Question concerning a high def TV. We have a basic Charter cable and get some high def channels in the package. My dad has a Sony 55'' DLP tv that for some reason has issues with the audio on certain high def channels like ESPN HD. The audio will cut out for a second or two every five to ten seconds. Somehow he deals with it, but I wouldn't be able to watch that channel at all with it like that. Since another TV, a Samsung DLP has no issue with any channels, I assume its his TV and not the cable. Any idea what this could be? TV is about 3 years old and the bulb is about to take a dump for the first time. I don't suppose it would have anything to do with a bulb, surely.

 

Tuner performance has always been something that separated the good sets from the average ones, going back to the days when TVs only had one dial. Assuming that the Samsung and the Sony perform differently when connected to the same outlet using the same cable, then that's pretty much just the way things are.

Kinda surprised that Charter gives you HD in the clear w/o a set-top box. Never heard of that before.

 

So you are saying this is something he will just have to live with?

But yes, we get a few HD channels with no set top box. Only local HD channels and ESPN 1 and 2, MLB channel and a few others. On the Samsung they are crystal clear with no audio problems, but on his it is nearly unwatchable because of audio break up. Only get to hear every other word pretty much.

 

bulbs should last more than 3 yrs our hitachi lasted a good 10 before we had any trouble with it. Sounds like you got a shitty set man. Audio droping out etc points to the care with wich it was made.

 

It depends on how much you use it. It's already well over the bulbs rated hour life. It's top of the line Sony DLP from its time, which was probably in '06 or early '07. Build quility shouldn't be an issue. Again, I don't understand why it is only one those 2 or 3 HD channels.

 

i gues but like i said our 62 inch lasted and lasted until the magic focus went out and then the red bulb still havent brought our selfs to be able to throw it away 3yrs later, lol top of the line or not if there is a loose solder connection or something not plated 100% right then it will and can screw up.
