Default wheel bearing failures (protege)

On left is a timken and on the right is a duracrap. Both suffered the same failure, although the timken was driven on longer. Is this water intrusion or heat failure? Both are the outer races.

Looks to me like corrosion/pitting that goes south. Does the car sit for long periods? Driven short distances then parked all day?

Driven daily, highway speeds. We do live in the salt band. The race that is still seated (right) was installed in September. Havent looked but i would be surprised if it lasted 4k. The timken lasted 13 months. Yes that would be one month past warranty.
