I love watching those guys. They put on a really good show. First and Last lap chaos is pretty much mandatory in every heat. |

Hopefully I'll be running my first track day there on Feb 15th with a small group of people in the miata. I've been there on other days but never as a driver(The cars were running 1:02s that day.) How long ago did you do that track day?
|
Maybe the Instructor forgot he had to take a poop before the session. The guys entry was a bit earlier at times but overall not horrible for a Noob.I would've reached in the glove box and gave the instructor one of my GF's tampons. The Instructor needs to take some teaching classes.

I think the driver handled it well. But that "instructor" is a dick hole. That would traumatize me, I was actually like convulsing a little while I watched that because it made me so uncomfortable. At least the guy enjoyed the rest of his track day. |

Having said that, I would prefer to drive their car at 20mph around the track for the first lap so I have time to talk about the lines. This is most important at WSIR, where the line is basically impossible to teach unless you can show the student exactly where to place the car - and because if they fuck up the car placement in one corner (turn 9), you're going off in a big way, and someone died there a year ago. My biggest worry when driving a student car is going fast enough so that I don't hold up the ultra-beginner group.
I don't spend an entire session beating on a student's car - I take it for two easy laps, pointing out markers and braking zones and flag stations, and then give them the keys and pray to god they don't kill me. If they refuse, I'll just take them out in my car, but it's usually quieter in theirs. :giggle: Bob |

seemed like maybe he was apexing a little too early on some of those corners, but I dont personally know the track, so idk. But I really didnt see anything in the video that stood out as absurd on the drivers part.

That is exactly how I do it. I like to drive a new student’s car for a couple of laps but it is very slow and I am describing aspects I think are important to know about the track definitely not pushing the car. The group I usually instruct with generally dose it this way for all students. I have had other instructors insist you shouldn’t drive your own car too hard with a student in the passenger seat because it will make the student too aggressive and try to push too hard But I always seem to find the opposite. Show them some fast laps and things start clicking and they start to get it much faster when they can feel what a good line and transitions feels like but I would never do it in a students car unless specifically asked by the student. But I would never do it in a student’s car unless specifically asked by the student and even then only if I am comfortable with what type of car it is.
Bob Speaking of which, are you instructing at the next alfa track day? I want you as my instructor this time. |

Ya at the last Alfa Club day we were both at I had a very non-communicative instructor. Being my first track day I must have been doing something wrong yet he would barely communicate anything to me and I feel like that is why I was so hard on my brakes during my first session. Riding with you showed me a much better line and answered some questions my instructor couldn't answer very clearly and I did much better my second time out but unfortunately it was too late for my brakes.
Speaking of which, are you instructing at the next alfa track day? I want you as my instructor this time. One of my dislikes about instructing at Bremerton is the course layout is so basic it is like a super high speed simple autocross course and a lot of the turns are best taken by the shortest distanc approch. Some students are doing a respectable job fairly quickly and improvements are not so noticeable so you do start to feel like you are just going for a ride and not really helping that much. Seat time behind the wheel is helping those drivers more than anything. Bob |
Well i signed up for the novice school on the 6th. You coming Anton?
|
Wayne and Bbundy. Let me know when you guys plan on running at Pacific some time. I'd love to come join you. Maybe talk Curly into coming up too.
I can't believe what an amazing tool that instructor was. "I'll just lay back and watch this first la-- Don't you know smooth? Your line sucks! Who taught you to drive? The DMV gives people like you a license? Pull over so I can get the hell out before you kill us!" |
This thread has lost focus completely. Therefore I don't care that I'm continuing the B.S.
I'd love a day at Pacific, especially surrounded by MS knowledgeable people, however I'm most likely going to be quitting my job and starting school full time within the next few months, so I don't know if I'll have the $$. Keep me in the loop though. |

NW Alfa is pretty laid back not as many people running 100k plus cars and stuff who are mostly posers as some other clubs. Just guys trying to have fun on the track. Instructors can be quite helpful and many of them have there own styles and tact in communicating. Not all students are the same either. What works with one student may not work so well with the next. I try to do the best I can, sometimes I think I do real well other times I find it difficult. It makes me feel good when the student has fun and I think some things were learned or improved upon. Northwest Alfa Romeo Club :: Track Events Bob |

The instructor in drivers ed said I was a star driver. But I guess he didn't know I failed the learners permit test twice, always on the last question.

Holy shit! I was actually at this track day, and I met the guy who was driving this MS3. Me and him were the only guys who were actually going fast, he did pass me and wayyyy overcooked a turn doing it, but he was seriously a competent driver. My instructor also told me I needed to "tone it way down". Hooked on driving was a fun event, but I'm never making the mistake of doing beginner group again. They act like you've never driven fast before, and I can see why, but I don't think I belong in beginner group if thats how they treat you.

I would have completely been a dick right back to that guy. "You want out? Good, I want you out of my car anyway fuck face."

I'll be going to every pacific event I can this year though. I have a good friend that I dont see enough that lives 10 minutes from the track so you cant beat that. Another thing that is going to get me to more track events is that my buddy and I are almost finished with his Pro3 car so he is going to have to get a truck/trailer that i'll be able to use. This makes me more willing to do track events since my car is going to break every time i'm sure. Woohoo that instructor was a dick! |
I think the guy in the MS3 just had the worst made coach of all time from MTV. All of those coaches flip out, but this guy...

This is David from HOD again - Folks, I had hoped to deal with this internally, but it is what it is, and this lap certainly does NOT reflect any of the HOD culture. I remain very proud of our coaching crew that continually gets high ratings from our customers. Subsequently, the coach from this video is no longer a part of the HOD team. |
Great success!

^ That video was fucking awesome! :bowrofl:

I wasn't about to have a pissing contest and go home without seat time when I live 3 hours from the track, so I let him drive it. That said, this instructor slipped the shit out of my clutch (seriously). Never heard of rev matching? I was not pleased.
I've let one person drive my car on track. A friend and instructor. At Watkins Glen.... he semi ignored my precautions of more power... more brakes, more aggressive suspension... we almost die at the bus stop. 130+ mph spinout almost got me a free Integra Type R.... assuming we would live... which we did. I will never let anyone drive my car... its Mine.... not some race teams car. |
Sorry for bringing this back, but I realized that the driver of the Mazdaspeed 3 in the video posted in the OP has the worst luck of always finding douchebags.
|
Wow! I had to watch that twice, I though that I missed something. My buddy just got me a big ass flashlight used to handle people like that.
|
No way I would've been that calm...
|
He was attempting to keep up with the ultimate driving machine in his plebian MS3. He is therefore evil, a communist, probably perverted, and also actually likes watching the Geico commercials. He therefore should be talked down by some prancing jerk with easaly bruised pride. Go BMW dousche...I mean guy.
Wow. |

Johnwag is the only person I'll let drive it on the track, he's spent enough time under it. |

Not even on his ass, not pushing him or anything of the like. No reason for the guy to get out like that and bum rush the dude like he was going to do something. No fucking way in hell I would have been calm about that. There would have been a fight, and I would have it all on tape to prove who provoked who. |
335 owners, lol.
|
Damn you vash, i was about to post that.
|
that kinda reminds me of the chick they had ride shotgun with me on my lap 2 in autoX she did looked at me kinda funny when i asked her if she would just tell me left or right as a point of reference but got kinda quite when after she pointed me the right direction i would slide into the corner and keep on putting on speed. Lol the poor thing about shit her pants when i pulled into the last straight and popped the car up to 80-85 mph and then stopped right after the lights. I geuss she didnt have confidence in my from my 1st lap where i got totally lost. She did help me drop like 15 secs though :D
|
What a dick! I've never had, or even heard of this kind of experience on the track. Guy should be fired.
|
I would drive way out to the far end of the farthest parking lot and let the guy out of the car there, instead of the pit, to see if his walking style is smooth.
