13.523 1/4 mile....All motor

And that was the first pass of the night. That beats the Fuji Racing time of a 13.55 in the quarter mile.

But the night got better.

The next pass went a 13.485 at 99.06 mph

The next pass went a 13.389 at 99.70 mph

After that, it seemed to stay in the 13.40's. I started to mess with the jetting, and the mph went down, so I thought I would call it a night and regroup before I start to tackle the jetting. Sixshooter was there to witness the action. He took pics of 2 of the timeslips.

That is half of a second and 3.5 mph improvement from when I was running the 95 head and stock water pump. The best 60' time, was a 1.80 with consistant 1.81's.

Is that the fastest normally aspirated bp powered miata in the quarter mile? Who knows, this post may pull some out of the shadows, but I am cracking open the victory beer.:D

Bad. Ass.

I'm going to give you an unofficial congratulations.

miata2fast 04-01-2010 11:54 PM

Thank you Gospeed. It has been quite a journey so far. Next stop is in the 12's with a little work.

disturbedfan121 04-02-2010 12:10 AM

cardriverx 04-02-2010 12:51 AM

God damn your pullin the same times as me! But I have like 3 or 4 mph on you so your hooking a lot better than I am. Nice job.

thirdgen 04-02-2010 01:04 AM

I hate your guts, but seriously, those times kick ass hardcore.

Faeflora 04-02-2010 01:45 AM

Uhhhhh... damn

What tires and wheels are you running?

Full_Tilt_Boogie 04-02-2010 02:03 AM

nitrous? lol

Fireindc 04-02-2010 06:25 AM

NICE! Complete motor specs please? n20 or any power adders?

miata2fast 04-02-2010 08:52 AM

There are no power adders. Nitrous will come later.

The bottom end has JE 12:1 compression, total seal gapless rings, stock polished rods, and stock crank.

The power is in the cylinder head and induction. Ported 99 with Flyin Miata valve springs, 1mm over valves, shim under bucket lifters. I am running twin 45 DCOE Weber carbs with 40 mm chokes.

Camshaft is just a bit bigger than a stock 99. 214* at .050" lift, and max lift of .370".

Car has been on a rigourous diet, but the exterior and interior appears stock. I have not weighed it yet.

Tires are 22x8x15 Mickey Thompson slicks on the back, and 22x3.5x15 (maybe 22x4x15 can't remember) on the front. Wheels are 15x7 back, and 15x4 front from Bogart Racing.

One last thing. Last night, I was running pump gas. I will likely tune it with race gas eventually.

The flywheel is an aluminum Fidanza, the lightest one that they had at the time. The clutch is a Centerforce. Both were installed in like 1996. It sounds like a long time ago, but the car was rarely driven on the street. I stored it for a long time.

The rear end is a 4.44:1 with a welded carrier.

Faeflora 04-02-2010 09:35 AM

You are the ****** Emperor and I am awed.

How do you launch? Do you have enough power to spin the MTs at launch or do they just bite and go?

webby459 04-02-2010 09:46 AM

Wow. Do you have details on your lightness adding, I'm interested? This is probably 90% driver, I'm thinking.

miata2fast 04-02-2010 09:50 AM

I come out at about 6500 to 6700 rpm. Sometimes higher. If not, the tires bite to hard and the car bogs. It takes a little practice to get it right.

If the tires bite to hard, I will increase the tire preasure.

There are so many details, that it would take all day. Examples are like the motor mounts. I drilled holes in them. I trimed the alternator bracket and got rid of the tightening feature. There is no hand brake. The wiring harness had been gutted and shortened in any way possible. However all lights, gauges, etc. work. That was a project that took over a week. Remember, I have no ecu, so anything that was associated with it was eliminated. I removed the dash, and got rid of airbags. That is a lot of weight. It was all I could do to lift the dash out, but when I put it back, it was light as a feather.

Anything cosmetic was not touched. I wanted it to appear stock, and I still have stock seats. I did pull the passenger side to make the pass last night. It is such an easy thing to do, that it is worth doing for track nights.

I jacked up the car and got under it and just stared. Eventually I see things that I know I can live without. There are so many brackets and shit in the engine bay, that it is ridiculous. The car also started out as a base model, so it was pretty light to start with.

Go on a diet and hit the gym.

And drink Citrucell on Friday mornings.

Faeflora 04-02-2010 10:27 AM

How do you get off your clutch? Slip or sidestep it?

leatherface24 04-02-2010 10:58 AM

this thread is worthless without pics and vids!

Not quite sidesteping, but a quick release.
