Who's coming with me?
Haven't you all really wanted to just move to New Zeland? I know I always have.
http://tinyurl.com/36bbhb Nice to know its supported. Seriously, though, all the cool stuff happens down there. v-8 motorcycles, jet-engine beer fridges, front wheel drive hydraulic dirt bikes, pulse jet go-karts.. All those things were NZ first. What's not to like? |
shit i might go, with the housing market, ecomony, and presidential election, things could go very very wrong for this country
|
My art teacher just moved there. He said it was a really nice place.
|
i know 2 families who've recently moved out of NZ, and another that just moved there last month.
consensus: pretty. boring. not pretty boring, but just pretty. and boring. |
I've spoken with a couple Aussies about immigration issues. They said NZ was a jumping off point for a lot of undesirables to get into Australia. Since both countries seem to maintaing good relations, I guess a NZ resident can get into Australia easily. I guess NZ has comparatively lax immigration laws/enforcement.
I've met quite a few NZers and Aussies, great people. |
Spent a few weeks there last summer. Pretty place, but I could see how people say it could get boring.
|
the land of the $80 FEdohc :bigtu:
|
I did meet some pretty fun guys from NZ when I was in southern Baja. :-) If they are serious about getting some technically inclined people there it could be fun. Anyway, it's boring here too, isn't it?
|
As a Kiwi now living in Aussie land I can't leave this post without adding my 2cents worth. I was born and spent my first 10 years living at the bottom tip of the South Island of NZ. It is a beautiful place to live. It is a very laid back, small town kind of place. Auckland and Wellington are the more populace places, but even they are fairly laid back.
Aussie land it about 4 hours flying time away. NZ and Aussie passport holders are able to move between countries and work in either NZ or Aussie land. You should all come down for a visit. I visited Seattle last year for John Hewitts (M.net member) annual October Fest event....had a great time with the local Miata club members. J |
don't forget all of the lord of the rings environment in your back yard!!!! cept for mordor, i don't think that was shot in nz :nono:
|
Firstly, F**K you Abe :-(
Secondly thats just the jealous side of me speaking because I'M STUCK IN ENGLAND :-) << Note location

consensus: pretty. boring. not pretty boring, but just pretty. and boring. on the other hand, if you value clean air, soft clean water, somewhere to take a swim all year round (if you can handle the cold during winter (wet, not frozen)) and want easy access to the coast and like rugged scenery. its nice. With regards emigration, it has to be said that the govt is hell bent on ruining the only really good thing we have as fast as it can : low population density. "Asians" are(were?) allowed very easy access and are causing housing prices to rise and traffic issues to swell. the asian issue is worst by far in auckland though, but it's spreading slowly and surely. i personally have a lot of friends from the far east, indonesia, china, taiwan, hongkong, korea and maybe more places, but i know for a fact that some of them are there to leach the cheap university education and bugger off to ozzy or back home. for an analogy its like dropping ozzy possums into the bush to compete with the flightless birds for food. the birds dont stand a chance. its that same laid back attitude (you could call it lazy, but "not driven" might be more accurate) that means that the uni lecture theatures are full of "imports" i dont joke, i used to play spot the white guy in class. in 300 seats, i might have been one of 5 or so. occasionally the lecturer would say something funny and i'd feel a bit of a twit being the ONLY one in the whole theatre laughing! "aaarh wot?" lol Seriously though, the worst thing about NZ is staring back at you from the top right corner of that page with 1/2 an inch of makeup on and heavily photoshopped. I hope she put the same picture on the emigrate from Asia page to scare some of them away :-) Fred. |
I should also add that if you arent enjoying america, you may be in the wrong part of it. its pretty big and lowly populated itself. i suspect that if put in the right part of the US i'd be a lot happier than i am here.
I should also add that ozzy is (despite how much both countries citizens will deny it) very much the same. Very similar friendly people, similar emigration issues of a different region, cough-worse-accents-cough, much warmer and a VERY LARGE amount drier (which is already causing serious issues for them). Other than that its a bit more busy/driven in the city and maybe slightly closer to the way home is going (ie, downhill towards being like everywhere else in the world) but its still got heaps and heaps of open space and i think even lower density than home (but lower percentage of inhabitable space too). |
Probably should have read the whole post before having a rant...

Naaaaaah, but we've got a sense of humour ;-)

Ok, so what sucks about it? How are the cops? Emissions laws? Are they pretty good about "well, you're not hurting anybody, so what's the big deal"? Health care? What's there for engineering types to do there?
Cold sucks. Mordor also sucks. Getting crowded I don't like, and I like to catch the occasional play - but really, very little of the time I'm bored is it for want of stuff to do. Now, what about miatas? You have to get right hand drive versions? Anything weird to motorcycles there, or planes? Definately I would go to play if I went. And I thought like (in aussie at least) dates are a bit more... casual. Is overtime like expected over there? What's better about aussie to make you leave? |

it sucks when your car gets taken to sth auckland to be stripped, but the only people i know of that have had that happen have done stupid things with their cars. and i see lots of "it got stolen" reports from other countries too. oh, and probably the worst thing, that ozone hole you bastards put above us ;-) you get burned pretty quick in summer. same in south east ozzy too. other countries you walk around with your shirt off all day. in nz, unless you are brown skinned, you try that, you will end up in hospital. probably other stuff, but i dunno what. How are the cops? eg, most of our cops DON'T carry a gun, there is an "armed defenders" squad that comes to sharp shoot you if you are a phyco. and a bomb squad too. they came for me once :-) i got away :-) (messing with fireworks in a shopping mall carpark too many evenings in a row) speed limits are 100kph max. you can get away with 105 - 120 depending on your luck etc. insurance is not compulsory, though i hear they are wanting to bring that in which would suck as i have lost my license once (bad luck, long story) and it'll be pricey for me. (but still WAY cheaper than here) Emissions laws? mods have to be "certed" which costs you about 500nz one off unless you wanna do more mods that need a recert.500nz ~= 350us in terms of modding cars, you are WAY WAY WAY better off in nz than oz. WAY. no comparison. at all. some states in oz wont let you have a BOV at all. plus our market is saturated in cheap jap cars (read jdm for you gay bastards that like that shit) so parts are typically pretty cheap (rb25de for 500 or so etc) my 3 fe3's cost on the average 250nz. one came with a car, the first two cost 80 together including other stuff (a diff, etc etc) ;-) Are they pretty good about "well, you're not hurting anybody, so what's the big deal"? Health care? What's there for engineering types to do there? Cold sucks. Mordor also sucks. You have to get right hand drive versions? https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7191 see www.trademe.co.nz to see what people want for them and other bits and pieces. Anything weird to motorcycles there, or planes? heres me playing on one in my ex-skyline with a girl from work giggling in the passenger side : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZbpq2a0-RM same road in the ute in the rain : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxDAjVh47Ao Definately I would go to play if I went. shit i do : skiing/boarding fishing/boating cars/modding/driving/track days swimming/climbing/tramping driving a lot more more car modding etc. name your hobbies, i'll see if they are readily available in jafa land (just another fucking aucklander) And I thought like (in aussie at least) dates are a bit more... casual. Is overtime like expected over there? What's better about aussie to make you leave? if you were asking why i left, only temporarily to follow my good woman to the UK for a while. i'll be back (asap) for more fast fe3 vids! hows that? i'm keen to see more yanks displacing asians :-) plus, in about a year when i get back, you can sample the goodness that is my ~13.0 ute (untested, but must be close) spot ya |
If they need any Physical Security Specialists I would be over there in a heartbeat.
|
you mean like a high tech body guard?
check the jobs available. i have no idea. i'd be over there in 0.000001 of a heart beat if i had a choice that didnt involve being single/finding a new woman to help me work on the ute and let me race her car round tracks :-) not so easy a thing to do i suspect. |
Hey Abe; or could come down here and stay only 2 hours away from Miami by plane :giggle:
