This camera looks like it would suit my needs better. I don't need a screen, its cheaper, and more more stealth.

 

The quality on the 808 is fairly shitty. You dont see anything in the dark, does horribly in switching lights (shadows), etc. Long story short if u get hit, you wont see a license plate even on teh best quality. My main issue with it being used for a dash cam is that theres no auto on/over write feature.

 

Eh, I doubt I'll be looking for a license plate in an accident. Don't expect CSI-like quality from any dashcam. The mobius does support loop recording (auto-deletion/overwrite) and the light switching seems pretty good to me (not as good as my gopro3 black - but for 80? fuggitaboudit).

Watch the review - the older 808's, yeah, I can understand - but they spent some time making the mobius better.

 

If you're going to go with an 80some bucks cam why not spend the extra 10-15 bucks and go with the one Wes posted above?

 

I really want to get one of the Mobius cameras to put on my quadcopter... (prebuilt china deal... gotta play with it before I put more money in).

 

Thats teh main reason why i bought my 808. I bought it for my crawler though.

 

Was that the same one in the techmoan review because that one seemed to have good definition and good light/dark transitioning. And I think it has auto on/off when plugged into a car charger.

 

I'm not going to bother posting any YT videos... with the availability of 1080p with full GPS integration and decent night capability in the sub-$100 pricerange in the current small-form-factors, there is no reason to consider the DVR-XX7 series. At 720p, there just isn't enough resolution to make out license plates farther away than stopped-in-front-of-you-in-traffic. Facial recognition is plenty good enough at distances you'll need it, and the general recording is more than adequate. Still have yet to evaluate at night.

As I mentioned before, this industry is primed to explode, and the tech is going to undergo generations of improvements in very short timeframe.

If you wanna buy now, I think the Mini-0801 is a good bet for $$$vs.performance. You can certainly get a lot more for more money. Don't forget rear-facing (out the back window)... this is where a Mobius might make a lot of sense.

These cameras will only get smaller, more capable, better resolution, and cheaper... and I think it will happen rather quickly.
