A Nissan based engine in an MX-5, with standard ECU is easier to comply than a OEM engine with replacement/modified ECU. Yes you can get away without getting complied, but if you are caught you the car is taken off the road until compliance can be proven.

Any LSX series swap uses the stock LSX ECU and gets you 350+ to the wheels. And you can flash the stock ECU to pass pretty much anything that comes out of the OBDII port aside from proper tuning. I don't get where a Nissan based swap would gain you anything.

I think and I maybe wrong, what he is saying is that you can't do an ecu swap, the ecu must be an original ecu, but that still doesn't make full sence.

BTW can someone change the name as that is not a 2jz, its a 1jz.

I do remember when the guy first posted, he said that the motor fit in without cutting the stock subframe, now he never posted photos, but I do know the 1jz come in both mid and rear sumps. I know he said he was using the 1jz out of a supra which means rear sump.

If you search on M.net for 1jz you can find the few post the guy made, but he never posted anything after the first few photos. He did say he was not using a standard tranny but I believe a turbo 350.

Absolutely. In Maryland, you need to swap a car motor that is the same year or newer than the body it is going into. For OBDII, as long as it passes the port scan and a visual (for cats, which I've never seen them do here) it will pass emissions.

So my LS6 from an '01 'Vette is actually going to be controlled by an '04 GTO ECU/wiring harness in my '01 Miata.
