Actually the pics are kind of crappy, but I wanted to again show hustler what he didn't get. The sun was actually already setting and it was getting dark. Ti car is dopplebadgerdrifter's FMII 02SE/AE/MSM/GV hybrid mutt.

We'll see if this will solicit some sort of response involving top shelf punani, aged brie, and an expensive wine collection.

needs moar facelift bumper ben!!

but it is very hot. are you considering GV lip spoilers or somethin?

patsmx5 02-23-2009 09:24 PM

Ugly heavy wheels, ugly headlights, small IC, ugly tupperware package, ugly taillights, and inferior duals. What a piece.

drool.

kotomile 02-23-2009 09:30 PM

LOL at the wine-n-cheese comment Ben! Worry not though, you probably don't have enough interior chrome to be considered a wine-n-cheeser. :)

Ben 02-23-2009 09:32 PM

I do <cox>rrhheeehheeaallllyy</cox> like the AE's sport pkg front bumper treatment with the projector lamps, but at the same time am pending semi-immediate aquisition of a NB2 front skin and MSM lower lip. Have also a pending deal on a MSM headlamp swap, but am waffling on if I want to keep my bright lamps or not. Fritch's lamps always looked kinda dark against his AE. Dopple's got MSM lamps in the top pic, which look graet complimenting his black wheels. Hmm.

patsmx5 02-23-2009 09:41 PM

I think that bumper that's on the AE looks better than any other bumper. Hell no to the MSM bumper, that looks like a body kit that glues to the old bumper.

If you keep the bumper that's on it, I'd keep the lights you have as they look good and match the rest of the car. Not sure it would look any better with black lights. I would debadge it though. Doppleberry's car in the background looks like a miata with an oversize front bumper that was painted without painting the rest of the car. Too wide, too low, and sticks out too much. Ruins the car IMO.

kotomile 02-23-2009 09:42 PM

I don't like the MSM lower bumper lip. Looks like the car has a self-righteous grin...

Stein 02-23-2009 09:47 PM

Nice car, but I wouldn't pay a cent more than $7,500.01 for it.:giggle:

Possible deal of the century there.

Here's Mike's car. The GV bumper is not my personal taste, but I do think it's pretty cool. I think he pulls the look off with the large side skirts complementing. FWIW, pictures like that make me want to figure out HTF I use my camera. Dopple knows how to work the settings to get bad ass pictures and as you can tell from my pics, I just leave that shit on automatic.

Of all the stock NB2 covers (standard, tupperware, MSM) I think the MSM is the best look. They all start out with the standard bumper, but add a different lower lip*. Yes, it sticks on. There is an orange MSM with the TDR splitter locally to me that gives me funny feelings in my pants. The "grin" you speak of Matt is really a function of the NB2 front bumper cover.

*The MSM actually does have a different part number for the front bumper cover. The difference is just pre-drilled mounting points for the stock intercooler. A lot more expensive, but really not a big deal.

patsmx5 02-23-2009 10:00 PM

If the MSM bumper was like the on in the pic above, but no black lip and that bottom piece was just part of the bumper, not a piece that appears to be glued onit would look ok. But to me adding pieces that are obviously glued on doesn't make a car look any better. IMO anyways. Like side skirts. The little curve thing going on in the actual steel of the car down below the door looks sick. If you backup and follow the body lines they work. Gluing a big piece of plastic below it that sticks out, not so much. Look at the top half of the car. Everything's round and smooth/curvy. Then look at the bottom. Lines, angles, joints, pieces glued to the car. Looks like one crew of engineers designed the top and another crew designed the bottom, and they stuck two halves together and said 'holy shit... get the paint out!'

y8s 02-23-2009 10:16 PM

I blacked my headlights like the MSM. It was a no brainer on a black car.

http://gallery.y8s.com/d/775-4/DSC01753.jpg

I've always liked the front end without any extras. the lip is it. I *had* a GV lip for a while, but never installed or painted it.

cjernigan 02-23-2009 10:38 PM

I like my front the way it is. I wouldn't mind a TDR splitter or something similar though.

I like this too, but I already hit every-fucking-thing with just the sport lip. I'd imagine the baller TDR splitter even lower and further forward would suffer the same fate as my BEGi scooper in short order.

Doppelgänger 02-25-2009 12:11 AM

Thanks Ben :)

Too bad I didn't get any pics to show the justice of how clean your car actually got, maybe i'll come over later this week and snap a few for you. Next, we'll work on cleaning your engine bay :giggle:

How did you get the '01 lamps to fit the '99 bumper without gaps. I was looking at 99 vs. '01+ headlights side by side today and they are different at the corner.

One of our local guys has a debadged lava orange with the MSM splitter. Car looks great!

Zaphod 02-25-2009 07:49 AM

This is both '01 - headlights and bumper. (Oh well - and car)

Yeah, they did look dark on his 10AE, darker in person. Good 'ole Cody(Fritch). RIP my friend. The 1 yr anniversary of his passing was this past Dec.

Ben has the '99 bumper with '01 lights. Compare it to the pic of the TDR splitter on the red '99.

I'm down for Saturday. :) Do you think Jenn would castrate one of us (or both) if her SSRs kind of made it over to my car? I'm just kidding of course; I don't want to cause trouble, but I bet it would look good.

BTW, Saturday afternoon/evening I'm celebrating at my house. Got a cool promotion at work. Probably going to get some prime ribeyes and what not. You should be there.

Doppelgänger 02-25-2009 06:52 PM

hmmm...sounds like a plan. I know of some Enkeis that could make their way over to your car....

Ben 02-25-2009 07:18 PM

Yeah that works. I could always come by your house tomorrow on my way home from work in the wagon and relieve you of those enkeis so they don't continue to clutter your garage. ;)

I also want to lower my ride height down some and with a little less rake.

Kelly 03-09-2009 10:26 PM

If I built another Miata...thats the exact package I would want to start with.

Yeah we just made it work. But the lamps are a different shape, so it's not 100% perfect.

Thanks :)

I got me a MSM lip and TDR splitter coming. Still need to find the front cover itself. I have a willing painter once I'm ready.
I also have a driver's side MSM lamp now. Need to find a passenger side to go with it, and then I can compare the regular and MSM lamps and see which I like better.

Custom 3" exhaust by Enthuza.
This woke the car up in ways I can't describe. The difference is much more dramatic than I expected. Spool to 12 psi is improved by 600+ rpm. I'm talking 12psi by 29XX rpm according to the tach and my autometer boost gauge. I've never been able to get the xede to datalog.

The car is completely transformed from "OK" to "OMG". First gear is completely worthless for anything but a roll on. This is with 8" wide wheels and warm, summer tires. 2nd and 3rd pull hard. I've got some lean tip in issues to tune out in 4-6, but once it starts to make boost, it takes off. It now pushes me back into the seat. Jason has a G-Meter that I need to borrow.

Very hard to get good pics of, especially in failing light. But enjoy.

samnavy 04-06-2009 08:21 PM

Ben, can you take a picture of the exhaust standing about 20feet back from the car... and tell me how much you paid for it. That is the sexorzz!

18psi 04-07-2009 01:45 AM

that is a gorgeous exhaust. twin cannister makes all the difference imo

wildfire0310 04-07-2009 02:05 AM

looks amazing man. Can't wait to see it in person this weekend when I am back in the area.

Oh and for everyone... car sounds amazing at least over on the phone. pure badass

Doppelgänger 04-07-2009 06:52 AM

Similar to what Corksport has, but Jason's version is much cleaner and far less "bling"...which is a good thing.

I like how that piping is routed... but with the canon brace I have it probably won't work for me :(

miatamania 04-07-2009 09:31 AM

Man that exhaust is pretty.

Sound clips ftw?

Braineack 04-07-2009 09:46 AM

I really dig it. We need a sound clip. I'm sure the double mufflers sound great.

Ben 04-07-2009 08:17 PM

I will let those who are better photographers help me out with some better pics and a clip.

Car is severely traction limited now. It's a much bigger difference than I imagined.

This is all I could find...? This gayness made me LOL.

We can always explore if this will fit with the cannon brace or not.

Stein 04-07-2009 08:44 PM

This is going to be a stupid question, but how or what is done to the rear bumper cover to make a matching formed cutout for the 2nd exhaust. I assume it isn't a new bumper or is it? I've never noticed one that looks to be a hack job.

Ben 04-07-2009 09:08 PM

It cuts easy with a variety of tools.

Doppelgänger 04-07-2009 09:24 PM

Yeah, I had it pictured differently in my head..been awhile since I had seen it. At least they were smart enough to make the pipe about equal length from the Y to each canister. I don't mind the canister style exhausts... but only on one side.

Do you heat it and bend the flange in so that it matches the original one or is it just not that noticeable?

Can I get a "straight on" pic please?

Ben 04-08-2009 10:31 AM

I didn't cut this one, the PO did. But the other car, I did not heat.

I'll have to get my official photographer to help us all out with pics.

Well I should have my camera with me when I come up this weekend. I planning to try and get some photos from Rotornuts build Friday. So at least something better until your official photographer is in the area.

Because the cans are too long for their inlet pipes to be able to bend and fit in. Plus SoCal f-tards like the loop thing; I've seen looped single exit exhausts on CR before.

Also because it it were done before, I wouldn't have wanted it. :fawk:

Ben 04-10-2009 05:34 PM

My official photographer did his best in very limited time and 6 o'clock sunlight to get some more pics. This really seems to be a hard thing to do well.

Went to megameet at DIY Autotune and was lucky enough to weasel my non squirted car onto their new dyno. Their new dyno reads a little bit lower than the old dyno. But just like the old dyno and my old car, spool sucks compared to what actually happens on the street. 11 psi came 400-500 rpm late so my torque curve doesn't have as much area as it should. On the street I'd have 11psi by 3k rpm, but it didn't get 11 until about 3500 on the dyno. But the power numbers are pretty impressive (0% CF).

It was only a 2 pull, quick on, quick off, no datalogging type deal. I'm not complaining since it was only $20, but unfortunately I've got no telemetry to go with the graph. Be advised that the Y axis for torque and power are scaled differently.

Car made 11-12 psi total. A/F was overall pretty good 12:1 but maybe a pinch lean up top @ 12.5:1. I'd like to get it to 11.8:1 or so. All the tuning was done on the street by myself while Bryan (wildfire) drove for me. I've never been able to get Xede to datalog, and it certainly does not do any fuel autotuning. I have not really made any changes to the default spark map. I added a little bit overall (2 degrees if memory serves) because it looked super conservative, but that's it.

Several people got to hear the new exhaust and take rides. People riding in the chase car(s) got to see fireballs I'm told. Sometimes in the pipes, a couple times shooting out. Visible in the daytime no less. Wish we could get that on film!

y8s 04-19-2009 12:28 AM

based on the shape of the last 100 rpm, you would have been at 300 hp by redline.

Maybe so in theory, but with so many potential factors working against me (smallish intercooler, intake mani/tb, lack of tuning, stock ignition), I wouldn't expect the slope to stay constant. I would like to see what's up at 4800 rpm to flatten that tq up.

Tempting. I'm watching you adaptronic people to see how that pans out. I'm really giddy about running parallel and passing OBDII. I'm sure Matt is too, otherwise why deal with the hassle.
I've also been waiting for DIY Autotune to get to the MS solution for the NB... which I assume will be some version of MSII or MSIII, but I don't know if they're planning parallel or standalone. Knowing Jerry, it's probably standalone.

Matt, if you're semi-serious, you can shoot me a price and I'll stick it in my craw and chew on it.

Braineack 04-19-2009 12:20 PM

i wouldnt be complaining with that!
