Sure, everything isn't linear, I get it. I could give two shits about the density of water, resistance, and your heterophobic wet dreams. I'm looking at price vs. reality. It just isn't worth it. Not even 1/8th of that price is worth a speed of 70mph.

$144k worth of engines to go 70mph while exposing my drugs to the elements is in one word, pointless. Not that I care to even halfway look into the subject, but surely there are 50 better alternatives to this.

Some quick googling turned up that a full size bass fishing boat with (1) 250hp will take you between 60-75mph.

Yeah I know, this isn't a bass boat. But why not transport drugs in style in something with sleeping quarters and a sealed off storage area. For, lets guess, $30-40k, a boat could be had to suit those needs that would do the same speed and if you didn't look like a drug running junkie, you could pass by law enforcement on the open water as if you were on a sunday cruise.

Well then shut the fuck up if you don't care about the subject. No one is pulling your chain.

70mph in that boat is HAULING ASS

I go out onto the assembly line and watch them build the FX SHO, HKS supercharged 1.8L engine in a WaveRunner (I work for Yamaha). I've also gotten to drive them, they are insanely powerful and fast. Definite adrenaline rush.

Hook a brother up with a ride :bigtu: Those are some bad ass machines. For $13k they better be.

I have one, and love it. It needs a little more boost though.

Ok, just because I can't leave the "only 70mph" thing alone...

It carries 4000 gallons of fuel and who knows how many tons of cargo. Plus if you forget water resistance, aerodynamics and the logistics of big speed in the open ocean carrying cargo, it's gearing dumb ass. ( In the case of boats gearing and prop angle) You could have a 1000 hp Miata but with stock gearing in the tranny and rear end you still top out at 140.

Those offshore racing boats with 3000hp, kevlar hulls and incredible aerodynamics, on smooth water will do 180mph. In chop it drops to 1/2 that. A 70mph rubber cargo boat is damn impressive.

You should seriously stfu...70mph in a bass boat on a smooth lake is not even close to open ocean. Your bass boat would make it 2min at 20mph than get eaten by a wave and sink or snap in half. I've been 30mph in a RHI offshore...I gouged my knee and another guy broke a finger...rough...like 8 seconds rough

Project84 03-04-2010 06:54 PM

Point I'm aiming for here is at the price you'd pay for just the motors on that boat, you could use a little more brains and come up with something (doesn't have to be a boat) much better.

Your little tidbit about the 1,000hp miata is senseless. If you can afford to build a 1,000hp miata, you could afford to modify it to exceed the 140mph limit you speak of. Why in the hell would a 1,000hp miata have stock gearing? It wouldn't.

EDIT: Here. 70mph isn't shit compared to THIS. And I feel the same way about the (one can only assume) price tag on it. I'd guess $600k? For $600k, I could go a lot faster than 114mph in something that'll carry just as much drugs if not more, and be much more versitile. Like a an aircraft.

That's all I'm pointing out here. $180k for the inflate-a-boat that'll do 70mph on water, is $180k not spent on an entire fleet of cargo vans that'll do 70mph on a legal interstate with no questions asked. How's that? Hell, for $180k you could buy a couple outdated tour busses or RV's and tint the windows and traffic drugs all while looking like a typical wealthy family on a nice vacation.

:2cents:

I've been out in the great lakes in chop that's 4-6' crest to trough at 50-60mph on my seadoo and it is the scariest thing I've ever done while also being the biggest rush ever.

I've done the same in my dad's boat where the wost you feel from the same conditions is like hitting a speed bump at 35mph in your car but no big deal.

That's a 2 seat pwc vs a 22' sport cuddy, that boat would be pretty decent, similar to a coast guard vessel.

I too want boost in my pwc but not the weight of the new machines, mine weighs ~450lbs dry.

I know this may sound dickish, but offshore designs run a little faster in water with some chop. But I know where you are coming from.

I have heard that there are smaller inflatables that will do some impressive speeds. Coast Guard and other law enforcement use them all the time to run down misbehaving boaters here in Florida.

I dont think it was ever a drug boat.
That was a media beat up.

Hydrive hydraulic steering manufactures used it to demonstrate the ability of their steering systems, and the strength of their ram to steer so many outboards.
It is certainly not a practical or sensible way to power an offshore, or inshore boat.

Fastest that I have been in a boat is 95 in a friend's Allison. He had his fishing prop on it for a tournament. When he has the race prop on it will do 114 GPS. He has a Merc Racing 280 hp motor on it. It's quick. It has tandem seating and a wierd little cockpit that really kills the wind. He drove the whole time smoking a big fat dog turd cigar and never lost an ash or his hat.

Another friend had a Champion with a 200 with "some mods" putting out 320. It ran about 85 which is pretty good for a tuna boat Champ.

Pretty cool video from the Jasper River Run in TN. I'd love to do it some time but my boat will only do about 60. Take a look at the Stroker around 2:25. He's running 105 GPS. He has since gone 121 after some additional motor and prop mods and solo in the boat.

Yeah, I'm a redneck and living up to my avatar.:giggle:
