Default Turbo Setup opinions

Ok. I need your opinions on this setup. I'm shooting for the 380-410whp level.
This will go into a '99 Miata.

I bought a '91 escort engine and am planing on building it with:
+ Wiseco (8.6:1 cr) pistons +.040,
+ Crower H-beam rods,
+ ACL Racing Bearings,
+ 10k miles Crankshaft,
+ all seals, gaskets new,
+ ARP Head studs,
+ ARP Main Cap Studs,
+ MS-I v3.0

After that I want to put together a turbo kit:
+ Precicion Turbo SC50 (4" Inlet/2.5" Outlet, .63 A/R, 69 or 76 trim Exhaust Side),
+ Precision Turbo 780cc injectors,
+ 21"x9"x3" I/C w/ 2.5" i/o,
+ 321SS equal length runner exhaust manifold,
+ SS 3" exhaust splitting into 2x2.5" (magnaflow mufflers: 3" in the place of the cat, 2.5" mufflers at the end),
+ Custom manifold (have to read more about it).

In winter 07/08 I'm planning on doing the Head and paint the car.:
+ 1mm over Intake and Exhaust valves,
+ Titanium retainers,
+ new springs.

Thanks

Sounds like a winner. Can't go wrong with a 50 trim.

Why not start with a mazda 2.0L (then stroke it to 2.2)? No replacement for displacement.

start with the 2.0 motor. Good luck finding a trans to hold that power.

I always wonder why people pay FM an additional $1400 to bring their 1.8 to 1995 cc, when they could just start with a 2.0 to begin with?

im going to mate a rx7 TII tranny to mine with an adaptor plate. With the light weight of the miata it shouldnt have too much problem holding 3-400hp. I'm not going to be draging it all day or anything. If that ends up breaking then ill look into adapting a t56 to fit.

Wish I had a budget like that. Sounds like you will be burnin' up some tires in no time.

I don't have a budget - it will cost whatever it will cost, I'll beearning the money as I go and buying parts when I have the money. For now I bought the engine, and a 10k crank! ! It'll take me like 8 weeks to buy the internals! and then another 10 weeks for the turbo stuff, maybe longer.

I have to third that notion. I know that you have already bough the engine, but seriously consider the FE3 for your power goals. Of course the 1.6 motors have been built to put out high 300's - low 400's in the past, but thats with high boost on a huge turbo, but honestly thats only fun in a straight line. 1.8 would get there a lil easier, but a 2.0 or 2.2 would make the car so much more enjoyable with the added low end torque and noticably quicker spool on the same turbo.

Well you already have the motor bought, but its not to late to reconsider. Even with the 1.8, your car will be a blast when you are finished. However, if it was me, i would have regretted not going FE3.

I have the 1.8 engine. I couldn't find an FE3 locally that's why I bought the 1.8.

I have seen a few of you talk about the FE3, is this a direct bolt-up and such? Sorry for being ignorant, I just never saw any info about it.

From what I've heard from m2cupcar you have to do minor fabrication.

I wrote what I'll have for engine management in the first that I'll be running MS-I v3.0 ( you could run the same on an FE3)

http://members.aol.com/solomiata/FE3.html

you can mount it up "easily" by fabbing plates to bolt the stock motor mounts to and swapping the front half of a b2200 tranny onto the miatas. Problem there is that the tranny still cant handle the kind of power that motor can put out under boost.
