Just picked up an old 280z

Parents surprised me with this the other day, after I had inquired about it for months... it's a 78' 280z (2.8 inline 6) supposed to generate 170hp at 5600 rpm, rust is minimal however the classic floor pan rust is evident on the passenger side. It's pretty fun to drive soo far. I need to get it tagged before I really drive it though.. The car has the ZG style nose on it which I like, the guy bought the nose hood and hatch at the same time 3 months ago for 1500 bux and then got them installed.. he let it sit for a month then I bought it from him for 750$ and I drove it home, the car is in really good shape it has on it already a 450 holley long tube headers that are true duals, the car just needs some lovin'.... and a new pass. floor pan. Anyways here it is, color is loud lol but it looks great to me!!!

That nose screams 911 slant nose to me. I like.

I want to get something old like that, with 4-doors, add a Miata engine and MegaSquirt, then make it my daily.

Very nice. Though I hate the paint job. Some sort of pearl dark gray or black would look titties

$750 is a steal. Great find!

That is awesome. Always loved the looks of those cars. Needs fender flares and deep dishes.

What a score...jeebus. I'd even rock that paint! I've never heard of a ZG nose, was that something that was an early aftermarket part for Z cars? Or was it originally a Japanese home market option?
Poked around a bit, didn't find those answers but found this...sick! http://www.dhk.janis.or.jp/~gtr/M240ZG/M240zg9.jpg Edit: Found this and thought I'd post it for anyone else who might be wondering... The Japan-only HS30-H Nissan Fairlady ZG was released in Japan in October 1971 to homologate the 240Z for Group 4 racing. Differences between the Fairlady ZG and an export market Datsun 240Z include an extended fiberglass ‘aero-dyna’ nose, wider over-fenders riveted to the body, a rear spoiler, acrylic glass headlight covers and fender mounted rear view mirrors. The Fairlady ZG was available in three colours: Grande Prix Red, Grande Prix White and Grande Prix Maroon. The "G" in Fairlady ZG stands for "Grande." Although the ZG was not sold in the USA and was never sold outside Japan, in order for it to be eligible for competition in the U.S., Nissan sold the nose kit as a dealer's option which is known as the "G-nose". With the nose added, these 240Zs are often referred to as 240ZGs, outside of Japan. |
Needs EFI and distributorless ignition to free up some power.
|
Hmm I thought the L28 was fuel injected? Anyway
Now you just add SR20, RB25(for Nissan purists) or the default for big power LSx. |
Sweet score! Always had a soft spot for older z-cars.
|
Just swap in the L28t(I think) from the 280zx turbo, I saw a swapped 240z at a local dyno day do 270 whp on the stock turbo. The guy had very little into the whole setup and it was really sweet.

My buddy has one with a turboed SB350 - insanely insane. 671rwhp.... and looks incredible too. Maybe I can dig a pic up for ya. Looks like another money pit to me!! Have fun... :bigtu:

I love the paint job.

I say do it that green all over. Fitting for a Z car. I envy you sir. I tried to get a Z car for a while before I got my Miata, but the few I actually found were in poor shape. I turned down a pretty nice 280 just up the road from me, but only because I couldn't talk him down $500. I kind of regret not throwing out the extra cash and getting it.

Needs moar RB26
|
Hha there is an rb25 sitting about 10 miles from my house in a buddies shop needs rebuild but still has engine tranny ecu wiring everything plus the install kit is about a grand ( drive shaft, engine+ trans mount, other odds an en I could be like 3k in and have one b.a. Z, however I'd like to keep it kinda stock no giant power adders
|
I just picked up a 78 280. I threw a 350 small block in it. We should keep in touch.
