Vash- 1. Terrorist Target 2. Waste Disposal I read an article once that stated Nuclear Facilities in the united states are equipped with Surface to Air Missile Batteries along with a 20mm automated mini-gun.. Something similar to the Raytheon Anti-Aircraft system on a Nimitz class Naval Carrier. Not really sure if thats true, but you have to admit an air attack in this day and age isn't even remotely out of the question. Nuclear fuel is the cleanest and most efficent energy production we have to date with limited impacts on the environment, but theres side effects. The Majority of a spent fuel rod has little to no use and is a very very dangerous item if exposed to a multi-cell organism. These items will remain radioactive at a dangerous level for thousands of years with little solution to dispose of them. Right now, the only facility we have for long-term storage (outside of the radiation pools at nuclear plants) is to transport them via INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS to Yuccan Mountain, Nevada where they'll be stored underground. This I'm a little less worried about however. The department of energy reports that over the last 30 years some 2700 shipments of nuclear waste has traveled 1.7 million miles without any problems.. They're transported in nearly indestructible "casks" which have been tested to literally survive a train wreck without puncture. Thats pretty incredible, but theres still that risk there. Personally I think this gas-electric hybrid crap is a fucking joke, and nothing more than an Ethanol similar bandaid to a bigger problem. Only time will tell. |

CNN or some other online "news" site had an article a few days back. It was all about how much people are hurting (their words) because of gas prices. There was a picture of some whiney bitch quoted in the article. And, in the background a new 40+ flat screen TV with a cable box visible.
Oh, you're hurting so much that you can still afford $30+ a month for cable and another grand for a new TV, but gas is hurting you? Tough shit, starve then. Hopefully you won't have the strength to breed, so we don't have to put up with more stupid whiney bitches. 12,000 miles a year at 20 MPG is 600 gallons of gas. If it rises another $2.50 a gallon, that's only 1500 bucks a year. If 1.5k is enough to break you, you're a dumb shit that needs to rethink your spending habits. |

There are lots of options: walk or bike, public transport, carpool, etc. It's easier to whine and hope you can get the gov't to hand you a check. All while having the latest toys to play with. Waaaa, waaa. |
I'm just glad that SUV owners and manufacturers are getting hit hard with this. It's about the only upside to gas being so expensive.
It sucks that it is driving the cost of everything else up though. Fuck, the prices on food are going up with the gas prices. This country might be OK on just the high gas prices, but the way it drives everything else up is what is going to kill us. Myabe if some dumb fucking moron didn't spend a trillion dollars on a pointless war, we wouldn't be companing about gas prices right now. But that fucking moron won't do a damn thing because he'll be out of office by years-end and couldn't care less if the country tanks right now. |
Also, due to how spread out this country is, mass transit is harder then you think. Sure it's easy in places like the UK and France.... but those COUNTRIES are the size of STATES here in the US. I do believe that companies should invest in figuring out how to make it work though. Hell, AMTRAK should get their ass in gear and take advantage of this situation and start making rail travel more convenient among other things.
Cities like Atlanta don't have any plans on relieving congestion. There were several projects that got shot down and now people are bitching that the highways are too small. |
i actually had a "nightmare" about 3 months ago where gas hit $5 and i was going crazy! Gas is more expensive than milk.

All I know is everyone around here is buying scooters. Gay scooters. Wouldn't be caught dead on one given I was raised by Harley-riding parents. I bought a bicycle myself, but I think motorcycles, scooters, and bikes are going to start flooding the rush hour.

Everyone needs to watch these two videos, two parts from Discovery Science Channel, they speak for themselves:

That's awesome
...other than the fact that when you get into a wreck instead of being riddled with shrapnel when the tanks explode thanks to carbon fiber tanks you'll simply be shot into orbit hopefully thru a breakaway roof. |
I almost had to end a motherfucker on a motorcycle today. All these fucking newbs on bicylces and scooters need to get fucking real. Going 25mph in a 40 on a motorcycle is not a good idea, and yes, the dude in the miata behind you is reasonable, but he is going to kill you for going 15mph under the limit.

First of all, there is a difference. It's called budgeting. Like car payments or a mortgage most people can't afford it all at once, but spread over time you can afford it. You may have to cut back on other things, but you're supposed to plan for that. Second, it isn't $1500 yet; gas has only risen about 85 cents, so it's more like 500 bucks. The TV was easily double that, and cable itself is likely that much each year. My beef wasn't that gas prices aren't hurting some poeple. I'm sure the poorest are feeing the crunch. It's that the ones with the fancy new car (payments), the ones with all the latest electronic gadgets and all the luxury are the ones bitching the loudest. Those that spend more than they can afford are crying and expecting someone else to pick up the tab. Re: the air car. How much efficiency are they getting vs. an electric? How much gas would an engine (say a small twin) take to pump up those tanks every day? Sounds to me like the "zero polution" engine is just forcing the problem onto the electric generating system. Maybe if you had wind or solar powering the compressor, but a coal plant is going to have to spew more polutants to increase capacity to power the compressors and charge all the electric batteries. |
