Correct me if Im wrong, but dont you need to go pass the first security checkpoint in order to be in the Gate region? Like if you have lay-over in a city, you're just in the gate area and dont need to go thru the metal detector and stuff. But someone coming to visit would need a boarding pass to get back there. Unless you leave the airport completely and then go thru that all again.
Yeah, but most of the food and stores are outside of the terminals in ATL.
So if he were to meet someone and/or leave the terminal, he'd have to go back through the security checkpoint.

you can leave the gate/terminal areas as many times as you like, just go through security every time...this is why I never have any carry-on, I check all my **** and security is never an issue.
most restaurants and shops and all the smoking areas are outside anyways.

I do the opposite; I carry a bag and my laptop and check nothing.
If you've ever had the airline lose your luggage, you'd understand.

Are we talking about the same Atlanta airport? The one with all the big airplanes that say "Delta" on the side? While I grant you that there's not much high gourmet, the midway at concourse E is reasonably palatable, and there's one smoking lounge per concourse in T thru C & E (trivia question: does anybody know why there isn't one in D anymore?) in addition to the smoking section of the Brewhouse in A up the escalator behind the food court in the middle.

Joe, I wrote that before I got to the terminals, atlanta seems to be quiet a bit different. smoking lounges are plentiful here, just gross though. its like a bar without beer, music and bitches.
and please educate me on why there isn't one on D.
im on B btw.
