TxMC 2011 round 2 @ msr-cresson results
Wow, what a great weekend! Weather was great other than a strong wind all day, 70* and partly cloudy. Unfortunately, due to the size of the field in TT, the unlimited class ran the full 3.1 mile course, while the street/modified class ran the 1.7 mi. track.
It would have been nice to compare last years lap times in unlimited, but the 3.1 course is SOOOO fun.
Frst session was very slippery for everyone, and especially slow for unlimited since hardly anyone had run the big track.
Second session everybody was starting to get a hang of the track, and times started dropping. Hustler was in the lead by a few tenths in unlimited.
It was session three where things started to get interesting though. Hustler dropped another second with a 2:34.0, but i managed to edge him out with a 2:33.2 sixace was a starting to pick it up with a 2:35 in session 3, and zx tex was trying to come to grip (pun intended) with his ls1 beast with a few spins and a traction limited 2:40 lap.
And in street class, nc eunos had a 1 sec. lead over nails (michael d.) in a tight battle of NC's. MSR-H winner Matt B. (never satisfied) was a second behind them, and my buddy Brian S. (fidgetk) was bringing up the rear, but doing great considering he was on falken all season's.
Last session of the day and the track seemed to have the most grip. It was rumored that since the 1.3 mi. section of the track was seldom used, it had alot of dust and ash buildup that hampered traction in the early sessions. I was going much faster in some sections but a drift at the uphill hairpin killed my speed on my 1 lap. A slight gas mis-calculation had my car cutting off on my second timed lap so i was unable to improve. Pretty stupid, but those 1.5 laps were really thrilling and i had no complaints. Hustler ran within a tenth of session 3 but was also unable to improve, although i think traffic may have played a part in that. Sixace dropped a big 1.5 sec. down to a 2:34.1, but the biggest news was zx tex. He figured something out because he dropped a whopping 5.5 seconds! Just a few tenths behind sixace.
The big upset (for me...lol) was jwags. He was able to beat everybody with a 2:32 lap in jeff_man's lightweight supercharged NB. Talk about a sneak attack, we didn't have a time for him all day, so he stayed under the radar till the end. congrats, john.
In street class, everyone ran faster. nc eunos kept the lead, but matt dropped 2 full seconds putting him in 2nd until nails beat him by .06 hundreths taking over the 2 spot. My buddy fidgetk dropped a second in his final session putting down a 1:34 lap.
Almost forgot about last event winner Carter W. (doghouse) as he was busy running his first spec race. He was our sole modified class entry running a best lap in the 1:29 range iirc.
All in all it was great time. Nice to see someone new to the challenge come out to play (nails - michael donahoe) sorry if i mis-spelled your name. lol and i can't wait to see everybody at TWS next month!
