First (good) time at tail of the dragon. Snow+Rain.
So my friend/roommate just moved to Florida for a new job, and after a few months bought a 2010 Cayman S. We found a road rally on facebook, and decide to take it. It started near some Lake in Tennessee, went up to the dragon and back. ~210 miles. But when we got up on the skyway there was like 16 inches of snow, and after the road maintenance ended at the NC border, going any fruther with summer tires was going to be impossible. We decided to ditch the rally (as they decided just to go turn around and go back to the start), and continued on to the dragon. I'd gone before with friends, but it was super croweded and not fun.
This time, it was a ton of fun. Coming from SC, I enjoyed seeing all the snow. Lots of good picture opportunities. The Michelin Pilot Sports did wonderfully in the rain, and I enjoyed driving the dragon much more than in my Miata. Though, I think that is mostly due to the road being empty and not full of tourists. Driving my miata afterwards was definitely dissatisfying, turbo needs to go on asap. lol. Porsche actually does something when you push the gas metal! And is much quieter inside. And more comfortable. And doesn't leak water when it rains.
Some pictures from the drive that day:
Oh, and another friend met us there with his angry miata, because firestone refused to do a post control arm replacement alignment to anything but factory specs.
