She ended up getting me a couple small things and a pretty badass telescope instead. I had mentioned to her before that I always wanted one of my own, but would never buy one and never asked for one as a kid. She remembered and hooked me up. :) I keep telling her I'm a fucking scientist now and I'm going to find the next planet. lol

From my one brother and sister in law I got cash, and the other set got me a iTunes card and a marijuana desktop calendar. We usually focus on the kids because that's what Christmas is really about. Seeing that there's 6 of them between the ages of 9-15 its pretty loud and crazy. My dad was a little unsure about the projector and screen when he saw it. I only had it temporarily setup for him and it wasn't lined up and positioned right for the room, so I don't think he knew what to expect. Now that everything is mounted and hooked up my mom says he watches a blu-ray every night. I'm happy he has something to look forward to and enjoy now after working in the freezing cold all day.

Here's a daytime and nighttime shot of GT5 on the screen.

That looks great, info on said projector?

Optoma HD20 - http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-HD20-De...4257647&sr=8-1

Favi 120" screen - http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-16-120-In...257861&sr=1-14

1080p on a 10ft screen is fucking awesome! Twice I spent almost as much on 42" Panasonic plasma TVs and this things blows them away!

Definitely worth checking out if you have the space for the screen and the room is long enough for it to work.

Is it bright enough for everyday viewing IE sunlight through the windows, lights-on, etc?

Its super bright and in a normal room would probably be sufficient for everyday use. The room in the picture has a greenhouse connected on the right side of it, so it looks a bit more washed out in the picture than it should.

I'm really impressed with the quality of this unit. I did have a couple hiccups along the way getting it setup, but once everything was said and done I ended up staying and playing GT5 for a couple hours. lol

Excellent projector based on what I've read.

Have you tried measuring the input lag on that projector? The one thing I hate about most HD display devices is that they take time to process the image which results in a delay from when you push a button and when it is shown on the screen. I stick with Panasonic plasmas for this reason.

Yeah, all the reviews I read basically gave this one the "best in class" type praise. 5 years ago something like this would be $5k, and now you can get it for just a hair under $1000.

There doesn't seem to be any lag from what I've experienced thus far. The remote for the projector works spot on and same with the PS3.

The only issue I had with the projector itself was when I couldn't get it to sync to a specific source. It would cycle through HDMI 1, HDMI 2, VGA , etc, but never find anything. Then I would switch the HDMI cable from 1 to 2 or vice versa and it would work. I was beginning to think the projector had some issues but in the end I came to the conclusion that it was the cable itself.

Setting up the mount on the other hand was a GIGANTIC pain in the ass! :vash: I'm telling you I put together and took apart this fucking thing at least 3 times before it was right. I had to drill my own holes to line them up and cut one of the brackets shorter to make it fit. Its sturdy as hell, but the assembly of the thing was a total joke. Good thing it was only like $50 or so.

My dad worked for InFocus for a long time, we had plenty of projectors go in and out of the house during my high school years. Loved them. Just had to close the curtains during the day, not that big of a deal.

Vash, I had that same problem with an HDMI cable ($3 unit from Amazon) when I was switching back and forth with just the one cable between my xbox and cable box. The TV eventually stopped recognizing that anything was hooked up.

Funny you say that...because it's a Amazon cable.

I ordered them all new cables, a switch box, and some other odds and ends from monoprice yesterday. What cost $100 would have been $200-$300 anywhere else. I've never had an issue with my monoprice cables, so I have full faith that these ones will work well.
