What'd you get for Christmas?

Yes, I know Christmas isn't till Saturday. But my family celebrated this past Sunday due to some scheduling conflicts, so I'll kick things off. I received:

Skil circular saw
Woodford Reserve bourbon w/ 2 tumblers
All-natural beef jerkey
Boxers/socks/undershirts
Cologne (wife picked how she wants me to smell :makeout: )
Lego-Man keychain flashlight (press his tummy and his feet light up)
And a check from my parents big enough to cover the purchase of the 12 GA pump shotgun I've been wanting.

It's going to be a piss poor Christmas for me. I am broke with a waiting line of doctor bills, and another appointment Monday after Christmas, my mom lost her job in the middle of the year and is still not back in a stable job, my dad is broke, and I am single and don't do gift exchanging with friends... So far, though my dad is broke, he got me an HP Photosmart D110. I've needed a printer anyway, and this one does decent 4x6 prints, scans, copies and has wireless/e-mail receiving capabilities. Pretty decent little machine. I hope my mom doesn't try to be a good mom and get me anything. I'll probably buy a little trinket or two for each of my parents and that's it. All I can afford.

m2cupcar 12-20-2010 08:26 PM

12 ton shop press, 75" transmission jack

Stealth97 12-20-2010 08:31 PM

Havent gotten anything yet, but I gave a bunch of gifts to an unfortunate kid up the street who otherwise would not have had anything, made me feel better than anything I could have gotten.

EDIT: My wife got a badass german meat carving knife, about 10" long. I act right now.

RotorNutFD3S 12-20-2010 08:37 PM

So far, a $25 Walmart gift card from work, a bottle of Three Olives vodka, and I got myself an AR-15. I won't get anything else until Saturday.

99nb 12-20-2010 08:40 PM

I want a hard top but need to sale stuff first.

neogenesis2004 12-20-2010 08:46 PM

I don't expect to get anything other than some candy in my stocking when I visit my mom's house christmas evening for dinner. I got my mom a canon point and shoot camera, my brother a new ipod touch, and his gf a crock pot. Normally wouldn't give anything to non-family, but they have been going out for like 6 years and they live with me. So it feels weird not to get something. Was only $20 from newegg anyway.

240_to_miata 12-20-2010 08:54 PM

low budget for my parents this yr. guess thats what happens after you move out.

-new carpet for the miata
- maybe a new jack and /or tap & die set

m2cupcar 12-20-2010 08:59 PM

I don't feel so weird buying a coffee grinder from newegg now. :giggle:

FRT_Fun 12-20-2010 09:59 PM

My siblings and I decided not to get each other anything this year and to spend the extra money on things for the mother. I'm fairly certain my mom got me a gift card, which works out good.

fooger03 12-20-2010 10:14 PM

1.5L bottle of premixed kahlua mudslide, just add ice

rleete 12-21-2010 06:21 AM

I bought myself a pair of Harbor Freight metal cutting bandsaws (gonna sell one), and a used Jet lathe complete with Craftsman workbench and about a zillion pen/pencil/stopper kits. Enough projects to keep me busy for weeks, and all sorts of exotic woods to make them.

And the wife bought me the customary bottle of Bailey's.

UrbanSoot 12-21-2010 06:31 AM

So far I've received a lot of "complaints" from my clients about being too busy to do more projects. I'm certain that on Xmas day/night itself I will receive an e-mail alert about server going down and will have to drive to data center to fix it.

Doppelgänger 12-21-2010 08:13 AM

I really don't want anything for x-mas...really. I'm simple. I just want to pay my bills down....which would have been done by year's end if my turbo hadn't decided to shit itself the other week. Goal for the year has failed.

No shit. Remember when Newegg was for buying processors and RAM? I picked up a Panny razor from them last Xmas.

Braineack 12-21-2010 08:25 AM

Today is Dec 21st. Therefore I do not know what I got until the 25th like a real Christian celebrating baby Jesus. I did however buy and install a CDA-105 Alpine head unit in my wife's prelude already...she won't give me mine in return yet :(

neogenesis2004 12-21-2010 08:33 AM

Haha, I bet you got a great price on that razor though Frank. Plus you probably got it in 2 days with free 3 day shipping.

kotomile 12-21-2010 08:43 AM

I moved into a bigger room and got my toughbox, which I had stashed a coffeepot and 6 bags of my favorite Kona coffee inside of. Feels like Christmas..

Vashthestampede 12-21-2010 09:21 AM

I'm not sure what the gf got me, but there's a lot of good size boxes under the tree! :) lol

This year I got her a little of everything rather than just one or two big presents. I got her some jewelry (I had to measure her finger while she was sleeping to get her ring size lol), a IP camera so she can check up on the dogs from work, a rock tumbler with a book and accessories, some VS goodies (more for me ), and some other misc stuff.

She's into owls and every once and awhile I get her some owl related present, but this time I made her one. My mom used to have a plaster casting business and still has all the molds. I found an couple owl molds and made her the biggest one I found. Its 20"x14" and weighs 12lbs. I still have to paint one more base coat and then do all the detail work (beak, eyes, sealer). I engraved the back and added a little rebar wall hanger. I think she's going to love it! I hope! lol

My dad has been up and down with everything that's been going on with the company (thankfully things are halfway looking up) and needs to have an awesome Christmas. The family all pitched in and we got him a 1080p Optoma projector with a 120" motorized screen. I hope he shits on the spot when I drop the screen from the rafters on Christmas.

pusha 12-22-2010 02:18 AM

I'm sure I'll be getting what I get every year, a few polos, a pair of boat shoes, a couple DVDs and a funny t-shirt. My mom always gets me a funny t-shirt.

WonTon 12-22-2010 02:39 AM

One of my regulars came in to my work today and gave me a $50 playstation network card. I really wasnt exspecting that!

rmcelwee 12-22-2010 04:06 AM

We don't really do Xmas (maybe a few presents for some step nephews and nieces). I won't buy anything for my wife but she did get me a calendar with guitars on it. Four each month with a description of them and a bit of trivia.

Braineack 12-22-2010 08:23 AM

jew.

inferno94 12-22-2010 09:07 AM

I've been renovating the basement so the wife and I got a new couch and some other boring stuff, in a kick ass new den, instead of gifts for each other.

I did get my 3 cousins (4,6,7) foam swords, so xmas dinner should be entertaining.

Nope, just a frugal man who doesn't believe in wasting money on stupid shit. My mother in law (you does believe in wasting money on stupid shit) bought us both I "HEART" NY license plates a few years back. Why? This is the typical crap that people waste million$ on each year. I won't fall into that trap. In 1995 my wife didn't wrap my presents because there were so many of them. Instead she just covered them with blankets (several). That year we took an oath that we would never do that again and we haven't.

Dragunov SVD sniper rifle. The receiver looks similar to an AK-47 but was developed independently.

Reverant 12-22-2010 09:45 AM

I was going to say SVD but several details are different.

mgeoffriau 12-22-2010 09:47 AM

Yeah, I think it's probably a PSL variant. Basically a Dragunov built by the Romanians.

flier129 12-22-2010 10:05 AM

I think ill be getting a new mouse, grillin stuffs, some comfy shoes to do autox events in.

Got the fiancee those damn expensive ugg boots and other lil stuffs.

I think ill be playing with the ms3 come Jan so that's a decent present.

ScottFW 12-22-2010 11:03 AM

Not sure what the wife got me but she's usually pretty good at coming up with ideas. I told her she doesn't have to get me anything, because I recently bought myself an 01 motor that she knows about, as well as a transmission that she doesn't know about yet. We'll see how that goes over when the UPS truck arrives next week. :x:

She is getting some nice All-clad cookware and a few other little items that she wanted. I usually prefer to buy things with more practical utility than jewelry, but she incubated our kid for 9 months so this year she will be getting something sparkly from me & the daughter.

Its the Romanian PSL 54C there version of the Russian SVD. I receiver is an AK style but takes the Russian 7.62x54r round same as the svd. I wish i could have gotten a real SVD but there are 3k and more and rare in the USA only 100 got into the USA before they ban them.

Efini~FC3S 12-22-2010 01:09 PM

My wife got me a big ass OGIO gear bag for my racing gear. Tired of going to the track with three different crappy bags full of my gear.

I got my wife a pair of snow boots, some baby clothes and a book.

We're not quite on the McElwee plan but we try to keep it pretty small.

I never have liked the "obligation" of given or gettings things for christmas or at any time of the year because as you said it is mostlyh crap.

I to am frugal. During christmas people usually get a phone call or a text or a card. I dont expect them to give me any more than that. My family knows I like practical stuff too and usually they will give me a dress shirt or two and some clothing.

I get amazed at how much people spend on things, or just how "shopping crazied" society gets at large. I'd rather spend time with family than give them crap that will give them amusment for a while and get tossed, as well as drain my bank account.

My GF baked cookies and set them as gifts (she's a keeper)

did get the GF a coach bag but her bd is the day after christmas(2 for one) and we dont spend much throught the year. We are a park, outdoors, netflix kind of couple. And of course I got it for tremendous discount. (outlet + 2 different discounts. although I'm not telling her that)

RotorNutFD3S 12-23-2010 07:51 PM

My dad just gave me this since I love Star Trek (yes, I'm a nerd) and pizza:

Not sure what my parents got us since we haven't opened it yet...

Wife is getting me a big bin rack for the garage from Costco. She's getting a food processor she's been hinting at plus a new head unit for her car and other small goodies.

I'm getting this for myself:

Attachment 192030

All the parts to make my Travelall a 3/4 ton 4x4 (currently heavy 1/2 ton 2WD), plus a good driver qtr window.. all for $300, about what the qtr windows alone generally go for. Truck was parked in 1975, with ~25K on the drivetrain. I can probably make back what I'm paying for it selling off parts.

astroboy 12-23-2010 10:23 PM

Got myself: supertech pistons, 1000cc injectors, m-tuned rail, 99 head w/ 2 exhaust cams, flyinmiata cam gear, arp main's, some amphenols, 190 lph pump, shitload of gaskets, mazda water pump, new timing belt, and a new bumper. I tried to get m-tuned rods but the postal system decided I wasn't deserving.

Faeflora 12-24-2010 01:17 AM

I got my sears jack stolen out of the parking garage and am going to get a new baller harbor freight jack as a reward.

NA6C-Guy 12-24-2010 01:54 AM

I'm still at the D110 printer, but assume I will get some more stuff. Just ordered some stuff though. Only people I am buying for this year are my parents for putting up with my shit for the last ~25 years. Got my dad a pretty nice pair of Nikon binocs and my mom I will go pick up some girly stuff tomorrow. She loves candles and fragrant stuff, as well as maybe a comfy blanket. Sucks not having money until 2 days prior, and having to work fucked up hours. I'll just have enough money left to pay 2 of my doctor payments and go see the urologist Monday to see if he wants to ram a coat hanger and cotton ball up my pee hole or cut my back open to remove my stone for Christmas... :giggle: also likely have a wicked kidney/bladder infection. Maybe I won't get dead for Christmas. On top of that I got the flu 2 days ago, so I feel excellent. But the flu was expected, I have been sick EVERY Christmas for at least the last 10 years.

curly 12-25-2010 12:26 AM

Just opened a Kinect for xbox from my gf. We did Christmas on christmas eve morning since I'm about to jump in the shower and go to work all night. By the time I get back she'll be at her parents, and I'll have to change outta my scrubs and into some street clothes and join her. We'll see how well I do dealing with her family after being up all night.

My little cousins got me a nerf gun. So the first thing I have done is take it apart so that I can mod it to shoot further. Epic nerf gun battles will be happening very soon.
