Will watch as soon as I get home. Sub 5sec is just awesome. |
Looks nice, what's it trap in the quarter mile?

I just watched the video. What gears are you running?
According to the FM Gear Calc, 2d gear only goes to 52mph. You shifted into 3d after 5 seconds elapsed from your launch (1:14 to 1:19 in the video). So that means you weren't even going 60 yet and it had already been 5 seconds. If you are running different tires and/or gears, maybe you did it. But if not, there's no way. Is it a quick car, probably, but I think you are getting a bit over-confident if you think you can do 0-60 in 4.45 seconds. |
MSM owners are so optimistic, someone teach this guy how to drive and give me those 5 minutes back!
|
That doesnt look like 4.45 to 60.
|
TS: great car and looks good.
BUT I hate to piss in your cheerios, but there is no way in hell your car pulls off 4.45 0-60. That is awd launch sub 1.8 60' territory. |

I have another video where I did 0 to 100 in 11.5 seconds, 0 to 130mph in 19.3 seconds It was in the winter on a cold road & tires like 15 degrees outside, where I launched at part throttle in first & second gear for a 0-60 of 5.1. |

*edit* After watching the shot from the interior, you're moving forward about 1:30.5 at 4,000RPM, then begin to spin. You hit 60 dead on 1:36. That's 5.5 seconds, which is still fast. Also sounds and acts like he has 4:10s. |
In the gauge video I reved the engine 3 times & let the clutch out on the 3rd rev about 5500 rpms. 1st rev was about 3500 rpms 2nd rev was about 4500 rpms 3rd rev was about 5500 rpms when I let out the clutch.

2575lbs? is that with you in the car? fwiw- Tire spin is detrimental to acceleration.

Oh, so you're the one i've been watching on youtube. Very nice MSM.

i dont doubt you
this is awsome, i dont doubt your 0-60 speed, those dissers are just scared because they went out and bought a 60 to 80 thousand dollar ride and your little 25 thousand dollar ride is right up on their tails:giggle:. im a huge porsche fan but you get way more bang for your buck with a miata.

"instaban"... as in you want me "banned instantly". you should really be more clear and specific about what it is you are saying. These little cars are fun they last forever and you can beat the shit out of em. Parts are inexpensive and with a little work you can give pritty much anyone on the road a run for their money. how many European cars can you say that about... non, they are built to break down and hard to work on, not to mention the fact that mercedes, BMW, Auti, VW etc. are drastically over priced and most of them break down within the first few months of purchase. They are just status symbols, non of those companies have sold a vehicle that can function at its full potential for years they are all playing the consumers, especially in the US. If you want a car that can last and run at high performance go Japanese or even the newer GM cars, as much as i hate to say it GM is finally making good cars, its about time since they have been making computer chips for NASA for years GM is sitting on the most advanced computer technology in the world, surpassing even Japan and China.

Yo dawg, I herd you can get some of these Miata turbod. like from the factory. is that true? |
Regarding the thread. And not regarding Youtube comments stupidity, which has no place here.
Nice car. Going by the reliability of the Shurflo pumps from what I have seen online, upgrade to the newer gen pump when that dies. It's not exactly the most accurate measure, but from the guage shots it does look like a 0-60 in the mid 4s. But the real numbers are on a drag strip, 60 foot and 330 times. If you are hitting 100 in 10 seconds, then you are trapping at something in the 110-120 range which is good for a 12 second ET with a decent 60 foot. |

All right, settle down children.
miataroadster23, folks 'round here tend to get itchy when someone new shows up and immediately starts resurrecting old threads for no apparent purpose. They're a rowdy lot. You'll note that the last activity in this thread was in June of 2009, so you're just sort of being a thread necromancer here. Don't take it personally, you've just begun to experience the MiataTurbo hazing ritual. Roll with the punches and don't get defensive. It gets worse before it gets better. :D |
hahaha thanks man, it really doesent faze me in the least, ive been working on cars since i was 7 and ive learned that you can have way more fun with a miata than pritty much any other sports car. right now im running a 2001 miata roadster edition with a flyin miata hydra nemisis 2 and 3inch exaust, along with a few other up grades and a few personal tweeks to the computer system im pullin about 280rwhp and 12-13 psi. im a student at MIT and im just having a little fun.

Ahhh the infamous Miata Roadster Edition.....a gem to the real car collector, much like the US-market 1998 Special Edition Miata. I'd expect a MIT student to have slightly more proper typing/English as well. It's really cool you've been working on cars so long! There was a member on here that was also a 'young mechanic' and he has spent many years now developing all types of parts for Miatas now. If you do a search for "Hyper" you will find this guy. a/s/l? |

Thanks for stating the fucking obvious and the completely irrelevant tirade on european cars. How on earth do you put pants on in the morning? |

How on earth do you put pants on in the morning? well if you really need me to explain this highly complicated concept... i choose between sitting or standing, (usually standing). I then point my (right) foot and slide my (right) leg through the (right) pant leg, and then point my (left) foot and slide my (left) leg through the (left) pant leg. I then pull my pants up to about hip level and then pull them down about 3 inches to straighten my boxers, maybe add a small twist to acquire ultimate comfort... any other questions? |

It's OK in the lack of spelling and punctuation, I'm sure everyone at MIT is lazy about little details like that. Oh hey man, I'll be in Boston next weekend and I'd like to check out the ride since I've only seen one Miata Roadster Edition in person. I can meet you over by the school or around town.
sorry man i wish my ride was in Boston but my home town is Portland Oregon, and right now my ride is parked in my dads garage. If it was with me i totally would let you take it for a spin, get some feed back from a fellow enthusiast. I think i got some pictures i took right before i started making my mods, ill check when i get home. |

Mazdaspeed mx5 turbo 0-60 4.45 sec a video a friend made of my car. hey MSMjohn do you know how to double clutch? i couldn't tell if you were or not, but if you double clutch and keep high RPM's through the turn, you can keep your Turbo spooled up and get quicker acceleration out of those turns. |
thats the way to doit for sure, but then you have to worry about blowing the cam bearing out from all that high rpm abuse! just remember that these are good engines, but not F20Cs!
|
|
:bowrofl:
|
I am a student at MIT newb. I know I am the only one there or in boston that has a roadster edition miata. I call BS on you. I have a flyin miata hydra 3 and 4 inch exhaust and only make 270rwhp at 15psi so we all know youre lying.

maybe if you double clutch youw ill be ok.
Wait, how do you double clutch on up shifts? And why does that make you faster? I forget. I don't double clutch it might break your motor or the diff bushing. |

I hear that, but honestly with my cars I tend to run into problems with the chassis before the enignes give out. I have honestly never blown an intake or cam bearing. For me stuff like passenger-side floor pans seem to let go first. Weird I know, but hey, thats just how it is in this game.

you don't, double clutching is a downshift technique its used to keep rpm's high so that you can get faster, greater measurements of torque out of your engine when accelerating out of turns.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_clutch For downshifting you'd be talking about "heel - toeing" or "rev matching".... google it. |

Nah guys. Granny shifting (even with phase IV heel and toe technique) is not as effective. We might all live our loves 1/4 mile at a time, but personally I want my stuff to last a bit longer LolZ.
