MD/DC/NOVA Dyno Day: April 10th

There's a good shop in MD with a dyno dynamics and a Miata friendly owner who is open to hosting a dyno day.

York Automotive
300 South Main Street
Mt Airy, MD 21771-5389

Costs are $50/participant. 3-5 dyno pulls are included for that price (depending on time and amount of participants). AFR, torque/hp readout is provided.

OFFICIAL date is Saturday April 10th. We will start around 10AM.

We will need about 10 people to make this happen.

Post in the thread if you want to attend. Here is the list of participants:

1. Faeflora
2. Shuiend
3. Fmowry (tenative?)
4. Braineak
5. Swimming108
6. Saint Foo
7. Airbrush

Plus a bunch of people from miata.net and some from chesapeake area roadsters.

Gathering spot will be at the restaurant right across the street. Um I forget the name but it will be the place with wings.

fmowry 01-20-2010 01:45 PM

I better be able to do spring/early summer. If not I have sold the car or am dead.

Frank

shuiend 01-20-2010 05:06 PM

I am interested once I get my built bottom end. Anytime after March should be good for me.

Frank, I know it's been awhile (shooting meet w/ NASIOC in NOVA)....but if you die, could I have your car? Just askin'.

ps: totally kidding if you're seriously sick. If not, just write it off as morbid humor

FRT_Fun 01-21-2010 10:50 AM

Depending on the exact time/date I may be able to go and watch. Quite a drive for me so we shall see.

Braineack 01-21-2010 05:56 PM

I'll show up.

Will give me a chance to swap my MS-II to MS-I and see if there are actually loss/gains with the same timing map.

airbrush1 01-21-2010 07:12 PM

I'll come by and watch, if not dyno my nearly stock 1.6 car...

Just saw this. Sure. My wife wouldn't know what the hell to do with it. Nor my friends. My neighbor has helped with my build so he might want it though.

All of my home theater stuff is up for grabs if I die too, as my wife doesn't even know how to turn the TV on.

Frank

airbrush1 01-28-2010 07:16 PM

my power itch is being scratched by a new house.... I keep dreaming of my LSx swap... but may say screw it and turbo the 91... I HATE not having a fast car :(

swimming108 01-29-2010 04:04 PM

only 1 hour from my door step...i will be there!!!!!!

Give Begi a call. I believe that they do it for free.

Faeflora 02-12-2010 09:03 PM

Date updated to April 10th to avoid Easter weekend.

Braineack 02-12-2010 10:57 PM

I'll be there.

Dibs on the home theater stuff, too! j/k.

I'm in for the dyno day if my COPS from Savington are installed by then and Brain gets a chance to tune it.

Braineack 02-16-2010 09:20 AM

tuning couldn't be easier with that VE Analyze live feature on the new version of tuner studio.

MicaCeli 02-16-2010 01:40 PM

Hmmm If I get my car together by then I might be there.

York does all of my alignments and tire mounting anyway.

saint_foo 02-16-2010 02:14 PM

Oh, we could go to J&Ps for pizza afterwards.

Brain, you hear me?

Bacon and french fry pizza + marinara or ranch dressing for dipping....mmmm.

Braineack 02-16-2010 02:15 PM

i like pizza. magic words.

that would require that i revert the car back to stock, ship it to them, wait a few months, put it back on....

i doubt they would give me a loaner for the down months.

any other ideas for WG porting help

Yes it is.

mazspeed 03-01-2010 02:36 AM

I might have to make it to this one, just to spectate and hang out. Haven't been to a miata event in years. About a two hour drive for me.

swimming108 03-14-2010 01:30 PM

i think i just talked my friend in coming along. (He has a VR6) How many time slots are available?

There's about 15 slots available, depending on time and everyone's expeditiousness in getting on and off the dyno. If your buddy wants to come that would be cool but Miatas get first dyno dibs!

wrxnova 03-21-2010 11:59 PM

Im in, assuming theres still slots.

saint_foo 03-22-2010 08:32 AM

I'm backing out for the dyno. I may still show up, but not comfy going on the dyno.

I need to address some oil/coolant leaking we found at my last oil change. Probably nothing too big...but don't need to get all destructive on the dyno. I'll wait for a future date to dyno.

shuiend 03-29-2010 04:34 PM

I am still a go for the dyno day. Got to try out 15psi with the EBC and see what type of power I can make before my built engine goes in.

ScottFW 03-29-2010 05:05 PM

Put me down as maybe/probably. Wouldn't be dynoing, just coming to watch.

shuiend 04-02-2010 11:43 AM

NoVA crew where all do we want to meet at to caravan up to the dyno day at? I figure if leave by 8 we should easily get there by 10.

Braineack 04-02-2010 11:50 AM

shuiend 04-02-2010 12:07 PM

You are just to lazy to drive anywhere else to meet people. Just admit it now.:fawk:

Braineack 04-04-2010 11:20 AM

That's a factor, but I don't see anything wrong with the idea that I'm the most east before DC, therefore meet at my house.

Plus if we take glebe and GW memorial pkwy to 495, it's an awesome drive.

wrxnova 04-05-2010 01:14 PM

Brains spot is way better (closer) for me too ;) . So 8am?

airbrush1 04-05-2010 01:18 PM

won't be there guys, won tickets to orioles opening day on friday, and I couldn't have off both days

Braineack 04-05-2010 01:19 PM

8-8:30 at my place is good (PM me if you need address), shouldn't take more than an hour and a half to get there.

Faeflora 04-05-2010 02:27 PM

For those who haven't been there before---

As you come down main street, you'll hit a long hill and then an "old town" section. The shop is in an alley on the left right at the beginning of the old town area. There is a sign saying "York Automotive" on the left.

We will meet across the street from the alley in the parking lot by the restaurant. Either my green miata or black forester will be at the parking lot entrance, depending on if my miata is healthy or not.

PM me ur address and I will then decide if it's worth it to drive all the way into Arlington for the mere pleasure of taking the scenic GW Pkwy all the way back out to 495, given that my house is 1/4 mile off 495.

y8s 04-05-2010 10:23 PM

scott's a mile or two from EFC up lee hwy.

swimming108 04-07-2010 05:31 PM

i am pretty excited. i will be there by my self.

Faeflora 04-07-2010 07:30 PM

Is anyone bringing their GF?

I am bringing my BF :brain:, does that count?

Braineack 04-09-2010 10:09 PM

Park at Joe's Pizza.

Faeflora 04-10-2010 09:27 AM

If anyone gets lost you can call me at 1-900... Sorry 410-206-5314

Faeflora 04-10-2010 09:52 AM

Sorry, pack in the gravel parking lot across from the shop.

shuiend 04-10-2010 08:11 PM

It was a good turn out. I really like the shop, just wish that they had more parking. Also it was amazing meeting Ken who is one of the Dev's of MS.

saint_foo 04-11-2010 01:51 AM

So, no drama w/ any cars? Everyone had a good time? I'm bummed I missed out, but had no car (got the 6-speed in thanks to Andrewtech working on a Saturday), and had to remodel my new house. Fun.

My MS resets or has other problems when I run above 10psi. Which made me sad because I wanted to do a 15psi pull. Other then that everything went decently well. no blown motors this time, or coolant shooting in to peoples faces.

Braineack 04-11-2010 10:06 AM

I put my raw data in excel and added 10% to the numbers and compared it to my last dyno in Nov. The dyno operator said his Dyno Dynamics consistently runs around 10% lower than a dynojet with his Spec Miatas, so it will compare fairly well.

All I can say is that I'm happy with how it's running (when it's running on all 4 cly.)

http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2...v-19_dyno1.jpg

Here are the uncorrected numbers, I dunno why I have the loss up top, might be from my metal core cat that I didn't have prior...

http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2...ov-19_dyno.jpg

We need to use this place more often. Ill have pictures of the day uploaded later.

Braineack 04-11-2010 10:31 AM

It appears I need a 1.8L with a small t25:

Damn I wanted to see what your car could do again ;) I need to start looking for a 6 speed too I think. Oh well.
