Default Any one good with gear ratios?

The trans im picking up for the PGT this weekend has shorter gearing.

Current:
1 - 3.307
2 - 1.833
3 - 1.233
4 - 0.914
5 - 0.717
R - 3.166
FD - 4.105

New trans:
1 - 3.307
2 - 1.833
3 - 1.310
4 - 1.030
5 - 0.795
R - 3.166
FD - 4.388

The final drive is shorter, so all gears would be shorter, and then 3, 4, and 5, are shorter by themselves ontop of that. Would this be a big difference? The tranny is cheap, and supposedly isn't broken, plus its local.. I just don't want to be winding out at highway speeds.

This is for my Probe, apparently Ford forgot to put the rear end in it :(

The FD ratio on the transaxle would be the equivalent to our rear end ratios.. If I payed attention enough during that gear ratio lecture.

Thanks for the link! Whats "Fudge" though?

According to that it would raise engine speed at cruise 1000rpm'ish..

Yeah, those shorter 4th and 5th gears coupled with the much shorter final drive are gonna hurt on the highway. In addition, the lower gears are roughly the same, so there's little effect in 1st and 2nd...seems like the worst of both worlds, depending on goals.

Not sure about the fudge factor, but he must've felt it was needed in certain circumstances.
