Oh how many times I have said that...

I guess it's time for an update, I was pretty upset for a good bit and decided to back off on posting until I saw exactly where this would ended up. The adjuster was scheduled to come out Wednesday "between 12 and 5", I went into work early and left at 11:30 so I could make it home. At 11:45 I get a call from my girlfriend, who was at home, saying the adjuster was there looking at the car.

When I made it home the lady told me she was done and that they appraised the car at $5000. I expressed my extreme concern over this and she said I would have to take it up with my case manager. I spoke with the case manager and he told me to document local selling prices for similar vehicles and send him a report. He also commented that on a "fair, good, very good, excellent" scale, the adjuster had maked every single thing as "good" and made no comments on the car.

I wrote a 3 page essay; explaining my concerns, documenting 10AE selling prices, running a statistical analysis on craigslist, ebay, and autotrader prices, and expressing that I did not feel "good" was a accurate representation of my cars condition, as well as sending about 20 recent pictures.

The next day the guy called me back and said they would send the same adjuster back out to look at the car again. She called to set up a time and I explained that I was not able to miss work again and she agreed to come out at 7am to assess the car. I was terrified she'd be pissed off and try document every single tiny flaw in order to rate the car even lower, but she was very polite, and this time very thorough. She even explained to me that she "just put down 'good' for everything because if she does that they do not require her to take any pictures or make any comments", yikes.

After actually appraising the car based on it's condition the value came out at $7100. I felt like this was reasonable for a 10AE with 148k on it, even if it is in very good condition. I have an option to buy the car back for $1500, but after pulling off all of my aftermarket parts I'm ready to have the car gone and out of my life. The last thing I really want from the car is the head and I shouldn't have any trouble picking one up for significantly less than $1500.

I feel like my problems were caused exclusively by my adjuster's initial laziness and that Progressive as a company handled the situation as honestly, politely, and reasonably as they could have. I'm certainly not happy to have my car destroyed, but I think in the end I'll be able to come out of this situation where I started, or maybe even a little bit ahead.

Glad you didn't take their BS - sounds like you made it ok in the end. Hey - at least your $500 towards go-fast goodies for your NA you just bought. Thanks for the MSPNP - you can bet it'll be put to good use.

I'm not surprised they take the initial adjustment out of their behind. I wouldnt be surprised if "good" condition is normal bs they use. After all you didnt sit down for their bs, other people do. If they can get away with screwing bunch of people, the ones that speak up arent going to be many.

$7.1k for a 150k mile 10AE sounds reasonable to me, assuming you keep all the turbo stuffs.

I don't know if the adjuster is lazy, or if most people just roll over and take what the insurance company offers.


If the front lip is still good on your car, I'd like it. Mine has a crack in it.

Friend of my family is an insurance underwriter, his advice is never accept the initial settlement check from an insurance company.

Keep it locked in a garage. Get all your aftermarket stuff off it, and as long as it looks like it will run they cant say a damn thing. :party:

$7100 for a 10AE is pretty reasonable. Mileage on Miatas doesn't really matter as long as it's somewhere between 60 and 300k.
