what is the most fuel efficient rwd sedan?

non-diesel, w/ 4 doors. i can't think of one.

96/97 e36 318i?
20/29 city/highway?

was there another bimmer that's as gutless as this POS?

mazda/nissan 03-04-2008 02:30 PM

the 325i's gas mileage isn't bad is it?

m2cupcar 03-04-2008 02:38 PM

My IS300 "would" get 20 in the city. Are we talking manual trans?

miataspeed1point6 03-04-2008 03:48 PM

How old? Toyota Cressida?

y8s 03-04-2008 03:57 PM

Smart Forfour hybrid. 61mpg avg. but it's out of production... so how about the regular Smart Fortwo. 40mpg.

Mach929 03-04-2008 07:35 PM

too bad there's not enough rwd sedans out there, there always high dollar luxury cars but bmw is probably the only ones you'll find with a manual gearbox

elesjuan 03-04-2008 08:27 PM

Uh, you mean like *new* sedans? I don't think there is a fuel efficent new production sedan..

TonyC 03-05-2008 04:44 PM

new, used, doesn't matter. cressidas were great when i drove one, but that straight6 was nowhere near fuel efficient.

reading this thread makes me depressed. basically the answer is: you're SOL.

y8s 03-05-2008 05:07 PM

noodle 03-05-2008 11:23 PM

Hey, the "Smart" car is a good idea! Its called population control... See, all these yuppie ------s get their little smart cars, then the rest of the yuppie ------s in their H2's end up running into the little death traps because they're too busy on their cell phone while drinking coffee, reading the paper, and shaving...

wrong here. the smart car has an extremely safe cabin. mb did a test and ran an e-class into it head on at 70mph, cabin was intact. It's actually pretty cool that they designed it to mimic the shape and structure of a human skull.

i'm sure a miata is just as likely to end up flat...

Prospero 03-06-2008 05:29 PM

99 BMW 318is, manual... Had one for years and got 30+ MPG all day long...

Not bad of a car either...

Another decent car was the Volvo 240 2-door with turbo and manual. Oddly was good on gas too.

Cheers,
Prospero

Datsun 510 or Mazda 626?

MX5-4me 03-06-2008 08:13 PM

Beleted !!!

nester 03-06-2008 09:58 PM

depending on the year of the 626, i know some of them were FWD. We had one we used as a battling ram.. best/worst $100 ever spent.

cressida was low 20's at best. we had one from 86 to 99.. great car.

We had one as a family car growing up. Let me just say that Automatic + Torque + Minnesota Snow = Suck. Even slight inclines were terrible. Beyond that, very nice car.

nester 03-06-2008 10:57 PM

Yeah, it wasn't that great in the snow, unless you were trying to have fun, as opposed to trying to get somewhere. ;)

it's the late 70's early 80's model that i was thinking of.. I think that was the only RWD.

driftingf3s 03-07-2008 03:08 PM

i don't think rwd sedan and fuel efficient really go together. unless you're willing to pay for a high dollar sedan (bmw).

Pretty much dude, in the name of safety and luxury no rear drive sedan made it out unscathed. If I remember my stats correctly there's really not a rear drive sedan out there that weighs much less than 3200lbs before you sit your ass or put gas in it. That alone is enough to eat a few miles per gallon. Toyota/Lexus is supposed to start offering every car in it's range as a hybrid, so you may want to look into the new IS when the hybrid comes out.

rotaryjunky 03-07-2008 09:23 PM

AE86. I have a bunch of them. I bought them when they were cheap as hell, before demand went crazy. Oh no, wait a minute, I blew the money on chicks and beer. And my Boss offered to sell me his ($1500) a million years ago and I didn't cause I wanted an rx7. Oops.
