(Right now I mostly fill up a USB stick with music I like and listen to that while driving)

BTW I am a paying subscriber to both Pandora and Grooveshark (which predates Spotify).

NPR 50% of the time, Pandora 40% of the time, Spotify Radio 10% of the time (via aux in and my iPhone). That's for my daily commute of about 15 minutes each way in the morning and evening, Monday - Friday.

On a road trip or weekend driving, it's more like 80% Pandora, 20% Spotify Radio. I haven't subscribed to Spotify Premium in order to access the playlists I assembled on the desktop simply because I don't spend enough time in front of my personal desktop to assemble enough lists to not get bored with music.

Pandora radio is much better than Spotify radio. If I was in front of a desktop where I could spend more time building playlists, I would use Spotify more. They really have a robust catalog of music and I can almost always find whatever I am looking for - and I have some ecclectic musical tastes (with playlist titles like Nerd Rap, Exotica Lounge, Beach Music and the Justified Mix).

Pandora 100% of the time in my wifes car and Sirius 100% of the time in my car. However, I am starting to find that even Sirius is beginning to replay a lot of the same stuff on a given channel and I like my music to vary. This is why I like quick mix on Pandora and upset sirius cannot do the same.

I was sad when my headphone jack on my phone died, as I quite liked streaming my google music songs that would not fit on my microsd card.

But now I have a $20 mp3 player loaded up with 4 gigs of Umphrey's McGee, which will hopefully last me until I get a new phone. Sidenote: even though they are a liberal hippy jam band, you might like there newer stuff which is more like that crazy club music all the kids are listening too.

"unce-unce-unce" club music or "WUB!WUB!WUB!" club music?

Also, we have satellite in my wife's car. She does a lot of driving and spends virtually zero time in front of a computer for personal use.

I could never, ever rely on an internet-streaming service for music in the car because I drive through places that don't even have consistent wireless service, let alone 3G/4G.

There are 2 different kinds?

You guys have stereos in your car? I'm shocked...

Actually, in the jeep I just wired an aux-in inline with the CD player. And then I listen to bunch of EDM podcasts that download on my phone automatically....

Google Listen or any Ipod FTW.

Braineack 09-10-2012 03:18 PM

I have a subwoofer and components in mine...

Bonobo and Caribou are okay, Ilike a little more "happiness" in music so I pick-and-choose among those two.

Other shit I think you gays should check out if you like this genre (specific songs and bands):
De Phazz
Deadbeats
Elak - Remember Me
Jaffa (an all-time favorite) Do it again, Elevator, Star 67, Legz, Fila's Evelvator Remix on Cassagrande Lounge
Count Basic
Leggo Beast - Petite (all their shit is awesome)
Pork 100 (album)

I can keep going. I have a massive collection of this stuff.

In my experience, its due to the facts that most people:
  1. lack the technological sophistication to access free internet music sources
  2. can't afford smartphone/data plan to stream audio from said sources
  3. don't/can't buy music online
  4. don't buy music CDs at the store
  5. don't know how to pirate music
  6. feel they need to listen to Top40 HIP-HOP to stay in touch with their peer group.

The other issue is radio conglomerates like CLEAR CHANNEL buying up stations and forcing the Hip-hop/Country down our throats. Out where I live, there are no more independent stations. I literally almost WEPT when I heard that ClearChannel purchased KPIG.

In short:

Pitlab77 09-10-2012 07:57 PM

31. Hate the music on the radio. Mostly listen to Sport talk, political talk, news on AM.

I'm just gotten into renting audio books from the public library via the internet and if I had a way to plug my ipod into the headunit I would listen to that.

phillyb 09-11-2012 12:45 PM

there was an awesome college station from wilkes university a while ago that only played metal and some really weird alt rock shit.
now it's mainly hip hop. not the shit you hear on the radio, but i liked it more before the switch.
now it's just a station that i used to listen to

I abhor FM radio, but have terribly inconsistent 4G on my commute, so it's totally worth the $10/ month to have Spotify Plus and playlists on my phone.
