Hampton Roads Dyno Day!!!

All right, I'm gonna do the legwork on this thing.
There are about a dozen dynos in the area, and I've still gotta do the homework on which one to go with and how we're gonna work the whole deal.

We figure out how many people want "IN" and then schedule a 1/2 day or full day. Some dudes will need more time than others. Guys with bandaid setups might need 3-4 runs to tune their fuel and mess with timing. EMS guys might need 6-8 pulls. Some will need WBO2, and some won't. The average car should take a little less than 1/2 hour and guys can show up throughout the morning/day so everybody isn't stuck there the whole time.

This thing also would not be limited to Miatas... but no AWD. Feel free to drive from as far away as you want. Costs would be split as evenly as possible, unless somebody wanted a little more time or special circumstances. I'll foot the bill and collect cash the day of.

So, I need to get a rough list of who's interested. I'm shooting for a mid-late March timeframe to give us time to plan.

Lots more info and specifics to come.
Who is interested?

IcantDo55 02-10-2008 09:57 AM

So I guess your car is running well!

I will be spending the day on mine. Getting closer......call me if your free.

When you thinking for the DD? I know a few people here with dynos, where you thinking? Hit me up before you ink anything.

y8s 02-10-2008 10:20 AM

can you give a zip code or somethin? i'm sure it's roughly 3 hrs from me but i need further detail.

IcantDo55 02-10-2008 10:51 AM

23464 ish

miatamania 02-10-2008 11:16 AM

hmmm, when are you thinking about doing this?

fourwhls 02-10-2008 02:21 PM

I can set this up through All Aspects if you want Sam. They can do AWD cars, so there wouldn't be any limitations.

I spent all day yesterday on their dyno, but I'm sure I'll come hang out and maybe throw it up there for a run or two.

Pick an autocross weekend and we can set up a dyno day on Saturday, then I can school you boys runnin' around the cones on Sunday. Our 1st event at ACU-4 is March 16th.

samnavy 02-10-2008 08:12 PM

^That's the best offer I've heard. I talked with Chris today and he's gonna do some legwork on securing us a date and location. I think that middle weekend in March is perfect. It's always good to get out to the first AutoX of the year when nobody is sorted and there's a full gaggle of noobs w/no clue.

Right now, people can start looking on their calendars for the weekend of 13-14March and securing those days for hitting the dyno.

fourwhls 02-11-2008 08:33 PM

I talked to All Aspects today....

We are penciled in for March 15th from 8:30 till ????

For 3 pulls, the cost will be $45
For 1 hour of tuning (you tuning, not them), the cost will be $75.

Sam we need to set up a time schedule and assign people to slots. 3 pulls will take approx 30min. One hour tuning will take approx 1 hour- 15min. 15min of load/unload time.

Who's coming?

Anybody interested in Autocross on the 16th? I need to know who is coming in advance. My events fill up fast and being that this is the 1st event of the year after a 3 month break, it's going to fill up even faster.

samnavy 02-11-2008 10:58 PM

I'm in for that date. I'll want to put the MS through it's paces, so I'll probably need an hour. I'll be doing a shit-ton of street-tuning until then so hopefully it'll just be fine-tuning.

So, who is in? Shawn(fourwhls) and I will be monitoring and updating this thread and keeping track.

If you're going to be making a long'ish drive, just mention the distance and we'll put you in for late morning or whatever is appropriate.

Anyone in the area will also be welcome/encouraged to stop by and watch the fun.

fourwhls 02-11-2008 11:07 PM

Who's Chris?

samnavy 02-11-2008 11:32 PM

^Edited... long day flying.
Sorry, I'm a jerk... one of the Miatanutz guys is named Chris and I had just sent him an email. I also put the word out on the little yahoo board they've got so we should get some participation there.

Get some rest, I don't want you landing on my house!:crx:

samnavy 02-11-2008 11:44 PM

^Maybe I'll test out our new parachutes and "drop in" to the bar tomorrow evening!

IcantDo55 02-11-2008 11:53 PM

I'll b here!

fourwhls 02-12-2008 07:48 AM

How about a after dyno happy hour at the bar Mike?

samnavy 02-12-2008 10:16 AM

^2nd best idea ever!

shuiend 02-12-2008 06:48 PM

Only problem with that date is it scheduled when us NOVA guys are already having a get together. If you guys move it to another weekend, there wuld prob be several NOVA guys that would com down.

I don't have a problem rescheduling. I just picked the 15th since there is an autocross on the 16th. Being that I run the autocross club, I wasn't going to be able to hang out but so long on Saturday anyway. We set the course up the day before the event.

How about the 22nd? Does that work better?

Once a date has been selected, we probably need to call around to some hotels and see if we can get some good rates.

Maybe Jim, I mean Ralph, no Craig...wait a minute Sam is his name...Sam can sweet talk a hotel manager into hooking us up.

samnavy 02-12-2008 10:34 PM

I've got 2 spare beds at my place anybody is welcome to. The 22nd is good for me too.

samnavy 02-14-2008 02:50 PM

ANYBODY want in on this thing?
So far, I count just 3 of us.

I know for a fact if I put this offer out on the Mazdaspeed6 forum I frequent we'll have plenty of participation. I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple guys from the HamptonRoads Miata Club. It's still a month away, but come on... pipe up if you want in!

Maybe I should put this thread out on the BS forum for some more advertising.

shuiend 02-14-2008 07:33 PM

If we do teh 22nd I will definately come down for it.

samnavy 02-14-2008 09:24 PM

Shawn, any luck with switching to the 22nd w/All aspects.
I've got at least on guy from Miatanutz who's in... that makes 5 of us and I know we'll get more.

fourwhls 02-15-2008 01:49 PM

Confirmed! It has been changed to the 22nd.

Now, who's comming? I hate to put down the highest numbers with a FFS SC.

samnavy 02-16-2008 03:23 PM

So far it looks like five:
Sam (samnavy)
Shawn (fourwhls)
Mike (Icantdo55)
Shuiend
Joe (bringing MS6)

I still haven't put this out on mazda6club.com... but that could get us all the rest we need if we don't get any more Miata-types in the next couple weeks.

Braineack 02-16-2008 03:26 PM

22nd of March?

Correct!

samnavy 02-22-2008 07:50 AM

I have 2 more locals who will be in attendance.
Bryan w/an '04 MSM
RFlynn1 w/a '97 VoodooII (brand new install)

If it ever stops raining! I will see if mine runs. Almost done!

Newbsauce 02-22-2008 03:14 PM

I'm iffy...is it a loaded dyno? I may be in for an hour of "tuning". If we do a happy hour I'm definitely crashing down there hah.

samnavy 02-22-2008 10:23 PM

Affirmative, brand new Dynojet load dyno:

http://all-aspects-motorsports.com/dyno.htm
http://www.dynojet.com/automotive_dy...o/default.aspx

samnavy 02-24-2008 10:26 PM

Another local Miatanutz guy named Jim has signed up.

According to my numbers:
Sam
Shawn
Mike
Joe (Miatanutz)
Bryan (Miatanutz)
RFlynn (local)
Jim (Miatanutz)
Neogenesis

Shuiend?
Newbsauce?

That make 8 definites and 2 maybes. We'll get a few more over the next month. I'm definitely not putting this out on my MS6 forum. We'll have plenty!

And again, if anybody needs a place to stay Fri or Sat night, I've still got one bed totally open. Newbsauce has tentative dibs on the other.

neogenesis2004 02-24-2008 10:32 PM

We got my motor running pretty much mint after you left Scott's and I'm really wanting to know what it is putting down NA before it gets a monster turbo strapped on it. So pending me having to work, I'm in.

shuiend 02-25-2008 01:04 PM

Sam I will definately be down to dyno as long as nothing major goes wrong with my car in between now and then. I am not sure if I will just want 3 runs or actual hour of tuning. I should know in the next couple of days which one. Sam I want dibs on the second bed if we end up going out drinking after the dyno. Is that cool?

Lars

samnavy 02-25-2008 04:39 PM

You got it! 2nd bed spoken for by Lars.

shuiend 02-25-2008 07:41 PM

I lied I dont need the bed. Apparently it is easter weekend that weekend or something So I have to go visit my parents. So I will be down for the morning and a little in the afternoon. Then I will head off to visit my relatives.

saint_foo 02-27-2008 07:23 AM

One of the local (NOVA) Subaru guys went down last weekend to All Aspects and said they were tuning a Miata that had a MegaSquirt setup. One of you guys?

I've met Kienan and Chelsea via Subaru stuff....good people.

fourwhls 02-27-2008 07:40 AM

That would be me!

cargasm 02-27-2008 10:05 AM

Yup!
Count me in!
I'll be bringing my stock MSM to this thing, hang out and talk shop!
Very much looking forward to it!

Bryan

fourwhls 03-06-2008 03:15 PM

Where's the updated list Sam?

How many people do we have coming?

How many people want tuning time? How many just want 3 runs?

samnavy 03-06-2008 04:11 PM

Definites:
*Sam
*Shawn (fourwhls)
*Mike (Icantdo55)
Joe G (Miatanutz)
Bryan W (Cargasm)
RFlynn (Local)
Jim C (Miatanutz)
Neogenesis
*Shuiend
Wayne M

Maybe's:
Newbsauce

(*) I think needs an hour. Mike and I definitely do.

And there are a few others I've spoken to who are coming as gawkers... should be a party. If we think we need one or two more... I can discretly PM a couple guys on my Mazdaspeed6 forum.

And I still think I have at least one bed open. I just found out I've got a damn dinner thing that night, so if we get done late, I might have to pass on drinks... but I'm still gonna open my place if anybody needs a bed.

EDIT: Got one more, Wayne is a local w/original BRP running ELF.

shuiend 03-08-2008 05:40 PM

Sam I am def down for an hour of time. Do we have a price on that yet? Also is it possible that I crash at your palce friday night?

samnavy 03-08-2008 06:12 PM

Totally fine to crash here on Friday.

That makes 4 of us down for an hour, everybody else for 3 pulls. I think if we get the 1hr people done first, and the 3pull types starting right after that... then if we start at 830 with the 1hr people, the others should be able to kick off shortly after 1200... which would be perfect time for pizza to arrive!

fourwhls 03-08-2008 07:28 PM

Sam,
I don't need an hour, in fact I don't need dyno time at all. My car has been on that dyno 6-8hrs in the last month. I think I am good for the time being. I will be there hanging out and helping out, but I see no need to waste time on the dyno. Let somebody else have my spot.

samnavy 03-09-2008 01:10 AM

Sounds good. I may have one or two buddies at Mazda6Club who's interested and has a new ECU... I'll check with him.

fourwhls 03-10-2008 06:27 AM

Sam,
I've got one more person to add to the list. One of the local autocross guys, Robb in his Porsche 924s.

He just got the motor rebuilt and wants a comparison dyno. No tuning needed.

rflynn1 03-16-2008 09:42 AM

letting you know i am definetly coming sam....getting my car back monday morning from abacus. i would still like to get up with you before the dyno day. i have been dying to check you car out, shoot the shit, eat or whatever...but what what is everybody meeting up at AA. i have no clue how to get there and have to mapquest some directions between now and friday night.

miataz 03-16-2008 10:57 AM

Dont forget to get some pics and maybe some videos :bigtu:

raz0rbladez909 03-18-2008 07:30 AM

hey sam I'm NA8C T on the miata.net forums, i'll probably just show up as well for a little bit in the morning and see what kind of numbers you guys will be making, i also will be bringing a stock 04 mazdaspeed

samnavy 03-19-2008 09:24 PM

We'll have another stock '04 Mazdaspeed there for you watch!

It looks like we've got 3 guys looking for an hour of tuning time, and 5-6 for 3pulls.

THIS THING STARTS AT 8:30!!! BE THERE!!!

If you're coming from a distance and want to get started home early or whatever, the schedule isn't set in stone and we can work you in whenever is most convenient for you... just let me know.

fourwhls 03-20-2008 02:23 AM

Sam,
I'd swap the order around and run the 3 pulls 1st. That way the guys tuning are not rushed. I have seen it many times where an hour is just not enough time. I hate to see a bunch of people waiting around and getting irritated because they were scheduled for "X" time and didn't get to get on the dyno till "Y" time.

Also, you may want to contact Mike. I don't know if he still needs tuning time. I know he spent some time on Abacus's dyno last week.

samnavy 03-20-2008 09:11 AM

Roger that, NEW ORDER OF EVENTS!!! Guys running 3pulls need to be there first thing in the morning. That's 0830. They should go pretty fast, so don't be late. I'll have donuts and coffee.

IcantDo55 03-20-2008 10:05 AM

I think I'm going to pass on the tuning time till I work out a few bugs. Looks Like I just need 3 pulls.

samnavy 03-20-2008 01:01 PM

At this rate, we'll be done by noon!

shuiend 03-20-2008 08:14 PM

Unforgently Sam I have to drop out. I just got my credit card bill in the mail and I definately spent to much money last month. I also am having a strange problem with boost cutting off randomly that I have to figure out this weekend.

airbrush1 03-20-2008 08:29 PM

...... I totally forgot about this! Made other plans (and didn't tell work I needed off) so I'll have to bow out this time :(

samnavy 03-21-2008 09:39 PM

Looks like we're gonna be done a little early then...

IcantDo55 03-21-2008 10:36 PM

Breakfast .......?

Lunch.......?

samnavy 03-22-2008 12:01 AM

I thought about getting up a little early to hit breakfast... but then I thought about sleeping in... guess which one won?

Lunch will be someplace close... either we can have stuff delivered, or if we're done early enough, hit Moes for burritos or sumthin?

IcantDo55 03-22-2008 12:14 AM

Get up? I'm working till 4am, I was going to just stay up.

My place opens @ 11 AM.

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 04:13 AM.
