Default The "What's In My Box?" Game

Ok you pack of uncouth sleuths, put on your thinking caps for a round of "What's In My Box?"

Your hints:

- It's going on my '99 Miata. I'm in the middle of swapping a 2004 MSM 6 speed drivetrain into the car, which started life as a total base model car with roll-up windows.

- It's not something you would see walking around the car. This includes if the hood was open.

- It's absolutely essential in a performance car.

- It has no wires going to or from it, nor fuel or water connections.

EDIT: Looked at box again and realized how small it was. I revise that to clutch.

Diff in a box!

I couldn't believe it fit in that box, but there it is. 2004 Miata Tochigi-Fuji LSD in a 6 speed-friendly 3.90 gear ratio with only 40k miles.

(My base-model roll-up window '99 had an open diff.)

Good guesses, although my ***** shift ***** are usually delivered in a cardboard tube, but then I'm not buying in quantity.. ;^)

How is a differential "not something you would see walking around the car"?

I thought the same thing. But I pulled up behind my '99 just now after I got home from work, and the muffler covers it.

Yeah, you're right... I should have been more specific.

"It's not something you would see walking around the car unless you're five inches tall, have a flashlight, and are standing in the space normally occupied by the PPF."

Fixed.

I'd have guessed 3.63 gears.

Really? The T-F is out of a regular old six speed car, not a MSM. I thought the '99 axles would fit. No?
