Ugly ass Platy-fish

Right outside a restaurant our host in Shenzhen, China we were taken to dinner to, was a fish tank with some fish with mouths that looked like a platypus.

Paddle Fish.
It is related to sturgeon, and is prized for its fish eggs. They exist here in the US, and there is supposed to be a species from China. Some think the Chinese species is extinct. The American species is making a comeback because of better fishery management. |
It's not extinct, I could go eat one if I wanted to!

we have paddle fish here in south dakota in the river. you can apply for tags to catch them.

Sturgeon eggs are what caviar is made from. I wonder if the "paddle fish" eggs are more valuable though. |
