Sweet Sleeper / Civic Stomper

This car is about an hour from my house. My sisters b/f used to have one and as I recall it had the same engine as the Miata. Just thought it might be cool to throw a greddy kit on it and some tires with a bit more meat on them and smoke the shit out of people with it. Is that the exactly same motor that is in the Miata? Seems like it is priced pretty fair for such low miles.

I believe the 1.6l in those cars was a SOHC, I had a 93 Protege 1.6 and it was SOHC, The 1.8's were DOHC.

I believe the model you're looking for is the 323 GTX, which I believe is factory turbo, as well as AWD.

otherwise, you've got to head north

If the manifold is the same it would still work. I have no idea if it is or not. A top mount turbo might hit the hood though.

If I remember the Mercury Capri turbo 1.6 DOHC is easily swapped with the 323 N/A SOHC. I have been out of the loop with those cars for a long time though.

Wow, the misinformation!

the 90-94 323 had a 1.6 SOHC boat anchor. AFAIK none of the manifolds from the DOHC one or the 1.8 motors work

The 90-94 protege had a 1.8 SOHC or a 1.8 DOHC (again the manifolds do't interchange)

In japan they had a 323 GTX and GTR which was an AWD 323 with a turbo 1.8 (bp). You can take the OEM turbo shit from these and bolt it onto the US BP or even a miata BP (although the exhaust manifolds face different ways).

The USDM 323 GTX was based on the older chassis and had a 1.6 DOHC turbo, most of the parts don't interchange.

If you bought that 323 you could buy an OEM turbo exhaust manifold and ECU and run a DOHC BP turbo from a 90-94 protege, 91-96 escort GT, escort LX-e, tracer LT-S, or maybe an early kia sephia. I'd use the mazda one because it has a main bearing support plate and IIRC the fuel lines are different.

Also the protege LX / excort GT/lx-e/lts 4 wheel discs and beefier suspension parts bolt into the 323.

The OEM GTX setup isn't good for very much power (175-220), to make a lot you need an SAFC and a bigger turbo. The 323 weighs in the low 2000# range and won't beat turbo civics very easily.

yeah, but from what I've seen you can stick a cage in the 323s and remove a lot of metal from them... I've seen a few set up for racing that were running under 1600 lbs.

Sleeper or not, that is one butt ugly little car.

I seriously doubt you can get a BG chassis 323 down that light

1900-2200 is realistic

I snagged one for $2500 with 60k miles... I thrashed it to hell and back and let it die a slow death... it was rust free too.

I am sorry but 323GTX and 4g63 AWD colts are my favor lightweight car.

BTW if you looking for a sleeper to f**k with people. Buy an older mirage and then get an evo 1-3 motor and drivetrain. If I remember correct its any 80-90% direct swap
