Default Donut media turbo miata

I was watching the latest donut media video and had a good laugh. He's doing hotlaps on the track, has oil puking out of every seal on the motor and through the turbo CHRA, and out the dipstick. Instead of even attempting to diagnose he says he's "just going to keep running it". See any issues here?

The issue is extremely obvious and I had a good laugh. That's all. Video is here:

Saw the thumbnail, wondered what the **** could cost 17k. Skipped ahead and the first phrase i heard was "the CX racing kit to the car"...

What the hell?

Just about what you'd expect with thumbnails and titles like that. I can't bring myself to watch their videos.

The only thing I enjoy from them are car history videos, but I doubt any of those are actually accurate.

I think the 17 grand should be including the car.

The series is a friggin joke, they pretend to be educational then do **** like this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at least he used megasquirt and not a piggyback setup?
he points out later on that its the PCV system too, which is even funnier. The next video is likely going to be a 10-second segment of "oopsie" followed by a sponsored install of the Super Duper Catch Can 9000, make sure to use coupon code "peepee" so they get a cut of the revenue

Blocking the crankcase ventilation probably doesn't help.....

The thing that bothered me most on the turbo build is that they dropped the front subframe to drop the oil pan to put an oil drain bung in it...

I would not have posted a video where I said I had spent BIG money and went 3 seconds slower....
Insane.
However, the real performance here is the fact: 500K views in 1 DAY!!!!!
Dude is making bank by screwing up big time...
His performance is astonishing, his car not so much.

I just LOVE the serious oil leaks out of the FRONT of the valve cover.
There shouldn't be ANY oil there.
He will need to purchase a "special" oil resistant timing belt if he's gonna run it very long.
I'm betting something else will kill it first...

Ever notice how the bull ******** are extremely animated with the hand movements?
Scotty Kilmer and Chris Fix are very similar.
If you're jerking and jiving you're a wannabe...

yea they really have no clue how to build cars LOL. Ive watched all their miata videos and the series has gotten worse over time. Lately they have been short on content for the miata and just stretching the content so thin, a whole video just talking about fuel injectors? Yeaaaaaa

Also they had oil POURING from like EVERYWHERE. Ever notice how all their builds are a joke?

I'm gonna do some vids myself and I have been watching the highest viewed Vids now.
Scotty is an old joke.
Chris Fix is worse.
That puppy takes the cake however...

That's the first one I've seen and I will watch a few more as he is popular but...
I will NOT subscribe.
I will NOT like
I will not ring that bell...

I will learn.
I will plot.
I will become more animated (a bit).
I will target.
I will smoke...

I will not target you however, AndyFloyd, your stuff is pretty good.
I'm not aiming at "niche" cars at all.

Mr Beast is another I peruse. He's big on giving stuff AWAY.
I'm gonna give stuff away as well. That seems to work best...

Good luck man it's tough starting out small. Donut got started with money they didn't work from the ground up. Do you have a channel now? I'll check it out if so

Y'all don't REALLY think they actually spent a single dollar buying any of the stuff you see for the past 6 months or so.

I'm initially aiming for the Automotive AC world to help pull customer into my shop
Granbury Auto AC Repair - Car AC Repair Granbury, TX

I don't need to make money off my channel (which I don't have yet)

I'm aiming for the "appliance car world" SUVs, minivans, daily drivers.

I will try to be a "cross" between Scotty Kilmer and Ford Tech Makuloco (who is BADASSED when it come to Ford).
FTM is technical and NOT animated. He has 500k subscribers and his vids are good enough that I will NOT compete with him.
Anything Ford that I am not familiar with I check if he has a video on them and I watch because he is a Wizard...

Scotty has 3.8m and I agree with most of what he says but his "wrenching" vids are crap, multiple mistakes and missing info...
His historical vids are GREAT! Someone else is doing the research. Scotty's vids on the history of Mazda should be watched.
I learned stuff which is seriously rare for me...
I usually watch vids for a single "trick" or how to remove that one clip that you cannot see.

Scotty may be making 1M per year off his vids which I would like to have just 10% of his success in 4 years...

When I activate my channel it will be basic AC repair tricks that I will share on this forum.

Speaking of AC. I've put this envirosafe stuff you buy on amazon in 2 cars now and it blows cold as FRIG. I'm talking 40f discharge temps...
What are the disadvantages, AC system failure in 4 years? It seems too good to be true.

That looks like a drop in replacement for R134a???
Why change when 134 is still available CHEAP???
134a is "bad" now because Dupont's patent died in 2018.
It's the evil crap from the dark side now....
If you're fixing your stuff properly you should not leak.
NEVER EVER use anything with sealant.
I use R12, R134a and now R1234YF.
The "refrigerant is bad" crap was started by Dupont back in the early 90s.
R12 is sort of bad but not nearly as bad as it's made out to be.
R134a is not any worse than a hydrocarbon...

Best replacement for r12 is 80% propane 20% isobutane but this is extremely flammable...

The PAG oil in a R134a system really needs R134a to function properly.
It cost me $50 a pound to have poisoned refrigerant disposed of.
And I have to pull it out with a recovery machine that I cannot use for non-poisoned systems...
Total BS
I don't use any "replacement" refrigerants. Too many pitfalls
Any evidence of poisoning voids the warranties on my machines.
Any evidence of sealers does the same.

Make sure to tell a shop you have an alternate refrigerant in the car BEFORE they hook up to it.
Just hooking a machine up poisons it.
I have a 1K refrigerant identifier to test systems before I hook up...

The guys who do this for a living make LOTS of mistakes. They have to - they need content, and every moment that they aren't filming or editing is time they aren't generating revenue. So what if they do stuff poorly. They will just fix it in a later video.

I didn't dislike this series as much as you all - because at the very least it's another turbo Miata on the road (and not a piggyback). I did however groan at his choice of nearly every part and decision. It's as if nobody ever did this project before and he was figuring it out for himself. There is a HUGE community of Miata people out there doing this exact same thing. Not once did he look to the community. He didn't even contact DIYautotune who I am sure would have loved the exposure and helped a lot to make it a better experience.

Heck, he has Greg Peters not far from him and he didn't reach out.

I still enjoy it though. Because Turbomiata.

That's exactly the fuel mixture found in most fuel canisters for backpacking stoves. It's for deliberately burning to boil water.

I like the Donut podcasts, some of their history stuff and I really the presenter of the Miata series, but a lot of the things they do is just for the content. I'm sure they'll do a "built motor" now or even do a K-Swap series.

If I had the money that they have and the views I could make some SICK videos for the channel that me and two of my buddies run. A lot of the time I look at their editing and I think that our channel does it better but we get 700 views or something and they get 500k+. I know most small channels dont ever get big and Im ok with that. I just do it for fun and enjoy making the content. Let me know what you all would like to see and I can make it happen. Just hoping one day Ill wake up and Youtube Algo has picked up our channel and we are blowing up, lol a boy can dream.
