This final was the first professional soccer game I've watched for longer than 5 minutes. I considered myself a soccer fan before hand. Man, that stuff sucks. I don't think anything could be more boring. I think the overly dramatic falls is the worst part.
I was hoping the orange guys would win.

Actually, Spain played a really good game, up until the box. They seemed to forget they had teammates as soon as they were within sight of the goal, and no one pulled off a near-decent long shot. They owned the game in midfield though. Defense was good until they wore down and couldn't stop the orange guy's counter-attack.
Extra time was good, and the goal was very nice. Right before that Spain finally had what looked like their first real cross (on target, three guys up front and ready) and you could tell they were about to really attack. The Dutch had their opportunities, and failed to capitalize.
LOTS of yellow cards, and not enough reds. There was one Dutch challenge that merited a red and got a yellow, and a later one that merited a Dutch player's second yellow and wasn't carded at all. Lots of ugly play, diving, complaining...made for a very broken-play game. Not a whole lot of fluid flow, uninteresting. Had it not been for Spain's ability to maintain possession it would have been unwatchable.
Germany-Uruguay would have been a better final, and was an awesome game. They could have easily doubled that goal count had it not been raining. I had predicted Germany 4-2 (there was an easy header that was missed later in the game), and Spain 1-0, so was right on...makes me happy not in being right, but in how much I've learned about soccer since getting into it for the '06 WC and Houston Dynamo's first championship season. I can really enjoy the tactical aspect, and the speculation beforehand now.
CONGRATULATIONS SPAIN!!!
Well deserved win, and I enjoyed seeing them take it.
