So, wait... Are you complaining about ClubRoadster, or MiataTurbo, or both?

I'm torn here, because on the one hand you're saying things that I accept as axiomatic, while on the other, you're causing me to question your judgement vis-a-vis coming here and starting a whole thread just to say "I know that if I post pictures of my car on this forum that something bad will happen."

I don't really know you, so I don't want to pre-judge or come off as sounding too harsh, but if the problem is "Everywhere I go, no matter what I say, people make fun of me," then one should at least consider the possibility that "other people" are not necessarily the root cause of the dilemma*.

I mean, you could be totally correct. If your build thread consists mostly of stretched tires, a $99 "racing seat," an ill-fitting aftermarket bumper, a headlight conversion that make it look like you have a broken headlight motor, and an aftermarket shift knob shaped like anything other than a big, veiny cock, then whatever you think will happen probably will happen. Frankly, I'm way too lazy to go over to ClubRoadster and e-stalk you to find out. I'd much rather just change your avatar to a My Little Pony, and then have another glass of moderately priced whiskey.

On the other hand, it's entirely possible that you haven't done anything completely idiotic and are just thrashing about with the same sort of typical newbie mistakes that we all made at one point or another, and so long as you're not an asshat about it, you'll find a warm and receptive audience.

It sounds like we'll never know.

No no Joe, his car is definitely the epitome of retardation. You haven't mis-judged him there at all actually.

Matt's Drift Car Miata Build - ClubRoadster.net

I dont get it. Nobody here is going to give you shit for being 16 and having an old rusty Miata.
I would give you shit for wanting to be a drifter, but most of CRnet is driftards, so I have no idea why they would give you shit.
You shouldnt care what they think. The average IQ over there is probably 80.

If it takes you 20 years to finish a Miata you're doing something wrong.

It wont take 20 years. By this summer it should be done. :)

What I'm seeing here:

Matt has a Miata. He likes it and is excited, but does not have friends local that share his enthusiasm for the car so he does what most kids his age do these days, turn to TEH INTERNETZ!

He likes drifting, stance, and all the typical kiddie car fads, so his google image search leads him to Clubroadster.

Unbeknownst to Matt, he did not receive the warm welcome he expected. Even though 75% of the members there have the exact same car as the one he wants to build (SlammedonracelandsXXRgaragevarylipdildoshiftknobl ookatallthesestickers!) the more senior posters do not like the reputation and stigma that comes with it so they shit on him. Banned, new account, shit on, wash, rinse, repeat.

Matt then gets the recommendation to join MT as a joke, because we are so much more accepting of his goals and desires for the car. He gets notflamed due to the kinder, gentler way we are handling new members in the meet and greet, and he sticks around because he doesn't get thrashed, although a few eggplants were seen.

But he still wants to fit in at CR! Maybe if I post pictures they'll respect me!

No, Matt. They won't. Not unless you do something really amazing with you're Miata to prove everyone wrong.

Pretty close?

It's great that you're enthusiastic about your car. People have much more respect for a fast car with a fast driver than a fast looking car driven by someone with their head up their ass. If you decide to give up on the silly faddish "mods" and get serious about a great performing car, we'd be glad to have you.

Just quit whining like a 16 year old.

Well im going to have a performing car. It takes time, patience (which I dont have at all, especially painting a car) and money (which im overcoming because making 4$/hr is fine for me, it will just take longer). Replacing the window regulator for me was a must, also buying the coils from itskrees on here was on my list of to do for the car. Taking the dent out of the door is also. Here is what's left for what I want to do and make it my car.

-Fix the dent. (Probably this weekend).
-Paint the door, paint the fender, put back on the car.
-Fix the rust thats on the passenger floor.
-Put the coils on.
-Take off driver fender, fix that dent, paint it and back on the car.
-Get a steering wheel, going to look at this weekend from a
friend who has one with the hub and everything ready to go.
-Find a bucket to go in (maybe a replica) unless I find a good deal.
-Weld the diff.
-New Soft Top or a Hard Top (if im lucky)
-Put in the roll cage once I get it for xmas (painting gold)
-Paint the rest of the car .
-Fix ebrake also.

Then all of the maintence stuff and get it inspected.

That should all be done by the summer time or even earlier since its going fast now.

Its all about time and patience and money like I said. If I get used stuff, I have the chances of braking the car or smashing into the walls and stuff. Though seats shouldnt be an issue and if I can sell the stuff original parts I can make my money back also. So its almost a win win situation. Oh yeah I forgot. Seat time and learning how my car performs and reacts.

18psi 12-03-2013 10:34 AM

Performing?

You mean figure skating?

I suppose that, on top of being 16, with your dad not letting you drive the car until your 25...

Having a minimum of a 9 year long build thread = extremely thick skin necessary.

Yes. According to him previously, it's because the insurance company will not let him drive the can until age 25 because it's on a classic car policy for some reason.

And insurance companies don't like kids with permits driving "classics."

why would you put a shitty miata on a classic car insurance? I was the primary driver on our miata since 1998 since it was the cheapest car to insure a 16 year old...

That's a great question, and a question that becomes more pressing when you see this particular car.

I believe the answer has something to do with "The 16 year old isn't insured on anything because he doesn't have his license."

People here generally aspire to make cars "perform" better; make more power, go faster, handle better, stiffer, lighter, reliable, etc.

They generally do not like ricers, or amateur drifters, or madtyte jdm hellaflush stance.

People aren't generally going to hate on you for being poor, or young, or wanting to do something as frugally as possible. They're going to hate on you for doing dumb stuff that doesn't make the car function better.

Times have changed my man, and its cheaper and parents policy only allows 5 cars. They had a hard time getting my s10 on there. I dont wanna go over the insurance shit again lol. What insurance did you use?

Braineack 12-03-2013 11:24 AM

I've used state farm since day 1, still use them.

if you're having trouble insuring cars, you guys need to learn how to drive without getting tickets/accidents. Hell, most miatas are even worth insuring but for liabilty.

Can't say i've ever heard of a policy that restricts the amount of cars you're allowed to have.

When you know how insurance works, you know that it's in their best interest to insure as many cars as possible. This is how they make money.

Sounds like your parents view you as a gullible kid and it really works out for them in terms of giving an excuse as to why they won't allow you to drive "your" car.

Tmorgan 12-03-2013 11:40 AM

I'm the only person on a policy with 4 cars, I had to non op my old miata to switch. My old insurance company kemper didnt seem to have a limit I was up to 6 cars at one point. However when I switched to mercury they made me drop one their only reason being that they didnt trust that I would be the only one driving that many vehicles. I dont think this is the case in OP's situation.

concealer404 12-03-2013 11:42 AM

Doesn't matter if they trust it... if there's no official limit, then they can't limit you. Supply documentation and don't roll over next time.

I have 6 cars insured right now.

Joe started this thread off strong, but it quickly took a left turn.

3 of 10, would not read again.

sixshooter 12-03-2013 11:56 AM

Remove "weld the diff" from your to do list and you will gain brain points. It makes cars corner very poorly and can actually get you killed in the rain.

TalkingPie 12-03-2013 12:00 PM

My guess is that OP's family doesn't like the idea of insuring him as the primary driver on a car. At least up here, generally if you have, for example, three cars and three drivers in a household, the insurance companies will expect each driver to be primary driver on one of the cars. That costs more money than being added as an occasional driver onto a policy.

It's another problem that can be solved by finding a job that pays more than $4/hr. I have no idea why someone would agree to working for so much under minimum wage, unless they don't understand that an $8/hr job doesn't incur a 50% tax rate. That's before even considering things like what happens when you get injured at a job that's off the books.

We haven't gotten into the fact that someone who doesn't even have a lisence yet has no business worrying about building a car for performance. Do you know the phrase, "Learn to walk before you run?" Right now you're somewhere near the "sit up without drooling all over yourself" phase. Yeah, I know: at 16 you think you're hot shit on the street. I remember thinking I was going to be the next rally champion because I was on my learners, could get the car moving without stalling it, and survived getting the car sideways around some turns. I know now that I didn't know shit, and am lucky as fuck that I didn't hurt anyone or their property. Recklessness is not the same as skill.

TL;DR - The proper order of operations: Make money, get legal to drive, learn how to drive, build car, fuck bitches.

Braineack 12-03-2013 12:01 PM

Sorry but the proper order of operations: fuck bitches, do other things in spare time.

You're 16. Insurance isn't going to be cheap, and if you're making $4/hr, then a car shouldn't really be top priority.
