Default USPS flat rate small box = $5 shipping

In case you didn't know- the USPS now has a small flat rate box with a flat $5 shipping fee. I know I've shipped my share of stuff in the larger $10 box that would fit in this box.

The US Post Office is coming out with a new Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box that will have the same rate as the Flat Rate Envelope on January 18, 2009. The dimensions are 8 5/8″ x 5 3/8″ x 1 5/8″ which is perfect for small items about the size of a video tape. Here is the best part—It is only $4.95 retail regardless of weight or destination!

* No residential extra fee
* No fuel surcharge
* No Delivery Area Surcharge
* No Extended Delivery Area Surcharge

You can send this box anywhere within the United States for this one flat fee.

And, if you process your label online or use PC Postage, your cost is only $4.80 and you get Delivery Confirmation for free. That is a savings of $.80 or 16%.

Did I mention that the box was free? Customers can begin to order it at usps.com around January 10 in packs of 10 and 25, up to a maximum of 200.

Thanks for the heads up. Will be using today to ship back ChuckyZ's injectorzzz. I need to pick up a pack of these boxes at lunch. I use UPS for almost everything as our work UPS discount is 67% and is about the same $$$ but his dad asked for USPS.

I'm a U$P$ convert. No big work discount here and I can now do "clickNship" online and drop into the parcel box at the PO on off hours or have the man take it from the house.

They had that box about 4 years ago then stopped offering it. Nothing new, I still want to know why they discontinued it initially.

It was never discontinued, just stopped carrying it in the store. You can go on usps.com and order free boxes shipped to your door. Pick them up there.

They make great packing material for stuffing boxes to ship UPS.

Our local UPS office will not take any thing packaged in a Fed-Ex or USPS box

Yea I was gonna say I've been getting these flat rate boxes for years now off USPS.com. I order everything offline and make my own labels. **** going to the post office.

Back in the day before they started branding them on the inside I used to assemble them inside out and send with UPS.
