Running around in the white run group. I ran in to the rev limiter in 5th gear on the front straight, i think its time for some 3.9's in the diff.

Also cold RA1's have very little grip

Very nice.....I've yet to run TWS.
But Dad frequents that track often with the Maverick PCA guys.
If you are ever there and there is a Silver Noble m400 running around, stop by and introduce yourself.
Cheers to the Hill country

Very nice. Nice save when it got goosey. That's a fast track. Looks like a lot of fun. What go fast parts are you running?

I'm considering 3.9's or 3.63's myself too although we don't have any tracks that fast around here. I just like the idea of lower revs on the freeway.

TWS is a really fun track, its a shame it doesnt get run in the clockwise direction as often as they run counterclockwise. I'd been over a year since I'd ran it in this direction and that was in the rain and i was a noobie student. You can see my cautiousness into a few corners. I think i was the fastest car in the advanced group that wasnt a 911 turbo or corvette.

I'm running a slightly modified version of everyone's favorite FFS Supercharger . It consists of .020 over Wisecos, Belfab rods, 1mm over valves and a valve job. Then bolt on the FFS kit, 5th injector, PCPRO, 315cc/min injectors, and an AEM WI. Add in a 1.6 Fidanza fw and clutchnet clutch, ebay header and muffler, and a RB 'race' midpipe and head to the track. Havent had a chance to dyno it yet, last dyno day conflicted w/ a track weekend, but the AFR is nice and safe. It's only running 10psi atm, but I'm weary about swapping to a larger pulley, as the power is adequate for now .

I have seen that beautiful silver M400, is it the same one that backed into a tirewall a little over a year ago?

While supers weren't my choice in how to go, I've got no problem with them. Problem with FFS is most buyers don't A. have any idea what they are doing and B. don't bother with a wideband gauge. As long as you know your AFR's you should be OK. 10psi is as far as I would think you could go without an intercooler and larger injectors. Likely you'd want better engine management too.

Taken any weight out of it? Curious if it's a track toy or DD car.

I agree that there are alot of people out there that dont know what they are doing or getting themselves into when going FI in general.

Car is currently 2530lb with me in it, 2380lb no driver. They happen to have a set of scales at the track last weekend. Its a full leather package interior, nothing taken out except the soft top. I have added a roll bar, hardtop, and a hitch, plus all the go faster bits. I'm fnally getting around to getting brackets made for my race seats so that should drop the weight a little, i may pull the rubber/sound deadening mats from under the carpets. I doubt i'll pull the ac, but the stereo may get pulled.

This was a DD through college, but its getting to be more of a track toy. Once the new suspension goes in the only public roads itll see will lead to a track.

Nope, not that one, thank god.
However, we had a good off at MSR this weekend when we slung a pad before Little bend and went straight off w/o brakes at 110mph.
That tire wall came up quick, but let us of easy and kept its distance.

I've done a lot of scary HPDE track days at Hallett, sometimes its like a circus. They're like a knife fight, but fun. I've done two PCA events and I don't really care to do another one because I was actually afraid of contact from other vehicles. I've never seen so many cars dirt-surf at triple-digit speeds. I mean seriously, how the **** do they all lose it that bad?

Mainly two reasons.....
Driving over their heads because they can;
and
Driving 10/10ths and trying that "new" technique when you shouldn't be.
In DE's, the first reason accounts for most of the "offroading" adventures.
Hell, I almost had a grass ride....came into Big Bend at 90mph and gave the little brake for the front to set, went to turn in like normal, and "holy **** grips not there" moment.....car immediately was 10ft. off the mark and tracked straight for the grass.
Backed off throttle a bit and prepared for get off but slowly got it turned in the marbles with inches to spare and only lost 30mph. HA!

Tann3r,

That's impressive with no real weight reductions. You must be making really good power to top out 5th. Our cars aren't very aerodynamic. My car's a heavy pig too. I've got the C package with power everything, AC and cruise. It's my DD car even with the tein RA's and 9/6 springs. Can't give up any of the comforts I still have.

How much weight can you lose with seats and sound deadening gone? It can't be more than 30 lbs can it? Also the sound deadening is low in the car and in the center, it doesn't hurt as much as weight higher up and farther out. Headlamps and motors would be a good example of better weight to lose.

Some day I'm going to have to make an epic road trip down through CA and across to TX to hit a bunch of tracks. Early retirement is sounding better all the time. My wife even likes the idea. She thinks I should get into racing historics when we quit the rat race.

I love all the offs at track days. As long as no one is hurt. People are idiots and ego maniacs. I've seen guys with no track experience whatsoever sign up for advanced or intermediate groups because they've got a fast car and think they can drive. It's easy to spot them. They are prancing around the paddock in their Ferrari jacket with the sponsor patches on them or wearing a brand new driving fire suit but are driving a fully loaded daily driver Porsche Turbo. It's easy to spot them on the track too. They are the ones fully at the outside of the track at the corner apex and not moving over or slowing to let faster cars by.

I had my own troubles early on and I'm sure I will have more. When you are pushing limits you will always cross limits eventually. The dummies are the ones that don't realize this and have no idea what to do when it happens. Out of maybe a dozen events I've done there is only one I can remember where nothing too exciting happened. There is always someone off with some damage or spectacular spins or motor blowing up. Again, fun to watch as long as no one is hurt and it isn't me. Is that so wrong?

Ya the car is pretty peppy, I am really curious how much its putting down.

I think replacing both seat will drop about 50 lbs. I'll weigh both once the brackets are made. I'm in a NB so gutting the headlights doesnt save much weight, I'm not sure where to start cause i really dont want to tear into the interior.

I agree its good to find the limit, sometimes you find your way back sometimes you dont. I've had my fare share of spins and offs and its all part of the learning process.

You guys should try racing motorcycles at these same tracks (TWS, MSR). The offs are even more dramatic

<- That avitar is me exiting Rattlesnake and entering Wagon Wheel going counterclockwise at MSR.

NB. Headlights. Duh...

I'd love to know what the difference in weight is between a typical race seat and the stockers. Let us know!

That takes some serious "cajones"....and yes, the offs are way more dramatic.
I always wondered where that pic for the avy was from.
I skiied for over 28 years and patroled for Copper and Cooper Mtn. in Colorado for last ten. Spent my younger years jumping off cliffs, but snow is a little more forgiving. (sometimes)
32 broken bones later, I am content to stay in the car for now.

I've had two offs in 50+ hours of track time...I do little steps to the edge so I can drive it home.

The old VW track days scared me when literally half the field went home on a trailer.

I'd love to try track days on my bike (sv650s), but I lack the gigantic steel ***** required to do so. Is enough fun in a car, i could not imagine flying around there on a bike.

I'll be sure to report back with the seat weights, hope to have it all done next week. hopefully before the weekend so i can sneak out to the track again.
