MD/VA Spring Dyno Day and Meet '11

To occur in the month of May. The objective of the dyno day is to determine if Lars and I can make: HP > Zero

The weather should be nice and the roads warm enough for a fun rally among the foothills of ye old Appalachia. Seriously, there are some very nice driving roads in the area.

So far, this dyno day has a perfect record with no engine deaths in transit to, or on the dyno. Last Fall's turnout was pretty good with various boosted miatae, an LS3 Miata, some starquests, and some nice N/A miatas.

Put a post up here if you want to reserve a slot and I will update the list.

$50/car ~ 3 pulls with some cool down time between pulls if you want to fuck around with your .msq or quickly swap out a part. The dyno owner is a nat-aspirated miata racer so if you have some interesting part to test he might be interested in spending a little more time on it. No guarantees.

Take I70 to route 27. Go straight through the traffic light and around the bend and you will be on Main street. Go down main street about a mile until you reach an "old town" area. About as soon as you reach the "old town" area, you will see a tiny sign for "York Automotive" on the left. Turn in alley and park in the gravel parking lot down the hill.

WHO CAN COME

Miatas are first come first serve. If you want to bring buddies who do not have miatas, that will be fine and they can do their pulls last. More the merrier but no jerks allowed.

I would prefer the end of April personally, this way I possibly have time to get my car done and get it actually tuned down at DIY.

If you're not testing any EMS stuff you could do a pull with a .02 gap and then move it up to a .04 and see how close the dyno charts are?

Right now I am officially back at zero hp since my new coils are not sparking and my Hydra just stopped responding on the COM port. Hopefully that is a coincidence :riaa:

Nice we are in the same boat. My coils don't spark either. Have you tried calling FM and talking to them about it? I know they sell an LS coil kit now, so they might actually be helpful.

The weekend of April 30th is out. That is when the MegaSquirt MegaMeet is and I will be at that.

FaeFlora said new tentative date is May 28th. How does that work for the Nova/DC/MD crew?

Yeah I may come, I've added it to my calendar. 3 hour drive 1 way on my birthday...hmmm. I may be on my boat drinking lots of corona lights that weekend...memorial day and all.

But by then my car will be on the road with a new manifold I'm doing and Lars' setup will be done too. It'd be nice to see them both on the dyno!

And as far as waiting until fall for a setup, that may be a good thing. I think there might be some new stuff coming soon in terms of manifold suppliers and turbos. It might be smart to wait and see what the BW EFR's can do and setups made around them (no necessarily made by me).

My setup better be done by then, or I will cry.

I am sure there is some one in MD who would probably let you crash at their house Friday night if you wanted to come down then.

I will see if I can get the red beast out on the road for that weekend. I need to put my turbo on and wideband gauge and start tuning I have just been lazy.

Rumor is he is shooting for quad turbo. One turbo for each exhaust port.

I should be good for June 18th. Will give me more time to save up and actually go get dyno tuned.

You could probably tune that day if you wanted to, at the meet, after the dyno pulls are over. I have the V2 det cans you can use and someone else could help with your timing if you need help?

Lar still has my V1 det can.

I prefer to have Jerry down at DIY do it. I just get peace of mind out of it and he knows MS better then just about anyone else. I could do fuel and spark myself. It is all the other little things that Jerry does with the MS settings which is nice.

Just went to york on the 30th for the BMWCCA Dyno day, and had a blast. We threw my buddy's 170k mile E39 5 series on the dyno for shits and giggles, and all placed bets on what it would make. Somebody should definitely bring a beater ass car to do this again!

I'm not dynoing, I'm just gonna go and shoot the shit. I pulled my 460's and sold em, so I'm running my stock injectors again. Unless I can get my hands on a set of Yellow RX8 450's or 425's, whatever the hell they are, then I'll dyno.

Sigh... The power record for the day went to a Superformance Cobra putting down 375whp. ClintJG was slated to show up in his 600ish whp supercharged S54 M coupe, but didn't since come Jonathan's M Coupe (his arch-rival lol) is currently blowed up.

I should put stock injectors in my car and drive it up there NA it would be worth it I would say. I am also trying to get Bad6as to break out the LS turbo notch but he is unsure if it will be tuned by then. If so I would put money on seeing every bit of 800whp out of it.lol

I didn't see in the first post nor elsewhere in this thread: Do we "run" the car like at the old delaware place or does the shop/dyno owner operate the throttle while we just stand by and watch? In that youtube video it looked like the same old dude ran each car.

yeah the owner runs the cars since he has to control the eddy brake. i will sit in the passenger seat with my laptop and do my thing. he's very maticulous in the way he runs the cars, making sure they are up to temp before the first run and back down to temp between runs.

On the plus side my car made the 500 mile trip up mostly without incident. VVT had to be unplugged because it started acting up. Also I am leaking coolant at my turbo i think. So I have to make sure I keep radiator and overfow tank full and I am good. Hopefully I hit 300hp tomorrow.
