Default Miata vs 5.0 & LS3

Went out to our local car meet tonight and ended up getting in some great races, so I figured I'd share. When I get there a guy who had recently picked up a 2011 5.0 Mustang was looking for people to race. We ended up lining up and getting in a couple runs. From a 10 roll and 20 roll respectively, his request. I put a few car lengths on him each time but they were decent races. Vids should be coming, didn't get them on my camera though.

After that I got a race set up with a 2011 C6 Vette, a car I've been dying to run a C6 forever. First run from a 20 roll, he pulled ahead slightly, I fought back, and inched ahead. It was close enough at the top of 5th that I threw 6th gear. I was a little more than a car length ahead when we both shut down as I approached the top of 6th.

Next run the corvette wanted a dig. With my crappy tires he jumped out about a length on me before I reeled him in and put about half a car on him. Same scenario as the first run, very close races.

There are in car videos for all races as well, hopefully they get uploaded soon. For now I've got a chase video of the vette runs.

Camera car is a 600whp GTO, which explains why you hear him have to keep backing off to keep from running us over.

Yeah, pretty much the same power as sig, but should be a little quicker than the 1/4 time.

I kinda f'ed up the dyno. On the first pull there was a dip in tq/hp which I thought was too much timing, I pulled timing and it got a lot worse. I've since advanced it so the issue should be corrected, just haven't gotten it back on another dyno.

Here's the pull:

I'd presume it would look something like this now, maybe hold power a little better up top b/c I added a couple degrees:

Are you still running the stock 10AE rear? I think it is a torsen with 3.90 gears if I'm not mistaken.

Flatshifting? I assume that's what the burst of black smoke is. Yeah- I'll mourn the day you or your car dies and these videos stop coming. I am amazed at how tight your races are- but I suppose you're looking for something that can compete.

Yes, stock rear with 3.90's. I'd love to go to a taller gear but it's just so expensive and tough to find.

No I wasn't flatshifting. When I came out to leave the house I had a flat tire. I swapped on my stock wheels and crappy tires so I was having some traction problems. I'm pretty sure the smoke was just from hitting the rev-limiter with spark cut and dumping fuel.

Hopefully she holds together a while, probably jinxing myself, but it's been daily driven, completely problem free for about a year now. Glad to hear people enjoy the videos. I usually just post the close, good races.

Here's a couple recents that weren't so close...

i would imagine if you pushed into the retarded speed range some of those cars would eventually catch you
this car doesn't seem to be to friendly on the aero & top speed area...

The stock gearing (3.90, 6speed) is so short that I've actually seen the opposite. Both races against the corvette ended in the ~140 range, at the top of my 6th gear. He would pull down low, I'd run him down and start walking away up top. If you watch the 2nd video, from a dig, you can tell I'm behind at ~13 seconds but ahead at +20 seconds.

In most lightweight vs heavy car circumstances, or with longer gears, I would absolutely agree with you though. My old stripped (sub 2000lb), 4.10, 5 speed, NA miata would absolutely murder people at low speeds and then get freight-trained up top.

I know exactly what you're talking about with the low gearing. My car has 4.30 gears in it. This video is me racing an automatic LS1 trans Am. I pulled on this guy real bad leaving the line, and had him till about 4th gear. He reeled me in and caught me, then had me by a car at the line. The camera man stood at the line and my other friend started us off with a flashlight at the start line. The race doesn't start till like 20 seconds.

If you get reeled in at the end that means you lost. Just took the other car a while to get you.
The whole "I had you til 4th" or whatever the hell that saying is, is bullshit.

I found out the hard way that a 520whp k swapped 35r turbo civic just takes a long *** time to spool and hook on the street.
Ran one like 2 times from a 40 to 100 roll and had him. thought I was so ******* fast.

then we went past 100 once and he just fucked me with no lube. it was bad, real bad.

glad your experiences at high speeds are better than mine though pdexta
