Default Testing out our new gopro3

The rollbar mount was disappointing, so I opted for the rook mount this time.

Quality on the computer is superb, but its not coming out as good once upload online. Not sure if I'm missing a step or not...

VASH! You are driving like a mad man, I love it.

As for the video, any way to do a remote mic in the engine bay or something? That would fix the wind noise, which was my only complaint.

Nice Kobelco. Does that belong to you guys or one of the other companies in the complex?

Youturd cuts down the quality of all of the uploaded videos to save them bandwidth. You just have to live with that or find a better service.

Also to get perfect sound, I pulled the microphone off a gaming headset, and then drilled a hole in the waterproof housing and then ran the microphone into my cabin. Cover it with a little foam and you don't get any wind noise and nice clear audio.

Props - good info.

Any other sources for good external mics? I'd rather not hack up a gaming head set

Here is a cheap headset from bestbuy you could mangle. Plus it is noise canceling so you don't need to mess with it. Super easy to disassemble the headset and pull the microphone portion out.

I like this mic. I need to get my hands on one. "Quinn" on here has taken some awesome videos using it.

remote mics are mandatory - at least for engine/exhaust, it appears that burning rubber doesn't need it.

edit: that video rocks ^ Is there compressor surge, or is that all bov?

That is a fun video. Regarding the sound, I would bet that he has a TiAL BOV.

Looks like I'll be getting an external mic for my upcoming gopro. How is the 3 Vash? Worth going for it vs an older model? The video concealer posted mentions he used a gen 2 and it looks decent.

I have a Hero3 and it's worth getting over the older versions even if only for ease of use. I trigger ours on using the GoPro app on my phone. Can also preview video on the phone as it's being taken, so it's easy to get everything situated where you need it.

The only remote capability for the Hero2 is some remote add on that's pretty clunky.

This all said... there are other companies/cameras that are catching up to the GoPro VERY quickly and i somewhat doubt that my next action cam purchase will be a GoPro.

The nabi, once on the youtubes looks the same as the gobros and there's less wind noise. Turn all mine on at once with the remote, but to turn them on and off totally you have to remove them from the case and slide the switch minor annoyance, but the battery life is so much better than the gobro that its no big deal to leave it running with the wifi on and just let it go to standby between uses. I'm going to be uploading some fresh stuff in a little bit and will link.

I am using Drift cameras. They were much cheaper than the Hero3, so we were able to buy several. They all start with a single remote button. No streaming to cell phone, but each does have a working LCD display with video preview.

To note -- the batteries that were included were awful. At least half were dead, straight out of the box. Drift replaced the batteries at no cost. All but 1 of the replacement batteries was good. We then bought more batteries and the plugs to power the cameras off the car. So the batteries sucked, but the cameras are decent and were only $50/ea.

I've been giving this some thought too. Most of my (limited) video production experience is in filming my band's shows (
), which involves multiple GoPros for video and a
Tascam DR-40 Tascam DR-40
for a nice clean audio signal. Everything gets synced up later in Final Cut.

Now that I'm filming my autocrosses, I quickly found that I need better sound (
). I was thinking of mounting the DR-40 in the passenger cabin, but was curious where people have found they get the best sound. Would just mounting it to a suction cup on the windshield, pointing downward at the dash/engine bay do the job? I guess I need to get out and experiment with a few different options, but if anyone has had success with any particular mic placements, I'd like to hear about it.

What is the typical autocross speed range? How slow is the slowest turn vs how fast on the fastest strait?

Every course is different, normally the slowest you'll see is 35 and the fastest, well that depends on the car, but top of 2nd and using the limiter is pretty normal, so low 70's in a 250ish hp handling monster like my car but on that first one I linked vettes on world challenge takeoffs were hitting low 80's which is too fast.

I ask because with the 6 speed and 4.3 ring and pinion 3rd gear can do 30 to almost 70 and not be on the rev limiter, or bogging down at 30. Anybody run this combination in autocross?
