Default Is it worth it? (1991 Miata)

The father of a guy I work with has a 1991 Miata that has been sitting for a few years. The price started at around $2000, but now he is asking only $1500. It's a red w/ hardtop (seems almost worth it just for that, as they are rare around here), I'm pretty sure it runs, but he has said it has a lot of small issues, not sure in detail exactly what. Apparently the interior is decently clean. Does the price of $1500 sound reasonable for what I think will essentially be a parts car? I think I could probably resale parts and make a little money off of it, if I feel like it. Or should I haggle him lower?

Do you have any pics? Do you have any interest in fixing it up?

It would be nice to see some of these cars get repaired and not parted out.

Hard tops sell for 800-100 over here in Nj.... even saw a few in crappy condition go for around 800. I would definitely ****** that because you could sell the hardtop separate and flip the car and make $1000 easy.... Or fix it up and keep it lol

Agreed. I paid 2200 for my 95 no hard top and that was far and away the best deal saw around. I am thrilled with it as a DD.

Something for 700 less thats probably got some minor issues and a hard top sounds like a steal.

Buy it, take the top, and resell it. As the owner of a 90, I wouldnt buy anything before a 94 again.

Seeing how he's local, you had better let me go inspect it for you before you decide to buy it... just to make sure it's a good deal... for you

.....no. I guess it's a no brainer then. I do want the HT, and it is already red, so it'll match. And the paint is probably as bad as mine, so condition wise, the paint will match in that way as well. I'm tempted to do a 1.6 dash swap as well. I like the shelf look of the 1.6 dash over the 1.8 dash. Then there are a few various trim pieces I need for the interior. Yeah, I'll do it, even though I wasn't planning on buying a car any time soon, for driving or parting, or in any way. I'll let you guys know how it pans out. If it's in decent shape, I may keep it in one piece and get it cleaned up and try to make a little profit by selling it as a whole driving car.
