TxMC round 2 @ MSR-Cresson
About 1 month away! Who's gonna man-up and try something new this year?
The event is Sat. march 12th, i believe we're running the 1.7mi. ccw configuration. This is a VERY fun and challenging track. You can register here: http://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1203 So who's in? |

We have an issue. DE1, 2, and 3 are running the 1.7 as planned, so many people signed up for TT/DE4 that we're running on the 3.1.
NASA needs to get over their shit and run two TT groups, but this is what we're left with. How do you guys care to score this? |

NASA needs to get over their shit and run two TT groups, but this is what we're left with. How do you guys care to score this? I notice there's another TTA miata signed up. Who is that and what is his setup? Hopefully he'll join us for TxMC, and should be unlimited if running TTA. There's a couple more miata's running in HPDE4, but i'm guessing spec guys trying for comp lic. If they run TxMC as mod, that screws up everything... So, if all unlimited cars are in TT/HPDE 4 and Street and Mod class are HPDE3 or lower there's no problem (other than comparing times/margins). Anything else and TxMC is screwed. I'm gonna guess that the Friday happy hour will be on the 1.7 for the w2w guys. They should just run everyone on the 3.1, but the w2w guys are whining. They could run all HPDE and TT on the 3.1 and w2w on the 1.7, but I'm pretty sure that won't happen either. That's the best for TxMC, but we have no voice (yet). Having never run the 3.1, I'll be getting an education on the warmup lap  Off to review film now. clusterfuck fer sure. |

Nope not me registered for hpde 3, I'm running in street class.
|
That guy from DAL racing has an NSX that "races on TV" and I think this is one of the drivers. He signed up for the last race in Houston but no-showed.
I ran the 3.1 about 4-years ago for one session. Some bastard in a 996GT2 decided to take the "1.7 route", backed-up into traffic, and I almost hit him and went spinning. Then, he somehow overheated the car at the end of that session and poured anti-freeze all the way around the 3.1. So I have about 3-laps out there. |

well, i think all unlimited will be in tt. last events street class winner is in de4, but i can probably get him to run in three for a session to get a lap time since i can't get the de3 up into 4. i have dropped into de3/4 from tt a bunch of times when i missed a session due to car troubles, etc... and it wasn't a big deal. only thing is now you need to get a de3 sticker from that group leader in the morning. i shared a car last time and my buddy ran tt and i ran de3 and didn't have problems except for 1 grid guy told me i needed a de3 sticker but still let me out. easiest thing would be to say, "hey group leader, i bought extra sessions so i need a sticker to go out in de3"
i guess we'll just have to see what's up when we get there. oh, i doubt i'll be in TxMC. i'll probably be in a turbo crx since i can't seem to get spark in my miata still. :vash: |

I don't know what it is with msr-c, but I've seen more fluids put on that track (and more cleanup delays) than any other. Last year an evo oiled down half the 1.7 race line and then a bmw at the pca tt did the exact same thing. Ten TTA cars signed up and five in your class. Should be a blast. EDIT: LOl at typin while spoolin is posting. See ya there.. |
Yeah, I'm pumped. I've been working on trail braking on Forza all month because I know I need to reduce steering angle and trail brake harder. They way I back into 6, 9, and 10 at Hallett is how I need to hit Big Bend, Little Bend, Rattlesnake, and Buzzard Neck.
|
Wow! Looks like fun. I only live about 7 miles from the track.
Unfortunately, I'm going to be doing my Baron refresher that weekend in San Antonio. Actually, that'll be fun too. 1040 cubic inches of 100LL sipping Continental. You guys have fun. Maybe next year. Hopefully, my build will be done by then. Hmmm . . . are builds ever done? |

|
I'm hoping to get out there this weekend, but no promises.
My car sits on a brand new set of AST's and I haven't even driven the car since I installed them over a month ago. Jeff said I can use his car, but I haven't checked it over and I'm worried about blowing up the 5 speed. I'm in the process of trying to help a local guy get his car finished and sorted for this NASA event, so I might not even have time to get mine ready. Maybe I'll see ya'll saturday.... |
In order to get your car ready all you need are keys, jackass.
|
Yes I signed up for TTS, then realizing I was not following procedure, asked them to move me back into HPDE4.
I did several laps in a CMRA endurance race in the back section as a circuit, albeit on a slightly slower machine, an NSR-50. It is going to be interesting doing it in the Miata. The toilet bowl should be fun. Last count there were 37 entries between TT and HPDE4. Even on the 3.1 that is going to be a bit crowded. I have a mushy brake problem I have not resolved. I have bled the brakes, over and over, and even replaced the master cylinder this evening with a brand new one. I bench bled it thoroughly. The pedal is firm until I start the engine and the brake booster get vacuum. Then it is so mushy the pedal can be pressed all the way to the pedal stop. There are no brake fluid leaks anywhere. |

There are no brake fluid leaks anywhere. right now TxMC looks like this. unlimited class runs 3.1 course. street class runs 1.7mi. track. hopefully any mod class entrants will all be on one or the other. there is one street class guy, matt, last event winner that is in de4. but he will probably have to run 1 session with the de3 group for TxMC. shouldn't be a problem, i've done it every event, the problem will be going up. if someone with an unlimited class car is in de3, he probably won't be able to enter TxMC because unless he get's promoted to de4 he'll be on the smaller course. that really sux. hopefully we won't be in that situation. Jwags, you better be there with your car. especially if i'm gonna make it, there's no excuse for you! yeah, that's right bitches, i may actually be in my miata, and it may actually run right! keeping my fingers crossed. but i got it figured out tonight. i still have to get my ecu diode swapped out for the right one, but as long as nothing else goes wrong i'll be ready for battle. sux that i've never driven that track, but whatever, i'll just follow somebody for a session. |
lol @ 40 cars on a 3-mile track. Maybe it's time for a TT only day with NASA.
|
Sux that wags and quan won't be in. Missing a few others from last year as well. Hopefully the conga line will allow for learing the track at slower speeds. The really fast guys only do 2-3 laps then pull off so that will help open it up.
Having never been on it should be intereating doing recon on the warmup. Lost of times they won't do the later sessions either. I'm guessing that the last Sunday session will be my best chance for a hotlap, but won't count for TxMC. Should be fun though. Haven't run since ECR and jonesing.. |

Won't be "in" for this one... still some parts on the list before ready. But I will be there for hand holding and hugs. See you gays this weekend. ;)

run a hard dog roll bar. only other thing needed is a helmet (preferably a sa2005 rated helmet). probably won't be running with nasa for TxMC events next year, but the rules are pretty much the same with all hpde groups.

i would look at the brake booster check valve first, and then make sure you don't have a leak at the booster or hose.
I'm looking at getting dynalites with smaller pistons in a big hurry. EDIT: The parts are on their way, Forged Dynalites with 1.38" pistons. These are the same calipers used in Savington's BBK. It is going to be close but they should fit the wheels. If this all works out, I'll be there. Otherwise... Anyone know if the track vendors carry Hawk DTC-60s or 70s for Dynalites? I have a brand new set of DTC-70s on the car now, so if they last the whole weekend I am OK. |

So I figured it out. The piston area on these is HUGE, 50% bigger than stock. Hence the much greater pedal travel. Not to mention the huge bias shift forward. I should have checked that

Should be there (dinero pending) but if so all the car needs is general track maint. And if time allows an allignment... Fingers crossed!!!

I'm not sure if MER sells them but I know PST sells PFC pads and they've sold me a set in a pinch before. You probably want the PFC-01's. I also have spare 60's in my box. Your 70's will last a few weekends, I'm getting 4+ days out of my 60's.
|
LOL at Discount Tire. For NT-01s in 225/45/15 he quoted me $160 per tire plus tax. When I pointed out onlinetires.com sells them at $122 plus shipping, he dropped the out the door price (not mounted, with tax) from $700 to $544, to beat onlinetires $555 with shipping.
Plus the tires will be here on Friday. I am bringing an extra set to MSR just in case. My TWIs are showing. |
FYI I'm only running Saturday because I have to work in San Diego next week, lol. "Work".
|
i'll be in a corner station on sunday, watching out for you gays safety.
|
I'll be sure to cause a real big incident in your corner.
The new brake calipers are in the car and working well so I am looking good for this weekend. I have a minor upper radiator hose clearance issue to correct but otherwise I am good to go. |

I have a minor upper radiator hose clearance issue to correct but otherwise I am good to go. but otherwise seems okay. gonna get the alignment checked today. i noticed a scuff in front of my pass. side rear tire at ecr and then noticed weird handling on a left turn. looks like someone may have backed a trailer into my car or something. hopefully it's just out of alignment or maybe there was something on the track in the corner where i noticed it. my buddy is going up there with us. he just finished his second fd lx-7 swap. his last one was pretty fast, but he sold it due to his height and the sunroof. this new one doesn't have one but instead of 360whp, the new one is pumping out 515whp! plus it has a roll bar, mono flex, stoptech bbk. if anything, his only weak link might be tires. not sure what he'll be rolling on. should be fun though. |

Suddenly my LS1 swap feels small and inadequate :noes: Glad you will make it. I made some changes to the suspension that bias it towards oversteer, which may be an improvement since I was biased towards understeer previously. It could get tail happy. But I have a set of stiffer front springs I can swap out if need be. I am bringing a Longacre pyrometer, the probe type, with memory. We should be able to work something out on taking tire measurements if the TxMC people are split between two sessions. If someone will measure temps for me in my session, the gauge will be available for others as well. This is on a non-interference basis of course. It is all about me after all. |
You know what?
I'M STOKED! Are we there yet? |

What was the problem?
Hey, if it is not too last minute, what about a Saturday evening beer exchange? Everyone bring a 6 of your favorite beer (something really good) and we'll trade. It is like a a cookie exchange, but with much more win... (Actually this is a plot on my part to cause several to miss the first session Sunday morning due to extreme hangover. More track space for me. I'm bringing ABT 12, in the BIG bottles). Seriously though I'll bring a 6 of something tasty. Who is in? |
My front sway was hitting the control arm due to the long-ass links. I put in shorter links, clearanced the swaybar-rubbers again, and now I have much less effective front spring rate.
I'll bring some Flying Dog Belgian Style Witbeer. I need some cooler space. |
Don't care what anyone says, John Wags proved he is the best miata driver in Tx.
|
The 3.1 is fun but god damn it's a lot of track to learn in 4-sessions. It was cool to reel in the TTS/U and ass-pound the TTA cars on the 1.3 side, then wave goodbye on the 1.7. I found myself giving up space around Little Bend so I'd have space on the 1.3 to run clean.
|
All you guys suck and I hate you.
Congrats to the weiners. :winner: |

That was stupid fun this weekend. All objectives were achieved: The car and I came back in one piece, I improved, I had a great time, and I obtained my TT license. Hell thanks to one of the NASA gang (Chris) I even got to sample what may be my new favorite beer, Unibroue Terrible.
The 3.1 mile course is fantastic. I love it. |

Last session of the day, tired, sawing the wheel, jazz hands, forgetting braking points. I cleaned-up a bit at 9:00 when I gave the TTS and TTA cars behind me some space.
I wish I watched this earlier in the day, I would have fixed some nasty habits and gone much faster. |

Jeff, it was posted what the plan was here and on supermiata.com If you had beat the street guys with a street class car, you may have gotten a trophy. Besides, I didn't know you wanted to run TxMC. You didn't last event for some reason. Which brings up something. I need to know who's running in the morning so I can get the Laptimes from timing and scoring or from traqmate/GPStimers if you have those. I will put a sheet on my window with a pen. If I'm not there write your name, class, car#, and I'll catch up with you. I'm going to go through all the MC rules and add or amend the few different rules/procedures for TxMC on our forum on supermiata.com It's not as big of a deal right now, but if we plan to grow this thing, we need to follow these basics to stop a fluster cuck, or other shitty things from happening. Anywho, results and event report to follow later today when I can get to a computer. Btw, I had a blast with y'all this weekend and msrc 3.1 rocks! it's even more fun than 1.7 But definitely takes more than 4 sessions to figure out. |
Yeah, awesome day at the track. I also really like not jacking my car up between sessions. |

After two days (8 sessions) I went through about 1/2 the pad material so I need to keep a spare set of pads with me. But at $80 a set for DTC-70s, so effin what?! The Corrado rotors also still look great. |

Fun day for sure..sorry Trey, camera fail during our cat and mouse session, didn't get any coverage of you.

YouTube video of a Sunday session, complete with spin. There is some footage of Dan in here as well.
This was shot with a #3 808 keychain camera in 720p. I figured out after the event that it was not adjusted for infinite focus by the factory. Notice how unfocused distant objects are, and how well focused the grass is at the end of the video LOL. The black specs of stuff that flash by in the video is bits of tire rubber flying off of the track. |
cool vid. i should have used my keychain cam. i had it with me but it wasn't charged and i ended up just using my phone which combined with youtube made for poopy quality. lol... might wanna skip the first half, it's just the warm up lap and i usually take the second one pretty easy also, till my tires are warmed up.

Oh SNAP! :D
Looking at that video at my spin it looks pretty much like it felt. I went in way too deep, trail braked too much to compensate, lost grip, and ran out of track. |
