Damn, 10ae curse!

Sucks man, I see you said foreseeing an NA in your future. As someone who always wanted an NB what do you think about the differences between the chassis and why would you go back to an NA?

Sad face, but glad you're ok. Thank goodness you didn't roll, it looks like you did some nasty sideways sliding the way you ended up on the sidewalk like that. I'm not exactly local but I have a 1.6 diff, halfshafts, and driveshaft if you really want to get one swapped in before Mr. Insurance says hello.

You have reported both of your bad backs to your doctors, right? And you are using a hire car free of charge (unless you're too sore to drive, in which case you have a taxi on permanent stand-by)? And you have kept a note of any other costs?

Ouch! Cars are replaceable, glad you were able to walk away from it.

Looks like it was a good looking 10ae. I just hope your back/neck didn't take too much damage.

As someone who genuinely has permanent back damage that I think can be attributed to a major car accident early in life, I do encourage you to see a doctor and consider trying to find a reasonably reputable personal injury attorney to talk with. If nothing else, it's just to have some sort of documentation on hand.

I didn't really notice the lasting damage to my back at first because of the airbag rash on my face and general soreness. Glad to hear the car held up well considering the type of accident.

Glad you walked away from it.

You did not mention anything about your head. Did you avoid the rollbar?

My head didn't hit rollbar.

2 days after the accident and I'm definitely more hurt and banged up from removing parts from the car than I am from the crash.

I didn't get the other driver's information from the crash (like an idiot), the cops were trying to keep us apart and it just totally slipped my mind at the time. So I'm stuck waiting until the police report is filed before the other driver's insurance can do anything. I think the guy was driving his mother-in-law's car, so I'm nervous that the insurance will try to say he isn't covered. I'll keep you guys updated as it plays out.

Some guys will do ANYTHING to avoid being lapped at a track day.

Man, I ******* hate this for you. You had a sweet ride built there.

Miatas are incredibly stout.

So, how much did the rollbar help in the side impact vs. the natural strength of the car?

Glad you're "OK."

Got a call from the insurance guy today saying they wanted to pick up my car for appraisal. Asked if they could do it at my house since I was interested in buying it back. The guy told me they couldn't do it, they had to tow it to their lot in Palmetto FL (~100 miles away) where they did all of their "total loss" claims.

This is where I'm glad I got some input from you guys and a few others. I told him I wasn't comfortable with my property being taken away with no gaurantee of compensation and would really appreciate them coming to look at it. After a few more minutes of convincing, the guy said he would "check into it and see if they could do anything". About 5 minutes later he called and said they'd send out an appraiser tomorrow. Small victory, but at least she's staying home for now.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely planning to grab it.

Sixshooter, I haven't canceled Sebring yet. I've still got about a month and I actually like the idea of taking a stock powered car. Just have to find one that isn't destroyed or way overpriced. Hopefully it'll work out.

Small victory indeed but a very important one. Also a very important lesson that when some jerkoff tells you they "can't" do something, usually its bot because they can't, but prefer not to.

Glad you stood your ground.

Just the threat of having an attorney involved will (at least should) make them think what they do and say, and you should probably get one involved to protect you - unless you settle for what they offer you. Attorneys are hella lot more expensive in court than a totaled miata. I bet you could keep the miata AND get your money with attorney threats. This is an very inconvienent thing for you and you could have been seriously hurt, if not killed... why should you have to 'settle' for what they say?

After hearing about what Proggresive did in court AGAINST one of their own dead clients, it'd be looking for a different provider, but that doesn't change your predicament. LINK

Sorry to see that - it'd make the perfect track-only car, hint hint.
