Miatas at the Lake 2010- Southeast MT.net Meetup

We're having a Miataturbo.net shindig and everybody with over 100 posts is invited! Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and beyond are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

When: Saturday, August 7th ALL DAY AND INTO THE NIGHT. Some of the out of town guests will be arriving Friday the 6th and departing some time on Sunday the 8th..

Where: 205 Cherokee Drive, Jackson, GA. Jackson Lake is a 4,750 acre lake about 40 minutes southeast of the Atlanta airport.

I'm volunteering my lakehouse as the location. We'll all get to meet each other, grill out, wakeboard, tube, swim, drink beer, talk about and check out each other's cars, drink beer, ride around in the boat, listen to music, and drink beer.

I'm bringing my boat, a tube and a wakeboard up. Someone else has mentioned bringing his jetski. Bringing additional boats and watercraft is also encouraged. We have plenty of room for docking and anchoring in the cove. The boat ramp is right around the corner.

I have already promised some of my available accommodations to South Florida guys who are coming up (Phil[Levnubhin] and Jared[Leatherface24] are sharing the front bedroom and Troy[miata2fast] has the queen size hide-a-bed sofa if he still wants it). There is room downstairs for a few air mattresses, cots, or bedrolls if anyone wants to crash there, but I need an RSVP on that so we don't run out of room.

For out of town guests that wish to have a bit more privacy, the Days Inn in Jackson, GA is only eight miles away and is newly remodeled. Their standard rate is $48/night, but we can get a group rate if there is interest in about ten rooms. RSVP for that as well and we'll see what we can negotiate for a group rate.

You are encouraged to bring your GF or wife if she isn't a whiny or demanding bitch. If she is, leave her at home where she belongs. If she is fun to be around you are welcome to bring her. If you are unsure which type she is ask yourself "Would Hustler bring her?" It is also encouraged that you bring multiple females so that we don't end up being a bunch of shirtless dudes frolicking in the water together. Seriously, if you ask a chick if she and her friend want to go party at the lake on Saturday they usually will go for it... unless you drive a Miata.

Food and drinks: Bring some more. I'll pick up some burgers and hotdogs and beer but if you bring some, too, that's a help. Bringing additional beer, chips, and other standard cookout food and drinks is welcomed so we don't run out.

Plan to have a great time rain or shine. This is primarily about meeting up with other guys from the forum and having fun. Distance travelers are encouraged and Atlanta is cheap to fly into. Rent a cheap car or maybe you can get a local to pick you up.

We hope to see you at the lake.

NA6C-Guy 06-27-2010 04:14 PM

Good deal. You can mark me down on the list.

OK, I've got an RSVP from dpexp and he's got the first floor reservation for an air mattress. :)

That's three from the
Lauderdale/Miami area already. It looks like southeast Florida is stepping up and bringing a crew on a roadtrip.

I think I'll come up with a longest distance prize.

BTW, if anybody gets hurt on my property we are just tying cinder blocks to your ankles and taking you out to the middle of the cove. If I could afford to pay the deductible right now I'd already be turboed.:)

I need a little clarification. Are you daytripping or needing floorspace or looking to be on the hotel list?

Glad to have you aboard.

I'll have to get back with you on that one. I may likely need floor space, but again it's close enough that if I'm not too drunk I can make the 2 1/2 hour drive back. I can drive Bham to ATL with my eyes closed. I'll bring an air mattress just in case.

I'll mark you down for the floor, but are you sure you're boyfriend is going to be cool with the air mattress?

10-4 Bring something to lay on that's padded like a sleeping bag. It's one of those wood-like floors - not carpet or anything remotely comfy.

It's the little jaunt between there and the interstate that worries me most.

RotorNutFD3S 06-27-2010 09:35 PM

I'm in. I don't see any reason right now that I shouldn't be able to make it. I live about an hour from your house so I won't need any accommodations.

Excellent. I'm glad you're in.

Tell the others.

I'm sure I'll end up crashing on the floor, instead of on the road somewhere.

Well that's at least four on the floor. I think after three or four more, somebody's going to need to pitch a tent or sleep with the skeeters. I've got Deep Woods Off.
Nobody likes hotels? :giggle:

Dude bonding, huh? We'll meat (sic) you there!

I just remembered, if anyone brings a girl and is planning on sleeping on the floor I can get you a semi-private room. The laundry room is right off the kitchen and has a door for privacy and is plenty large enough to sleep two people on the floor. It is air conditioned and has a scenic view from its floor length window. Tropical style roll-up blinds allow the guest to customize their environment further. It is the veritable Honeymoon Suite of terrestrial somnolence.

I'd sleep in the car before I let the vultures, I mean, skeeters carry me away. Hotel costs money, and is away from the fun. If I'm gonna travel to a hotel to sleep, I'm just going home. Maybe that's just me. I can find some creative sleeping spots, so I'm not worried about myself. I've woken up in some weird places, that weren't Hustlers ass.

I dunno, early August in south GA = hot and humid as balls. I just hope it's overcast and a bit of a breeze that day and not blistering hot sun. Lake effect wind better be in play.

Looks like you can fly AirTran for $219 RT all taxes and fees included from MSP to ATL.

I was just up there this weekend and it was warm but less humid than central Florida. It is still a vacation when I go up there. There was a nice light breeze on both Saturday and Sunday.

I'm right down the road so I should be there, assuming I can get off work.

gospeed81 06-28-2010 11:39 AM

Shoot, this is the weekend before we were heading to Barber, otherwise I'd try to work in swinging by for a bit.

He's got it apart right now replacing the original air conditioning lines, installing a bunch of new gauges and sensors (which involves removing the intake manifold and part of the dash), and putting in new ignition parts. Everything has been going slow with it since we came up there. He's been taking some hard classes in the master's degree program he's working on and spending time dating chicks instead of getting out in the hot garage and finishing up. And he's been driving the turbo 350Z a fair amount lately. I figured if I invited him he would put in for his own room and I've already promised that to the boys from south Florida.

We'll make a trip up there in the fall with the Skyline specifically for playing in the mountains with you guys again.

WonTon, Gotcha down on the floor list.

redrider706 07-05-2010 03:46 PM

I am in. I just need a small corner.

Doppelgänger 07-05-2010 08:15 PM

You thought about posting this up on mx5atlanta.com ???

sixshooter 07-05-2010 08:45 PM

Nope. I really want turbo Miata guys from this forum to get together. If they aren't active here and I don't at least recognize their screen names I'm not so interested in meeting them or having them in my house. Maybe some other time.

I would, however, like for you to invite Steve with the Evo because he's a cool guy (and he does have an account here but I can't remember his screen name). He is welcome to bring his girlfriend, too. You are all welcome to bring them, if I didn't make that clear earlier in the thread. George is welcome as well, since I know him.

BTW - Gary will be coming up but without the Skyline. He'll be riding shotgun in the truck pulling the boat with me. We are already making plans to bring the Skyline in the fall.

hell yeah, im excited....

steves S/N on here is either Bojmir or MeFryRice...

MeFryRice 07-05-2010 10:25 PM

This is Steve with the Evo. Sean (WonTon) was telling me about this thread so I figured I'd poke my head in. The gf and I would be happy to come down that day. Depending on how much alcohol is involved will determine whether we will be crashing there or not but you can go ahead and add us to the list. :D

Great! Bring something comfy to lay on in case you stay. We will quickly be running out of floor space at this rate.

Doppelgänger 07-13-2010 07:53 AM

I was tempted to throw up an ad on CL telling everyone there was an open orgy at that address on that date :giggle:

NA6C-Guy 07-13-2010 08:11 AM

If it wasn't so hot, I would bring a big tent, but I'm a big pussy and really dislike the heat. Could easily sleep another 5 or 6 people in it, but I'm not even sure it would fit with the trunk closed. If it fits, I might bring it in case other people would be willing to sleep in the heat. Maybe we will get lucky and it will be an unusually cool and dry (not humid) August day in Georgia :jerkit:

sixshooter 07-13-2010 08:38 AM

Raising the stakes a little bit, I have received word by PM that Magnamx-5 might be attending...

Doppelgänger 07-13-2010 08:47 AM

In that case, I'll dig up my Speak-N-Spell.....

sixshooter 07-17-2010 08:41 PM

Would someone please step up and bring their charcoal grill when they come? I don't have one up there and it would be a colossal PITA to bring my gas grill up there from FL while pulling the boat and carrying tons of additional supplies and boating gear. Anyone?

WonTon 07-18-2010 12:25 AM

if anybody is close to me that has one i can bring in down in ma truck! and anything else that cant fit in a yata.....

sixshooter 07-19-2010 09:36 AM

Anyone?

p51hellfire 07-19-2010 10:05 AM

I don't have one sorry

buffon01 07-19-2010 10:21 AM

I have a very little one for family only. I wouldnt mind taking it but Im getting a ride. Sarry

Doppelgänger 07-19-2010 10:29 AM

If I had one....

thagr81 us 07-19-2010 03:15 PM

Eff my work schedule... I can't make it.

shuiend 07-19-2010 03:22 PM

Dammit, why isn't this the weekend beforehand when I am down in ATL getting my car tuned.

RotorNutFD3S 07-19-2010 03:25 PM

I will no longer be attending. I'm taking a vacation with the g/f and the only time we could get has us leaving on the 7th.

levnubhin 07-19-2010 03:30 PM

fail boats, and now Jared is adding to that, He's talking about not going. Everyone get on him.

I'd be there, but I'll be tearing up the pavement at Road Atlanta both sat and sun. I doubt time will allow for a stop-in after day-end on Saturday. You know how busy track weekends are. Have fun guys!

leatherface24 07-19-2010 04:24 PM

Uh health issues with multiple family members, ones that can end in death is plenty good of an excuse. Lets see, My dad, brother, grandmother and now grandfather all on their death bed.....

i would agree with you that that is a good reason to miss this, im sorry your going trough a hard time right now man, i hope your family begins to get better.......

Hey Levnubhin, how long is your drive? I know mine is at least six and a half and you guys are well south of me.

You should come anyway.
