I seriously would rock a kit like that on my CR250. That is fucking awesome.
EDIT 1: The only concern would be burning my leg on it because it is not isolated very well. EDIT 2: I would also be concerned with what happened to it when I fell. Is it durable? |
MP Fab is in Birmingham, about 2 hours from me. His work is stunningly nice.
Turbo WR250Xs are silly, though. Buy a YZ450F and put a plate and 17s on it, or put a Millenium big bore in a DRZ400SM. Or strip all the extraneous nonsense off a Versys (mine is an absolute ball). All of these options would be cheaper, faster, more reliable, and less trouble than a turbo WR-X. |

Dude, that bike is WINNING. +1 turbo on anything is awesome. not sure if it would be worth your trouble though.

Everyone running the same kit has had no complaints about heat, none that header wrap couldn't fix at least.
Plating anything that doesn't come plated is near impossible. I live in California. The next step up in displacement area for a stock supermoto (everyone around here has DRZ400's I want to be a little bit unique) is Husky and Ktm area which is big bucks. |

1.) You can get an ~05 525SMR for under $4k all day. KTMs aren't that high.
2.) You can usually get Garrett GT12s and GT15Vs on ebay from FSAE teams for really cheap. Garrett gives a free one to any team who asks every year. |

Ive ridden 250 two's and have had a few 4's. I ride a YZ450F and love it. We also have a YZ125 with mods for bottom end and its just so flickable but on a long grungy rocky mountain climb it starts to lag. I just put a Rekluse on my 450 and its amazing. I purposely stop and try to go again on hills just because I can with no drama. Haven't had it out to the mountains yet but soon soon..... Motocross bikes are my favorite motorsport right now (and last 10 years)as well. No rules, unlimited scenery, and with a 450 always "all of it" power. |

I ride a super clean 99' Honda cr250. It is incredibly fast but I have yet to fully setup the suspension for trail as opposed to track. It is scary in 4th wide open in sand. I can toss it around very easily because it is light but it just is not very confidence inspiring with how squirrely it can be sometimes. As I said when I get on my brother's 4 stroke and he rides my bike he cannot keep up because I have learned to ride fast on the trails on an improper set up so when I switch to his I can just blow him away. I've thought long and hard about trying to trade for 4 stroke cr250. Not sure just yet if I want to because I actually like the 2 stroke motor a lot. |

I have been out of the game for a few years now, miss it terribly sometimes.
I had a YZ450. I owned Jason Thomas's Pro AMA supercross bike that he retired, a 2000 YZ250. I picked it up soon after it's retirement. I broke 2 collar bones and almost cut my finger off with that bike, among other incidents. All in one year. Good times. Funny thing is that when I got the new 450, I rarely crashed. I think that the 250's chassis was worn enough that it was too loose handling wise. I would say that the 450 was as fast as that worked over 250 if not faster. Before I am too old, I would like to own a KTM 525. |

And that turbo Buell... EricZ's bike. Watched an on-bike vid of it the other day, it's nasty. Hearing it made me miss my Buell soooo bad! Don't know if you know this, but Erik Buell was actually building a turbocharged Buell for production. The XB was originally conceived to be a turbocharged bike, and they got pretty far into development when Harley pulled the plug. '03-'05 XBs have a vertical hole in the left side frame -- that was originally meant for a boost tube as used on EricZ's bike. Erik had the bikes putting out 150 whp and 120 wtq with factory-level ridability. If he had built that bike... If only Harley had let him build that damn bike. Assholes. I don't swear often but when I do it's likely in some way related to Harley-Davidson and their asshattery. /threadjack |

This is why the ECM already has unused inputs and can be adapted to using a map sensor so easily. Also the hole in the frame, mines an 04 chassis so it has the hole for the charge pipe to hide in. This is all part of why i really want to turbo mine one day. Turbo bikes are fascinating. |
Only local motorcycle tuner with a dyno said he's not familiar with turbo bikes at all. What do I tell him to look/do differently than tuning a NA bike?

Uhh, watch out for boost? LOL, seriously though timing needs to be retarded more than a na bike among other things. Be careful with that tuner, maybe take it somewhere that can tune it properly.

Most of that is him snatching on the bars as it comes into boost in 2nd and 3rd. It's not as violent as he makes it look.
It is still significantly faster than stock. What are you using for tuning? A Power Commander? Do they even sell a Bazzaz for WR-Xs? For the record, I DO think this is cool and applaud your ability to say Eff It and buy the turbo parts. I'm way too analytical to just drop coin on a kit like that on a whim, lol. |

Came back and let it cool down for 2 hours, went to check exhaust bolts and turbo bolts and I snapped exhaust stud off in the head. Sad face. It will have to wait longer for boost now. I have to tear everything off tomorrow and hope I can extract the stud easy enough and find a replacement at a hardware store since all the bike shops are closed on Sunday. |

Check the HELP section in the auto parts store. I got metric carburetor studs that I used on my last DIY turbo build there.

Oh ok, I'll be sure to check it out once I get this damn stud out. Went through like 3 drill bits getting a hole in this fucker for the extractor bit to fit in(stud is made out of diamond or something) and the extractor bit snapped off flush with the end of the snapped stud at my first attempt to remove. Great... lol. Torch and vice-grips aren't cutting it either. Ideas? I have clearance issues, it's in a tight spot.

That is pretty much a worst case scenario. I think you will have to face the reality that you will have to pull off the head.

I'll just leave this here. I can't find a factory torque spec for the exhaust head studs. Anyone have any suggestions? They're M8x1.25 and about 2inches long roughly. I torqued them to 15ft/lbs I'm gonna run it through a couple heat cycles then re-torque. Brain, I made sure the picture quality was up to par for you. |

Depends if it is a 8.8 or 10.9 rated bolt.
I looked it up for you. An 8.8 rated M8-1.25 has a torque max of 18.75 ft lbs for Zinc plated and 17.25 ft lbs for not plated.
