A few years ago I bought what has become a new source of fun. 17' Gause flats boat. Plan on taking it out this weekend.

Share your boat, jet ski, or whatever you float.

I fixed your post for you.

A great tip of advice I was given a long time ago from a VP. If it fly's, float's, or fuck's. Rent it.

They can be just a tad high maintenance. ;)

Renting a boat sucks. They never have what you need for your recreation habits.

Erat 02-20-2017 05:19 PM

Well, i think by default i have to post post here.

'86 Mastercraft. All original. First year for all fiber boat. One owner. 351c 19', does about 41 on glass with a fresh wax.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a33ef2a574.jpg

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...24752b259e.jpg

I have also very recently purchased this. Let it be known that it does NOT look like this right now. Engine was dropped off at the builder a few weeks ago. Hopefully i can get my first seat time on at the end of April.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...6e9970de27.jpg

Stock 305 (5l class). Open cockpit (but safety cockpit). I'm unsure of year, mid 90s maybe. All wooden (it can be competitive in a wood class, but gets smoked by the fiber boats). Should take me over 100mph.

miata2fast 02-20-2017 05:25 PM

I hear the cornering ability of those race boats is incredible.

No boats for me thank you. I gladly pay operating expenses for a weekend in a friends moneyhole, boat, and then drive home in a station wagon.

My water ride

It goes underwater too.

I've always wanted to try one of those.

Erat 03-25-2017 07:09 AM

Me too.

sixshooter 03-25-2017 08:26 AM

Standups are a lot of fun but are a hell of a lot more work all the time, too. Tire you cruising in a straight line in a way the sit down units don't. I want to ride a Kawasaki SX650 again. Lots of power and not too much weight.

thejeans 04-13-2017 12:15 PM

miata2fast, that looks like it would make fishing down in florida quite enjoyable, nice looking boat!

erat, both boats look awesome!

its not nearly as cool as whats been posted but its my "whatever floats"... its 11.5' feelfree lure kayak. I use it a lot for fishing on the the Allegheny, Ohio and Monongahela Rivers and several of lakes within an hour or so around Pittsburgh.
i'd like to get a boat down the road but i don't have the room to store it and a trailer at my current house so the kayak does just fine for the time being.

We do do some kayaking in the mangroves in coastal west Florida from time to time.

thats the one cool thing about this area in PA, most of the lakes are damned up streams and basically flooded a valley which makes most of them scenic around here, some stretches of the rivers are just as scenic working through the mountains, then around downtown Pittsburgh is cool cause your in the middle of a city with a new perspective from the water.

Is that at Ohio? Coworker was planning on going with is 2.5l stocker but didn't due to the weather, which ended up being nice anyway.

I'm currently boatless as of 2 weeks ago. Sold my darling 98 SPX because I just wasn't using it anymore.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1493645172

We also had a 97 challenger 1800 which we sold when we had our first kid, looking to get something similar eventually. Perfect boat for this area (lots of shallow coves), fits in a garage, could be towed by a subaru. Did low 50s if all the carbs worked.

Yup. Test and tune in Dayton. He certainly missed out, weather turned out to be beautiful.

TurboTim 05-01-2017 11:16 AM

Yeah he was a little bummed this morning when I asked, since last week was a cram to get it ready. 18 hour drive there and back for questionable weather though, I don't blame him.

It's the ugly duckling for sure right now. I still need to do a little work on the deck, get some paint on it. And i'll probably wrap it.
Stickers are coming off, since nobody is paying me. The only advertisement that will probably be on there is the shop that is wrapping it.

It's a 5l boat so im limited by class rules. Im currently running a 305. Limited to a 2 barrel carburetor as well. Pretty much all stock. "pretty much"

It's an interesting setup.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...01d0451630.jpg
Prop is dirrect drive from the front using a double chain on those sprockets. Nevermind the alignment we were still working at that.
Absolutely no accessories. Lol

Erat 05-19-2017 10:03 PM

If anyone is in or around New Martinsville West Virginia fathers day weekend, i'll be there running in a vintage race.
We could use people to help crew too. lol

I painted the boat... But it's getting a full wrap, as soon as i decide on a design. I'm having second thoughts on it, which isn't helping.

He's 2.5 mod or stock, I can't remember? I can also run with the A class (2.5 mod) boats. Was he not at NJ this weekend? That black boat that was running next to him in the second video is fast, lotta money in it.

You can take the driver's class. 10 laps. It's $400 though, which is pretty steep for just a joy ride.

TurboTim 06-20-2017 10:26 AM

it's the stock 2.5l pinto motor class. Since we are in NJ I assume he's at the local races. He does have a race this weekend that he needed a gauge mount made for, I thought he said it was in Canada though. :dunno:

That is nuts for a 17ft boat, and SOLO!

longest sail i did was sail from Port Canaveral, FL to St Augustine FL. took 36 hours. me and a buddy. i was exhausted afterwards due to lack of sleep, as one has to stand watch, and you cant really sleep well more than 2-3 hours at a time.
I cant imagine 15 days with broken up sleep and possibly bad weather.

and this is 2 people on a comfy 32ft sailboat that can sleep 6, with autopilot, kitchen, fridge, couches, bed, etc...
