What other cars respond well to turbo?

If you're set on BMW what about a 2002? They had a turbo in their family so you could claim some historical credibility even if it was never available in the US. A 73 or 74 would be smog exempt here, too.
I may do a turbo BP swap into one some day. I really like the look of the 2002 and I'd really like to have an exempt vehicle to play with.
