Miatas at the Gap XV - July 29-31, 2011

Come and join the largest annual gathering of Miatas in the country!

There will be vendors, free food, beer swaps, drives to area attractions (both natural and man-made), and of course... great roads, great people and great cars!

You'll see Miatas in every state of transformation, from bone stock to barely resembling the original vehicle. If you ever wanted to know if something could be done to a Miata, you'll probably see it here!

Vendors will be set up at Fontana with their wares for sale, show and shine will be just about everywhere there is to park and a few places in between.

There will be drives to different locations, including Wayah Road, the Cherohala Skyway, Waterfall Tours, Fat Buddies BBQ in Franklin, and of course, The Tail of the Dragon!

So come and sit a spell and relax with your new best friends.

If you plan on staying the night, I might suggest calling NOW! Lodgings fill up quickly and if they're already full, ask about a waiting list.

See you at the Gap!

Will everyone look at my car and tell me what a shame it was that I modified it? Or is this a more open minded crowd?

It is a good mix of both...probably more slightly modded ones than not.

I enjoy getting out and meeting folks, and then tearing the shit out of some of the lesser known back roads with true canyon carvers.

People always assume b/c a lot of M.netters show up that it isn't a fun event, it is an awesome event.

Hmm in all seriousness I might actually attend, assuming we can do a butt-hugging train wiht a few other miatas down from md/dc/nova.

I don't need a hotel, I will sleep on the ground. In all seriousness though, I have spent many hours sleeping in my miata. I used to drive to work at 4am, clock in, and then go to the parking garage and sleep until 9am. Of course, I worked for the federal government.

The Gap is awesome. I am a native of that area. There used to not be many cops there, so I would take my miata and go keep up with sports bikes. Plus there are sites that will take photos of your car hauling nuts around a corner, and a guy on a bike that will follow you and take a video. I have never not had fun there.

More like get the fuck out of here before I rattle my pet gorilla's cage and turn him lose in your sister's house with a boner.

if you've never been go. A bunch of old dubber friends and I go every year and have a blast. That place is part of what inspired me (and the other buds) to get into a proper sports cars.

MATG is a great event! I've been going since I was 12 or so (22 now).

You won't get any type of good runs during the day, but pre 8am and after 8-9pm the traffic is gone and so are the antagonizers (cops).

Hellbender can be fun, a little bumpy in some spots and coming toward the dragon it can get you trouble since your pace gets cut in half just about. Unless of course, your putting along the drawn out sections.

Cherohala skyway is fun and has a pretty view. Can get yourself in trouble with higher HP cars.

Some of the side backroads are alright, happy valley, couple roads in robbinsville and a few random roads in townsend. They have a lot of driveways connecting to them and the conditions of the road can vary A LOT.

I've been trying to get a little mt.net meet going on up there for a couple of years now. There's of course m.netters there but there's also a lot of ppl that have hardly anything to do with forums that show up with some nice cars. I always wondered what happened to that Canadian crew that use to come every year.

I'd be happy to meet anyone at 7am to do a few fun runs with my stock 94, I'll lead :giggle:

We went to MATG for the first time last year and had a blast. My car didn't get much attention among all the m.net washed and waxed pretty ones until people saw it run and checked out what I have under the hood. After that it received a warm welcome. We're going down for an entire week this year. I agree about running the dragon after dark. Some of our best runs were done between 10pm and 1am.

What color is your shitbox? I saw a few different turbo cars with mt.net stickers just sitting but never saw the owners, it was disappointing.

chicksdigmiatas 03-03-2011 01:07 AM

I could only imagine a turbo car up there. I was staying with z06's and bikes in NA trim. By the way flier, have you ran into old mike burke that runs sts? He is from asheville, he used to come up to bristol and run, and I ran a couple events with his club in Asheville.
