Wow lots of Colorado guys on this site now! I've been Miata-less for a whole year now. I'm building a motor to correct that problem and hope to have it running before spring is over. Colorado Miata meetup would be awesome for sure.

In regards to emissions testing, up until a year ago it was possible to pass with a Megasquirt. This year the law was changed and now the test requires a working OBD system and no CEL. A parallel install would work I guess. You can pass emissions safely with the stock ECU and your turbo wastegate wired open, I did that one year and tried to build boost but it wasn't even making 1psi at 6000rpm.

as far as emission tests go, you can pass with non functional obd port, as long as you pass the sniffer and visual inspection. the car has to be more then i think ether 11 or 15 years old, dont remember which, the rules are odd.

That's how it used to be across the board, but last year it changed. Maybe it's still the same way with OBDI, my car is OBDII :(

Find a friend outside of the Denver metro area and register the car at their address.

In other news, the time attack was a ton of fun yesterday. Kind of a shitshow early in the day and I didn't think I was going to end up with more than 3 runs all day, but I squeezed in 6 total. Will post some video once I get it sorted.

that is with the change last year, 2004 and earlier they don't have to check for faults they will try to any way but they can't fail you for being unable to communicate or having emission related faults if the car passes on the dyno.

New vehicles are exempt from inspection for the first seven model years.

A 2011 vehicle, for example, doesn't need an inspection until 2018.

Vehicles 8 through 11 years old will be inspected using onboard diagnostics (OBD).

If the “Check Engine” light is turned on, these vehicles will fail the inspection and need repairs.

Vehicles manufactured beginning in 1982 that are at least 12 years old will be inspected using the “I/M 240” dynamometer (treadmill) test.

literally just copied this off the air care Colorado website

Does anybody go to the ECS, 1320 or Nationwide meets?

Boulder here. So it's looking like anyone with a NA/NB should be fine on a standalone as long as you can pass the treadmill/sniffer test?

You had me panicked for a second, and then I read through the DMV's page and breathed a sigh of relief after reading this:

Vehicles manufactured beginning in 1982 that are at least 12 years old will be inspected using the “I/M 240” dynamometer (treadmill) test.
In 2016, this requirement applies to model year 1982 through 2005 vehicles and so on.
A check engine light on a vehicle at least 12 years old may still pass if the I/M 240 test can be run and the car can pass the test. An advisory may be issued.

I might come out to a few Nationwide meets. Who knows.

Emissions was actually pretty easy. Dude let me ride shotgun as I was on the rollers. Twiddled some ***** on the laptop, told him to give it the beans and not granny-shift it and passed with flying colors.

Vid of one of my runs from the time attack event. Pretty cool setup allowing you to run against another driver on a looping, crossover track layout. Decided to try to run the entire series so grabbed some legal tires (200TW) and will be back there again on Apr 3.

For those in Denver Metro who want to hit canyons, the Colorado Miata Club, which is on Facebook, meets pretty much every Wednesday @ Wolly Mammoth @ 6:30 PM.

I'm the guy who posts these. This is actually the "Denver Auto Enthusiasts" meetup, I just make sure to share it with Colorado Miata Club. On account of liking (and owning) miatas and such.

I'll be there tonight in a white bugeye wrx, still building my motor.
