Playing w/ some f bodies, in a cute lil miata
I'm not 100% sure how you guys feel about "street racing", hopefully this doesn't get me banished from the community. It's a backroad that goes to nowhere, that's way out in the middle of nowhere, w/ no intersections for a good 1/2 mile or so. Plus, I just loved the video and couldn't resist posting it. </disclaimer>
Anyway, I was hanging out with some friends earlier today, taking some pictures and getting some videos. A couple of the f body guys decide they want to run each other. Camaro vs Firebird, should make for a good race. They run, Camaro takes the win.
Someone decides it would be cool if I start ahead of the LS1s with the camera mounted on my rollbar facing backwards to tape the race. They were concerned that I might get in the way though, so we decided to do a test run w/ me against the Firebird to see how big of a head start I would need in order to safely tape the race...
Well, after that we kinda forgot about mounting the camera on my rollbar, just sit back and enjoy the video.

Those were the byproduct of begi's kit not fitting correctly and my horrible fabrication skills. The cold air box/intake won't fit with the driver's side headlight so made a trip to the junkyard, hacked away at the lights, and that's what I ended up with. I robbed the headlights and harnesses off a 3rd gen Camaro, spliced them into my harness and squeezed them down with the barn doors as well as I could. I don't think it will be a permanent solution but it's good enough to get by for now.

Did them F bodies have any work to them other than exhaust?

I'm on 9 pounds, but I've done a lot of weight reduction, probably ~200lbs, which seems to help a good bit.
I was able to jump out off the launch and from low speed rolls. The camaro would start pulling me back as speed increased. There is an in-car camera that should be online soon hopefully. I haven't seen the video, but the camera owner said it was about even until I shifted to 5th and the camaro started pulling. So with 4.10s and a 5 speed that's ~116 I guess.
The Camaro is an auto and just has a lid, which is apparently good for 5-10hp. The Firebird is a 6 speed and... you guys are gonna love this... is making 440whp. I ran him a couple times from a roll and he destroyed me. He just couldn't get traction from a dig. It's a 17 year old kid so he hasn't been driving too long I guess. He's probably doing a lot better than I would have done w/ that car at his age.

Here's the in-car video, looks like he caught me toward the end of 4th:
The camaro driver is being a total bitch on our local forum, telling everyone he caught me by 80 and saying:
"Want to do another dig run again? This time no passenger for me, and I will be at my 1/8th tank race weight. I will also not sleep off the line, and try not to spin as much.
I am sorry I have nothing invested into my car except the purchase of it, and you have a ton of money dropped into that turbo setup. Let me put 5,000 worth of mods on my car, gut it, and we can race again."

Haha hes a douche. Gives camaro owners a bad name.
that guy got outdrove plain and simple.
Looks like ti would have at least been close out of the hole had he tried to brake stall it atleast, and not slept, but he didnt and you got the wholeshot/outdrove him, and from the looks of it you kept the lead til the 1/8th mile and probably the quarter.
What ever happened to yah you got me, ill mod and we'll race again.
From my perspective he got beat, cause who cares how fast your car is if you cant drive it. Im mean seriously, put me behind the wheel of a 1k hp car and Id make it perform like a 500hp car haha.
With some bolt ons a 4400 stall and some gears that car has potential to be nasty though. Too bad its crippled by its driver

I think it would have been really really close through the 1/4 and he definitely walked me after that. I just don't understand the need for all the excuses. Maybe I'd feel different if my LS1 camaro got smacked around by a '90 miata though.
