Default another 91 greddy.. but its clean atleast :)

hey everyone. i got this 91 miata w/ stock greddy kit about 3 months ago now. I traded it for my 06 gsxr 600. Ive done almost all the maintenence now and ive been improving everything about the car. I got it with a decently low 123,000 miles, with no accidents, all original exterior parts, and great paint too.. all the mods done to the car are in my post.

When I got the car, I took it home and started off by cleaning everything.. underneath, the motor, the inside, etc.

here are some pics of the car, the day after I got it. I went to the junkyard and got all new charge pipes for it. pretty much a stock greddy kit, except i installed a 7mgte recirculating bov which helped transient boost response a ton.

Then did all the fluid changes. I have an AMSOIL acct so i filled up AMSOIL SYN everywhere. I found out that the car came with a 99+ 3.9 LSD, that made me alot happier knowing the car would last longer under boost..

Then took out some old evo 9 parts I had laying around, intercooler and hallman MBC..

dropped some cash on new konig flatouts

Sooner than later I had the car peaking 12psi, holding 10psi till redline. using my Zeitronix to monitor the fuel, and the Bipes ACU to pull timing.. The setup is awesome..also I did some cool mods from Flyin Miata.. Frame rails and front sway bar

Im mainly an Evo guy.. having built 3 evos and tuned about 20+ evos, i can carry my knowledge to the miata game, and im loving it.

HOPE YOU GUYS LIKE THE PICS ILL BE POSTING MORE AS TIME GOES ON..

Nice car you've got there. Looks well done. Thumbs up on your mods. Considering the rear was changed, I'll bet it already has a clutch too.

I like Megasquirt. It would let you drop that AFM and give you a lot more control of things (you could remove a lot of bandaids). However, not sure you would be able to keep the CARB exemption if you did that. Not a concern for me, thank goodness.

Ya. The car has an ACT HD kit. And it came with the bipes acu, base timing at 14. I have turned the base timing down to 12.. Feels really smooth. And I think ill be close to my power limit with a 2.5" dp and 3" custom exhaust. I would guestimate its making around 230whp on a local dynojet. I almost bought the megasquirt but I needed rims cuz the car had the 35mph and 65mph shimmy.. Intense shimmy due to some bent *** old rims.. And ya, retaining CARB legalness is what I kinda need to stick to.. Even tho I got no cat, but I gotta dog

200 if you've got a great tune, feels like more in a smaller car though, doesn't it?

17 clamps on the intake pipe though!

Ya. I used pipibg from the junkyard off a volvo turbo. Cut and cleaned them all for my set up. Cost me $30 in piping, and my stock evo 9 intercooler. ill be redesigning the intake
ith sonr silicone piping.

And I think I will make 230whp with the 3" exhaust. Ill be dynoing it soon. Its a strong motor with very good compression

the motor is not what we're skeptical about.
its the greddy kit and most importantly the bandaids its running on that make me skeptical youll make 230 like you think. unless this dynojet you're talking about is about 30hp optimistic.

Look at Braineaks car: same as yours except he's got MS, COPs, larger injectors, etc etc (which is FAR superior to your setup) and he made 230. We'll see though.

Larger injectors are completely useless unless they are being used. My 305s will be enough for a peak of 13psi, holding 11psi till redline.. I really the mitsubishi turbo, hits the same way my evo did, just with no awd.. Haha

Ill be posting dyno results soon, on the same dyno my evo 9 made 315hp/322tq @ 23psi, getting to 19psi at redline, intercooler & exhaust only.. another evo 8 put down 330whp/315tq with the same basic mods.

I have a decent idea of how the dynojet at yimisporttuning reads..

And honestly my fuel curve isnt that bad at all. Hitting 11.8:1 at peak boost, the dropping to 10.8:1 at redline. Not too much more to be made from fueling, maybe driveability, but not more than 15whp..

I also didnt make any adjustments to my rx7 afm. It idles at 14.7 perfectly with my setup. so the car drives very well..

And from my experience on denso COPs, is that they cant hang with the heat, atleast in my evo and my friends evo 8. 2 different kits, we had misfires on 110 race gas on the dyno at 28psi, we didnt touch the plugs, just went back to the stock waste spark ignition system, and no more misfiring. Just my experience..

Post a dyno for us when you can!

I need to get to the dyno myself. My spark map is still super conservative, although everything else is dialed in.

Honestly, 200-230HP with some attention paid to chassis makes a really nice driver. You can enjoy the car and not have to go down the "change everything" path. Mines a DD.

You talk like you know what the **** you're talking about when clearly you don't. Engines don't all make the same power. Not all power is equal, just like not all boost is equal etc etc etc.
Miata cannot in any way shape or form compare to a 4g63. Band aids have been proven to suck *** DECADES ago yet you think you're going to be the exception. Just about everyone and their mother has ditched the greddy kits and band aids by now lol.

You will soon see what we're talking about.
And I know all about Yimi's dyno: optimistic is almost an understatement.
Even if you do hit 230 it will be slower than other miata's making a true 230. Come down to sacramento and I'll gladly back up my statements.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate for the sake of hazing, I'm seriously trying to get you to wake up and smell the reality.

I REALLY like my WI. Running 10psi without an intercooler. I did put a lot of thought into automatic failsafes and monitoring mechanisms (including a quick way to do a leakdown check for nozzle clogging anytime I want). The MS is an integral part of what I did.

The system has been 100% reliable since installation. Kind of surprised by that -- I didn't expect it to be so trouble free. I use distilled water from Wal-Mart (84 cents per gallon). It's going to be getting cold soon, so I'll probably need to visit Home Depot for some alcohol and start mixing my own to prevent freezing.

I think there are a lot of advantages to using WI instead of an intercooler at moderate boost levels. Sometime around Christmas, I'll likely make a big, detailed post with my experiences to date.

Lol I know what im talking about. You just seem to be a hater, instead of being positive.

Obviously having full control over timing and fuel would get me more power.

Ok. So maybe ill be inbetween 200-230. thats fine with me. And I wasnt comparing the 1.6 miata motor to the 4g63, I was only stating that the power delivery feels the same bro. Take a chill pill

I was only comparing previous numbers my evo had done on that dyno. If I hit 218whp. Thats close enough to 230whp for me. A simple port and polish on the intake and exhaust manifold, ill clear 230whp no problem.

But I have yet to dyno the miata ! Lol so we'll see.

However, its not like dyno numbers really say that much in the end

Sick. Ya my intercooler was free, so ill be running it with WI. I will be doing direct port injection into each runner of the intake mani. I am installing a WI kit in an evo 9 I built the same way. 30psi for that big boy.. Hitting full boost at 3900rpm.. Cbrd full stupid fast turbo...

Port WI is cool (pun intended). Faeflora is the nozzle king. Lost count of how many nozzles he's running.

The hangup I had with port WI was how to tell if an individual nozzle clogs. In the end, I went KISS.
