Yet Another Gun Thread
Cool.
Back to this:
I've been thinking about getting an AR. This will strictly be a toy for plinkin' and what not. I've done the homework on lowers and tried to price things out. I don't have a fear of a composite lower for how I intend to use this thing... so whaddya think about this guy:

Link fixed above... also big gunshow in New Orleans this weekend. I know I'm probably going to regret going, but I'm running low on beef jerky and I get in for $6 w/military ID.
Cool.

I have a friend that has a different brand polymer lower and upper that only weights 5 pounds with accessories, and he has abused his without anything breaking (yet).
This might get me to own another AR after I sold mine a long time ago... never been able to buy another one, but this offers one hell of a nice price to build a complete AR
In my research, they're compared to the PC lowers in that they're polymer, but supposedly have a different blend that makes them stronger. I've watched their torture videos and how they compare "strength" to forged pieces, and their testing methods while good for show, don't really prove anything other than showing the limits of their elasticity.
However, the more I read, the more I think one of these will be just fine for me. When the zombies come, my plastic AR will just have to last long enough to find the closest dead 400lb fatty so I can take his Colt.

Sucking it up at the USPSA event last night. Points count makes me sad.
I figure why not share and open up myself to some good ole MT ridicule.

no need for ridicule, I'd venture to say that 80% of the people who regularly read this thread have never shot anything beyond stationary targets from behind a red line
It's the MT way though
It is just rough watching a video and seeing all the things I did poorly.
Once I got off round count from the 2 steel plate misses, I lost my rhythm in a bad way. I had all alphas for those first targets... and then went downhill from there. Slow reloads... poor position on 2nd shot location... beyond that... not bad for second time ever doing moving/shooting... first time shooting steel... etc..

I don't know how shooting steel would be any different than shooting any number of traditional targets.
We made a "shoot house" at our spot the last time we were there. It was fun until we all switched to shotguns and blew everything apart.

I just bought one of those New Frontier Armory complete lowers... came to $94.95 after my 5% military discount. Now on the hunt for super-budget upper. Since there is no way the wife can know about this, looks like that 3.6 r&p I've been holding onto for the past 5 years might be for sale... cash only!
