Sweet, man. I wish I had an MT.net shirt, would have made some things easier.

Curly, I appreciate your enthusiasm. I DID take the corkscrew sideways, plus went off the track at turn 3 during my last session. Session 3 was a huge headache and one and two were no passing allowed. But overall I was pretty happy with it for my first outing. Last session I just kept shouting

"This track is freaking fantastic!!!! "

I do wish I had taken the time beforehand to prepare something to capture speed and stuff but I failed at that. Just my cell phone in a shaky mount.

Whatever. It was fantastic.

I'll be there for a bit tomorrow but will probably head out right around lunchtime.

turbofan 09-06-2014 11:03 PM

And just watched the video... My only clean lap was in my last session and I ran a 1:52. :/

curly 09-06-2014 11:32 PM

I need a comparison, how long does a walk around the track take?

Jeffbucc 09-06-2014 11:34 PM

Glad you got the car ready in time to race Ed!

EO2K 09-07-2014 12:14 AM

Sorry I was MIA all day and missed you guys. I got home last night and immediately crashed out with the worst head cold I've had in years. I have no idea where this came from. I went from having a little tickle in my throat to full on sinus blockage in about an hour and a half. I didn't get moving until about 1pm :sad2: I just hope I'm functional tomorrow.

Ed, get that video uploaded! Too much speed or bad track position when you went off at 3?

turbofan 09-07-2014 01:51 AM

*ahem* my math was wrong. 1:54.

turbofan 09-07-2014 02:07 AM

Josh, you're hilarious. SM record is like 1:46 something IIRC.

Jeff, thanks. I'm glad you made it safely and wish you could have been there.

G, the off was a combination of two things: I overcooked the entry, and when I realized I overcooked it, I breathed on the brakes which really messed things up.

Rear end started stepping out a bit just after turn-in. That had happened before, so no biggie at first, but then I realized I was going quite a lot faster than I should have been. I breathed on the brakes and then it REALLY started to come around. I realized I could either correct the slide and go off the track forwards and straight, or I could NOT correct the slide and go off the track backwards/sideways. I chose the first one.

Video is uploading. Hotel wifi. It's been working on it for at least 2 hours and is still says 280 minutes remaining...

18psi 09-07-2014 02:27 AM

something something something this has happened before.

:giggle: JKJK

But seriously, that car is fast and you should be careful.

gesso 09-07-2014 02:46 AM

Spent the day getting the Exocet ready today. Around 4 I decided to call it good and go for a shake down drive in it... down hwy 1 from hwy 84 to Laguna Seca.

Got there just as it got dark, ate my free dinner at the track, and drove up 101 home.

Got home a found the short the caused my cluster to fail (no tach and no speedo made for an interesting 200 mile round trip). And now I'm gonna get cleaned up and go to bed so I can get up and do the same drive tomorrow but with hot laps in between! Come find me if you want a ride in an Exo somewhat in between war machine and FMs yellow thing.

I'm in run group C, red body work, black frame, and zip ties like you wouldn't believe!

turbofan 09-07-2014 02:48 AM

I saw you go the other way as I was heading back from the track. Looks like fun!

You missed out, Gesso would have made you crap your pants. He took my advice and put arm tethers in the car so you even get a little bondage to go with the experience. He offered to let me drive it but I was so sick and miserable by that time that I just sat out the last session. I had no business being on the track in such terrible shape.

Ran into BBundy, mr_hyde, bellwilliam and some other people I'm sure I'm forgetting. Had to try desperately not to shake hands with everyone and spread this plague.

Even with being sick today was totally worth it though. I had a fucking blast.

kotomile 09-08-2014 12:30 PM

Had a great time out there, don't know if I met any of you besides Qckslvr, who I was working with in the merch tent. Pretty sure he isn't all that active here anymore.

Got a ride along with Brian Goodwin and Savington. Sav's gotten a lot more aggressive in his driving than in the turbo days, in a good way. Riding with him in A group felt like having the best seats in the house at a SM race.

Qckslvr's driving a P1800 these days:

18psi 09-08-2014 12:38 PM

Oooh, we were wondering who brought that awesome wagon.

My buddy was drooling over it all day.

kotomile 09-08-2014 12:55 PM

It's in really great condition. He has a few mods, like a 2.3l engine from a 240, Webers, some kind of better transmission, etc. Has cool details like a prancing moose horn button and AEM UEGO gauge guts in an original cup in the instrument cluster.

turbofan 09-09-2014 03:55 PM

That was a super cool wagon. Figures it'd belong to an MT.netter.

I should have spent more time there Sunday. Never made it to see the catfish :(

What an awesome trip though!!

Screaming04 09-10-2014 03:02 AM

Hey turbofan, I was in your run group Saturday. ( the other turbo, the guy next to you in the final download... Not the irritating chick) if I hear big enchilada one more time...

My memory is foggy, yours is the Red MSM with the rotas or the gray MSM that was right behind me in the last session?

That lady.... Oi. Could not believe the level of attention hog she was going for.

Did I come off as super arrogant in the class sessions? I just wanted point-by's, that's all...

turbofan 09-10-2014 11:34 AM

Oh I see you added stuff to your SIG now. Yes I remember your car! Fun times.

doward 09-10-2014 04:16 PM

What a week(9 days).

After all was said and done Saturday, I was able to ride in both Moti's Blackbird Fabworx Creampuff and Ryan Passey's red turbo NA for a full session each, one lap in Deviate, as well as run 4 of my 5 hot lap sessions in 3 different cars. I drove a mazda crate motor'd na6, a basically stock MSM with 6uls and Blackbird's trial trunk/spoiler as well as the vvt swapped/Tein coil'd/225 RS3/9" red 90' that I helped build. All three Ohio cars, all three drove there and back on the trip that broke my car. On my first flying lap during my first session ever at Laguna, in a 112hp 1.6 car i'd never driven before I did a 1:58.xx and eventually worked down to a 1:53.3 in the MSM. Pretty happy with that. The vvt NA didn't rent a transponder but I think I might have been faster in it than the MSM just because of the easy-to-drive suspension/wheel tire setup. The MSM floating, diving and shifting 30 times every lap got pretty tiresome.

I did ~1500 miles in my miata, ~600 miles in a Ford C-Max rental(including 100+ miles up HWY 1 from Cambria to Monterey at sunset) and another ~800 in a Mazda2 rental.

turbofan 09-10-2014 04:24 PM

The NA6 was Joe's car, I presume?

Glad things worked out.

How did that suspension feel compared to your xidas?

doward 09-10-2014 10:08 PM

Joe's? No idea. I was too busy learning the track and dealing with my knees in my throat. We are the same height when we stand next to each other, but my legs must be 2-3 inches longer than his. No sliders under his seats. His is also on 17" wheels and has doorbars and welded in frame rail braces, strut braces and all kinds of trickery.

Darren's red vvt swapped na6 is a peach though. Its basically a 3-4 year outdated 949 formula. Mid range Tein's w/NB mounts, ginormo racing beat front, stock nb rear, 15x9s and 225s. I have a ton of seat time in it and that package feels great.

I saw FM had discount cards flying all over the place, but every time I asked for one they were out and told me to check back later :(

I actually bought the Racing Beat PN 54103 swaybar off the display for about 30% under MSRP

doward 09-20-2014 12:50 PM

Keith was giving out windshield banners at the wolf hill photo and gave out discount cards if you had the banner on your car before the helicopter flew over.

Had I seen this, I might have actually come back with my truck and grabbed it. I have another project that may/may not need an engine swap and I've been trying to figure out what to do with it.

Damn internet, ya no definitely not serious lol, my co-driver did a nice 3rd to 2nd up shift at 8000rpm and put all the intake valves into the pistons, we swapped motors saturday afternoon and had this one on display for sunday.

EO2K 09-24-2014 03:42 PM

Oh I figured it was trashed, but it would still make a good fitment dummy ;)

SchmoozerJoe 02-17-2015 03:56 AM

So. I know it's really early... but who all is registered for 2015?
The girl will be in group C1 on Sat/C on Sunday.
I'll be there in B both days.

Anyone else?

18psi 02-17-2015 09:10 AM

I plan on being there.
Definitely want to meet moar MT folks

EO2K 02-17-2015 12:29 PM

I requested for C1 Sat, C Sun. Friday BBQ, no banquet.

I wish more people visited this section. There were a ton of people after the event that said they were there, but didn't realize we were meeting up :(

So how do we spread the word?

SchmoozerJoe 02-17-2015 12:49 PM

Well, we have over seven months to organize something... I know last year I had about 2 days notice before I was going.

Mary (the GF) will be in the same run groups as you Eo2K.
So perhaps a little MT area in the paddock?

PatCleary 02-17-2015 12:59 PM

C1/C here. Looking forward to it already.

SchmoozerJoe 02-17-2015 01:07 PM

Hey there Pat... I'm pretty sure we know each other through Mazdaracers?
And, you ran into my buddy Brian at Laguna Seca a few weeks ago with his blue/greenish Miata?

gesso 02-17-2015 01:10 PM

C1 sat/ C sun for me. C2 on sat for my GF.

I registered us both in my 2000 which hasn't run in 2 years now. We'll see which "miata" we actually show up with :p

cyotani 02-17-2015 01:17 PM

C2 sat and C sunday for me.

I didn't get the C1 memo... Thanks guys.

PatCleary 02-17-2015 01:34 PM

Joe, I'm the same Pat, I've been hanging out over here as a couple friends are on the site (and if I race it won't be SM so MazdaRacers is less useful). I met Brian a few months back at Thunderhill, and had a great time trying and failing to keep up. I didn't catch up with him at LS unfortunately. I'll be at the trackmasters Autox in a few weeks and then the Thunderhill 2 day mid March if you're headed to either.

Geoff, just let me know when you need help to get that thing running. I'd love to see what it'll do to a track.

aidandj 02-17-2015 02:09 PM

C1 on saturday here, looking forward to this. Road trip ftw. I plan on doing a Thunderhill day earlier in the summer so it won't be my first long trip. I know at least 3 PDX guys are going.

What's up Pat!

I'm signed up for C2 Saturday as well. Bummed we aren't in the same group, playing around at Thunderhill was fun. You'll have to let me know what day you are going back to Thill.

Mobius 02-17-2015 02:20 PM

Group B both days.

SchmoozerJoe 02-17-2015 02:54 PM

I'm sure it will be easy enough to swap run groups between C1 and C2 folks, if you find a willing member of the opposite group.

I mean, there are 30 weeks before they'll be handing out the information packages. Something tells me they haven't printed them up yet.

Jeffbucc 02-17-2015 03:04 PM

I totally spaced sign ups so I won't be making it this year.

aidandj 02-17-2015 03:05 PM

There has to be a waiting list. Especially with the full refund policy.

turbofan 02-17-2015 04:16 PM

I'm registered for BBQ friday night and C1 Saturday. Didn't register for Sunday trackday. Might regret that.

In for MT.net area at the paddock.

Anyone who I actually met at MRLS last September I'll send to for free. Anyone else can paypal me $2 and I'll send one to you. This isn't meant to make money at all, just want to share the love. I've got probably 25 or 30 of them. Let me know if you want more than one.
