The Unofficially Officially Unofficial MT.net Miatas @ MRLS Meatup Thread (2019)

So, Vlad is right. We need to all get together and measure ... the performance of our cars, or something.

Where can we meet? EO2K you're probably the most familiar with the area, breakfast friday morning or something?

18psi 09-02-2014 05:16 PM

in for meatup

shuiend 09-02-2014 05:38 PM

In for wishing i knew you gays would have a meatup sooner so I could have sent out decals and such. I am not covering the costs of sending decals from the east cost to the west coast by Friday.

Jeffbucc 09-02-2014 06:05 PM

I have a sticker guy Lars if you need me to print some up.

I am hoping I can make it but it is looking iffy. My employees are being bitches.

turbofan 09-02-2014 06:08 PM

Lars: I agree, this thread should have been created long, long ago.

Jeff: tell them to un-bitch themselves. I need to see your car.

The question is... how many people? There is a Blackbear Diner in Monterey right down 218 from MRLS but I have a feeling it'll be a high profile target as a breakfast spot on Friday AM. They have a back room but I have no idea how many people it takes to fill/reserve it.

Also of note: Watch your speed on 218 as you travel from Monterey/Seaside to the track. Its a VERY well known speed trap in the area. The "city" of Del Rey Oaks uses tickets issued on 218 as its only source of income.

Jeffbucc 09-02-2014 07:06 PM

I'm pretty sure I'm going exactly the speed limit once I get out of Nevada. Ya'll Northwesterners and your crazy slow speed limits and tons of cops.

EO2K 09-02-2014 07:19 PM

Added thread link to sig. Time to crap up some threads and spread the word!

Thanks for the tip about Del Rey Oaks.

I'm down for black bear. If we all meet there and it's too crowded we can always go somewhere else, but if we CAN eat there it'll be great cuz that place is awesome.

curly 09-02-2014 07:49 PM

Contact Brian Kelly and Jeff Mann, I believe they're both going down, although they'll be trailering. There's also a dude "with the 2nd miata delievered to the US" at AR, getting his stroaker 1.6 replaced with a NA 1.8, and his link replaced with a Hydra. Last I saw it (last night), it was on a lift with no engine or transmission, or interior, getting FM frame rails.

But he's planning on leaving Wednesday.

Wait, so you are coming along?

Tentatively yes. As long as I can find a decent spot to set up a tent and bum it hippy style.

I have a feeling finding a hotel room and finding a room for a decent price will be impossible.

I wish I had my 2" hitch welded to my Jetta so I could tow the Miata up on a dolly and sleep in my Jetta, but September snuck the fuck up on me.

gesso 09-02-2014 09:02 PM

Assuming I'm not in my garage try furiously (futilely?) to get my car working, I'll try to make this. Mind you that's a big assumption.

Jeffbucc 09-02-2014 09:15 PM

Also if I do make it up, and someone (Ed)managed to get a track spot, I volunteer them driving my car around the track(as long as I'm in the passenger seat). Would be fun to see someone else drive it. Or just let EO2K drive it in sympathy for not having the turbo ready yet.

turbofan 09-02-2014 09:43 PM

Well I've been signed up for a track spot since the beginning. I'm not sure I can just swap cars like that though. But wow, that'd be absolutely insane to drive your car. I think EO2K would be a far better option... have you seen my quarter panel?

So, black bear, Friday morning? Shall we say 9 AM?

Jeffbucc 09-02-2014 09:49 PM

I'm all for it, as long as you don't find a tree to hug with it! What I'd really like is for Emilio or Savington to take it for a lap or two and give me their brutally honest opinion(something tells me I already know what it would be...).

18psi 09-02-2014 11:02 PM

what is the specific address you gayz?

and who's bringing lube?

I got the gimp suits and sex swing, can also bring whips.

I'm guessing here? I've got as much Motul grease as a gay Russian could want Vlad, only the best...

Right? Have you ever been to a BBD though? Super good comfort food/breakfast.

The best thing about them is their reasonable portion sized "little less" options... like two egg omelettes or one egg breakfasts complete with smaller sized meats and sides.

18psi 09-02-2014 11:27 PM

Never been to one. I guess its a bay area thing, we just have a ton of IHOPs and Dennys here.

Will be really cool to meet some of you gaylords though.

We can make fun of m.net and cr and then drive down and mingle with all of them.

turbofan 09-02-2014 11:54 PM

They're a chain, first one I went to was in St George but there's one about a mile from our house here in Portland.

doward 09-03-2014 12:16 AM

I'll be there!

I made it to Oklahoma from Ohio before breaking(another) water pump/alternator tensioner mount. Limped it home 12hours, by myself, in silence yesterday with an in and out charging system and unable to apply more than 3/4 throttle.

I'm hoping on a cheap Frontier Airlines flight tomorrow.
I have a group A spot and no car to drive. Yay.

turbofan 09-03-2014 12:26 AM

Props. Jeff, I think you found your driver!

SchmoozerJoe 09-03-2014 01:15 AM

I can put your spot to use... that is... if that's an option.

EO2K 09-03-2014 01:38 AM

Seriously, put Doward/Dan in your car, don't let me near it.

The organizers seem to be somewhat OK with people moving slots around. I mean what are they going do, tell you to sit and spin after your car broke and you had to change plans? I've seen different people team drive the same car in different groups the last couple years. Just let the organizers know ahead of time.

I thought you were bringing the NA down for Friday? I'll shoot you a message here in a bit.

Jeffbucc 09-03-2014 02:46 AM

Well if EO2K knows Doward that is a good enough reference for me. I'll respond to your PM in a bit Doward.

EO2K 09-03-2014 10:10 AM

Haha, I don't know know him, I'm just saying anyone with a slot in A and a car full of aero probably has more business than I do hooning in someone else's car. I drive like my grandmother and it's been over a year since I've been on a track.

Lincoln Logs 09-03-2014 10:28 AM

Down to meet up, I'll pester ThePass about this too.

doward 09-04-2014 10:36 AM

I am in Vegas!
Are we for sure doing this breakfast? It would mean me getting a cheap motel tonight somewhere between here and there rather than just leaving hear early tomorrow morning.

EO2K 09-04-2014 10:49 AM

I wanted to ask the same last night but got distracted. Grats on making it to Vegas!

I'm a fat kid so I love me some breakfast, we all still on for 9am at the Black Bear in Monterey tomorrow? Solid headcount would make it easier to pick out a table for whomever gets there first (hint~hint)

18psi 09-04-2014 10:57 AM

Me and my buddy are a yes if everyone else is.

turbofan 09-04-2014 12:02 PM

I'll be there and I will likely have an outsider with me Lol

But I'll definitely be there. Staying in Salinas tonight.

Jeffbucc 09-04-2014 01:29 PM

I'll be there. I'm leaving late tonight and just going to time it to arrive there at 9am.

Not driving during the day with no AC.

Trying to psych myself up for driving 9 hours without my cruise control wired up yet.

Hold me

Ed thank you SO MUCH for offering me a spot to crash on the floor of your hotel room, saved me looking for a spot to pull off into to crash for the night hippy style.

Jeffbucc 09-04-2014 01:31 PM

Want me to show up a little early to reserve a table?

I'm roughly counting 9 or so of us?

I'll put the reservation under kittens & hairdressers.

EO2K 09-04-2014 02:18 PM

Where are you guys staying in Salinas and what time are you getting in? The place can get real scary at night, there are probably parts of town you don't want to see.

I will be there for breakfast for sure, possibly with Gesso if I we can get his ride straightened out.

doward 09-04-2014 06:09 PM

I booked a room at RedRoof right by the diner for tonight, passing through Bakersfield right now.

turbofan 09-04-2014 06:44 PM

Haven't booked the room yet.

Might need some help tonight, seems my fuel pump is going out after all. Hoping to still be able to make it without stopping to change it out.

18psi 09-04-2014 06:46 PM

so for sure the address is:

2450 Fremont st
Monterey, CA 93940

Correct?

turbofan 09-04-2014 10:08 PM

G! Where should we stay? I think it was a motel 6 or maybe a super 8 or something like that. Cheap for sure...

SchmoozerJoe 09-04-2014 11:21 PM

The Howard Johnson in Salinas is NICE! And pretty cheap for the area at $99 a night.

On John Street right off the 101...

turbofan 09-04-2014 11:46 PM

What about this place in Monterey? Americas best value inn. 1141 Fremont Boulevard seaside CA

Seems decent?

18psi 09-05-2014 12:01 AM

ayo ed, just got home, checked, nope don't have one sorry bud

I'll keep looking. its on the fuel pump asempbly right? the little fpr?

turbofan 09-05-2014 02:41 AM

Car seem to have fixed itself. Could a heatsoaked IAT sensor cause it to go lean and be weird? It ran great tonight. tried high boost, no issues. ????

gesso 09-05-2014 04:17 AM

EO2k and I spent around 12 hours working on the exo today. Not quite finished but done enough that I feel like I can head down in the morning and meet for breakfast. See you gays in a few hours!

doward 09-05-2014 12:00 PM

Jeffbucc and I are here. Table for 10.

gesso 09-05-2014 12:03 PM

EO2k and I are just headed over from Salinas.

kotomile 09-05-2014 12:25 PM

Welcome to Monterey gays.

Other good meatup spots if no one's let the secret out yet - Turn 12, and Baja Cantina.

Turn 12 - cool motorsports themed restaurant in downtown Monterey, so named because MRLS has 11 turns (get it?).

Baja Cantina - also a cool motorsports-themed restaurant, smaller but more remote out in Carmel so hopefully not packed.

Let me know if y'all are doing a thing.

Passengers are welcome.

kotomile 09-05-2014 05:47 PM

So what's up for dinner?

curly 09-05-2014 07:09 PM

Where is the mass bro-selfie??

EO2K 09-05-2014 09:10 PM

I gotta tell you, I've never seen so much wine and cheese in one place in my entire life.

Not sure we have dinner plans?

The stuff today was kinda lame, all sound and fury signifying nothing. Now my car is dirty as hell and I'm slightly sunburned.

But hey, I got to see the new ND drive by and listen to 18psi troll people IRL :giggle:

turbofan 09-05-2014 10:02 PM

I'm down for dinner and for a drive. Brake lights fixed and new fuel pump installed.

curly 09-06-2014 12:22 AM

I really want MT to represent by pulling into LSR sideways and at WOT.

Instead we have Ed.

18psi 09-06-2014 12:49 AM

It was seriously awesome to meet all you gehs today.

Jeff - love your car, look into that shifter, I thought it felt really loose and weird. Rest of the car is AMAZE-BALLS. Got a half chub driving it.
Ed - with some body work, little things here and there fixed, and about 5 gallons of Purple Power or Simple Green, your car is going to be awesome.
Geoff - we are meeting again and I am getting a ride in dat exocet. nuff said
Gordon - Dem vibrations doe. car's looking good as always
Doward- good to meet ya man.

Bout to pass out. Don't remember who I missed. Really awesome to meet all you guys.

I'll try to make it back out maybe sunday, but not sure at this point.

turbofan 09-06-2014 01:25 AM

Great to meet you guys too. Super huge bummer Jeff had to bounce tonight and won't be there tomorrow. Vlad you need to come back Sunday and chill/go for a drive or something.

Ye, my car still needs a TON of work. Which is really disheartening considering how much work I've put into it lately.

I like Gordon's car.

The record attempt was a lot more fun than I was expecting it to be. Glad I want in the end. But I kinda wish I had gone for a drive and fixed my car sooner.

Still pinging on high boost setting. F it. Low boost feels great and that's what I was going to run anyway.

Vlad has an epic DD.

Vlad's friend is extremely talented at introducing Jeff's car. Lulz.

My brakes spark under hard braking.

The park ranger kicked us out of the road at the main entrance of MRLS.

I think that's all.

I know, its to the point where its embarrassing. I think I finally figure out what the big rattle is under the front of the car, other than the hood. And thanks!

The man is an animal. I was hoping to get a ride in his car and let him drive mine, so we can make him spend more money on a shifter

^ This. Bring a helmet along and just ask people for rides.

Believe it or not, your car looks great everywhere other than that fender. Remember that when its your project, you know where all the mistakes and ugly spots are, the rest of us are totally distracted by all the win and awesome everywhere else. The car looks like you actually drive it, and that definitely counts for something. It's physically impossible to park next to Jeff and Vlad and not feel like you drive a shitbox, its all a matter of perspective.

Thanks! I never got to open the hood either, not that its that impressive. It'll be more fun with the turbo  I think I've decided dildo mounts gotta go doe.

This part was way more fun that I could have possibly imagined.

I too had a great time and it was great meeting everyone. I'll be back at the track probably early afternoon today to poke around and get a feeling for the flow of things for my run group on Sunday. As soon as I get my brakes done and oil changed anyway.

kotomile 09-06-2014 10:20 PM

If any of you got one of the grey polos, you likely met me. I'll be there again tomorrow, wearing the highlighter yellow staff shirt, working in between trolling for rides. :)

If you can manage to score a ride with Andrew, definitely go for it. Dude has balls of steel.
