I did this with State Farm; no issues.

In fact, the adjuster actually suggested we find reciepts for things like the shocks and roll bar and turbo and such to increase to value. They only accepted the rollbar when all was said an done, but they paid out something like $4500 for my 93 with 80K, and I kept it for $1000. So I was given a clean "repair title" on the car and $3500 cash.

Even with the upgrades I did when putting together the current '91, I ended up with cash in my pocket at the end of the day.

It was a simple and painless process with my insurance.

Sorry to see this, glad you guys are ok. I can't count how many times this has almost happened to me down here.

Also, seriously considering switching from Progressive now.

hornetball 09-06-2012 09:46 PM

USAA FTW (assuming you can qualify).

leatherface24 09-06-2012 10:41 PM

Glad you and the bf are ok

TorqueZombie 09-07-2012 02:08 AM

+1 for USAA if ya can. Progressive screwed me in the past. However, I believe USAA outsources for motorcycle insurance to Progressive. Not 100% on that though

I dont understand why the insurance company even has the right to take your property after a total loss pay out. Its not their property. Why do you have to hand it over?

If it was me, I would take out all the parts and leave a hollow shell seeing as how they do not pay for non stock parts, why should they have to come with the car.

Just wait until they stuff a sensor in your ass :fael:

State farm has also been garbage in my experience.

I have to get one of those. My neighbor put it on his truck, which he rarely drives, and after 6 months (and driving it 5-10 times) his rate was cut in half or something.

As long as they don't make me put one on the Miata. That would NOT help my rate. But one for the Lincoln winter car would be awesome.

Fireindc 09-07-2012 04:54 PM

A sensor, as in GPS including speed, etc? Even in my beater Integra I would be charged out the ass. Screw that.

thenuge26 09-07-2012 04:57 PM

If you beat on your beater, then it obviously wont help. But if you have a 200,000 mile Lincoln Land Yacht with rear wheel drive that you only drive in the winter like me, it might.

Many years back Progressive went to a local (100 Miles away) drag strip and photographed licence plate numbers of cars racing on a TRACK and then sent out letters and dropped these people from the company. One of the guys dropped actually worked for Progressive. Insurance companys can do crazy shit. Tags come off my car when I go to the track.

And who the hell cares?

Is there not HUNDREDS of the damn companies competing for you business? Around here there is. If someone dropped me I'd mail them a diarrheal turd and just go to the next company which offers same services for same price.
Kinda funny when people are afraid of "getting dropped" by the company like they're employing you rather than you employing them. Fuck em

Try explaining to the new company why you left the old one, they will want to know.

The guy told me they couldn't do it, they had to tow it to their lot in Palmetto FL (~100 miles away) where they did all of their "total loss" claims.

This is where I'm glad I got some input from you guys and a few others. I told him I wasn't comfortable with my property being taken away with no gaurantee of compensation and would really appreciate them coming to look at it. After a few more minutes of convincing, the guy said he would "check into it and see if they could do anything". About 5 minutes later he called and said they'd send out an appraiser tomorrow. Small victory, but at least she's staying home for now

Good job -- and it's a HUGE victory. You now have power over them, where if they take the car, you are much more helpless against their low ball offer.

What the FUCK are you talking about?

Holy crap, VA must be on a different continent from the rest of the USA.

triple88a 09-08-2012 02:41 AM

Indeed makes no sense why the new company would care. Again the company is working for you, you dont work for them. If they dont want my money, no problem i'll give them to someone else.

Being dropped from an insurance company would make sense if i was to get in an accident and they dont want to pay for stuff so they drop me but as far as i know thats illegal for them to do during a case.
